Any Malta-grinders know about this?

From another thread on twoplustwo:

"I think one is not allowed to play on sites that are based in Malta if one lives in Malta - that's pretty strange, considering how open they are for gambling, but I have seen it on print myself also, when it comes to a couple of sites that are based in Malta."

Betfair and entraction(might be some others too) got their gameserver on Malta.

Not possible to play these networks from Malta?

Another thing.. don't you need to get a job to be able to stay permanent on Malta? Guess poker is'nt a job since it's tax free

if you account its registered with your foreign address you can play.

Yust residents in malta are not allowed to play.

thats not regarding the gaming law in Malta. the reson its: in Malta registered gaming companys get a refund in income tax, if the company trade its outside Malta. Thats why many companys dont accept maltese players.

You dont need a job in Malta to be resident.

Find something in Paceville, should be the cheapest solution and you will be close to everything!

you can find cheaper apartments than 800e. all depends on what you're looking for, whether its something modern or something cheap and cheerful

ok, cuz I'd like to spend about 1000-1100e max on "existing", without pleasure's
so by that I mean a place + food + internet, water etc.

u think it is possible and it would be a place that I wouldnt be ashamed of bringing a girl there? ;-)

well.. this it how it works..if you are just by yourself in a small apartment, then water and electricity should not come more than 70euro max..the average is around 50 euros for 1 person. of course this is keeping in mind that you take care of what you consume..buying food from a supermarket - you should be covered with 150 euros MAX!! per month for 1 person..dont go eat out if you re on a tight budget cos you ll spend 150 euros on 2 meals..i believe internet would be around 40 euros a month or so, depending on what package you go for..therefore you should budget anything between 600 and 900 euros for an apartment..dont worry - you will be able to get pussy in apartments of 600 - 900 euros...

p.s. ill help you out in finding an apartment...

Im considering moving to malta for a few months.
Can you rent appartments on a month to month basis?
If not; how "short" period can u sign a lease for?

renting an apartment on a month to months basis is possible however it will not be cheap, since this will be considered a short let and the rates will increase drastically. the minimum contract you can rent an apartment for is 6 months. Of course if you will have to leave Malta, then you have a 'force majeure' clause in your contract that will let you get out of the contract, however only if you need to move back home.

Hey mates,

I'm looking for an insight into living in Malta as a poker player thus I'm wondering if there is space for me and my grinding machine (which likes to play NL1k+ SH ) for a week or two.

Maybe a free room in a poker flat, a couch is OK as well. I'll pay my stay of course.
Let me know via pm.

cheerio,

Wally

Any of you guys live on Gozo? I visited Malta last year for a few days and stayed in the St. Juliens area. It was totally awesome. I've been kicking around the idea of just moving to Gozo for like a month at some time in the future and doing some sort of Zen thing out there. I ****ing loved Gozo.

Go to hostelbookers.com and search for St. Juliens. When I visited last year they hooked me up in a pretty decent 3 star hotel for about 30E/night.

Some questions about Malta if anyone has the time. I'm moving there April 1st with my gf, few things on my mind:

1) I'm 30 - are there poker people around in my demographic? I was just there and it seems like everyone I saw around the island was either like retirement age, or 19-20 and doing rounds of shots in Paceville. Nothing wrong with that obv, but are there many guys there like me, ie still like to go out but in a bit more of a chillaxed way?

2) Am I gonna have difficulty getting approved to rent an apartment being that my job is playing poker?

3) Is it possible to get residency without a job and without buying property?

4) Any live Omaha there? 08 ideally, but at least PLO?

Thanks in advance.

4) Portomaso has PLO every now and then, usually when we get 6-9 scandis together and ask for a table, 1-1-2-4€ that is. Also during last Malta Poker Tour there was 1/2, 2/4 and 5/10 waiting lists atleast.

Enjoy your stay here!

1) No idea.. I'm moving there in 2 weeks but tbh most people I've spoken to are under 25. I don't think u should be age specific, where I live atm I hang out with 18-31 year olds and do many different things so I guess what I'm saying is any1 over like 20 isn't too different to a 30 year old.

2) Message matt who posts in this thread. He has been great to me and obviously aware that i'm a poker player given that contact was made on 2+2 and hes found other players appartments. I think as long as you pay a couple of months rent ahead (the more the better) there are 0 issues. From what I understand the real estate market in malta and the system is alot quicker/sane than more.

3) Residency I'm not sure about best to go to the Malta immigration page. But what I will say is it depends what you want it for. If your just trying to stay longer than 3 months without having to leave/come back in (and your from EU) I believe you can just get an extension pretty easily by visiting embassy etc. might help.http://www.gov.mt/servicecluster.asp?s=39&l=2

1) I am in my thirties but I don't really socialize with other poker players here in Malta so I don't know how many "old guys" live here.

2) I did not have a problem. You can always just tell them you work in iGaming. Nobody's going to check that.

3) I am a EU citizen and just moved here. Nobody cared for any papers.
