Sup, I play nl1k-20k on some networks, now planning to move to Malta (never been), have more $ in poker accounts that I would like so the plan is to cashout some, is it fine to cashout there like 6 fig if I get to open a bank account or do you guys recomend some off shore accounts? I do have N26 and all online wallets. But mostly just rather cashout to banks etc, have clean bank accounts with some $ in my country but as being an employed etc, my home country doesnt have taxes on poker/gambling but if I cashed out more than 10k there could be some issues since I dont declare any etc. What are current thoughts in Malta vs/or other tax free countries? Are there better options for who isnt that much into partying but grind a good amount, chill, do some exercise and eat healthy? How does really taxes work there and what would I have to do to make Malta my residence? Also what are the best cities to live? Really appreciate any answers/thoughts
Thanks guy, glgl

Dont really have much plans, Malta seems solid and I might stay there for a while. Mostly wanna make sure I' m resident in a country that doesnt have taxes or so, or no issues to cashout 6 figs to banks etc. What would I have to do exactly to change my residence to there legally?

On the interwebs you can find tons of info about residency reqs. It depends a lot on where you are from. As for your repeated statements that Malta has no taxes this is very incorrect and you might want to do more research on that to get an idea about the legal and actual situation

I see, thanks, I guess my priority is to not have any taxes on all the $ I have online so I guess I should see other option as Austria/UK to move to? Malta was my first option because seems nice to live in and all sites are pretty much available there, Im not a big fan of UK and no clue about Austria, are there any other countries u would recommend?

Hey, i've actually been in a similar spot. I asked a tax consulting company here to make a official request for an Internal Revenue Service, if the poker income is getting taxed.

The answer was, if you play professionally so YES and you have to pay even if you send money to offshore bank accounts.

Opening a bank account here is very very hard not just for poker players. As soon as you mention poker, you will be definitely declined as a customer.

After everything, i went to UK where its tax free and much less trouble. Although opening a bank account as poker player won't be easy..

And regarding UK, after Brexit things might change in the future and residency might get much for difficult. From what i Europeans will be allowed to stay in UK up to the end of 2020 without any special permits.

How do people usually cashout in UK? Do you just do wire to your bank account in UK from the poker sites? Or getting bank transfer from other people after you send poker chips on the poker sites?

I m asking because I am interested in moving into Ireland, which I think is similar to UK about taxes on gambling.

I did direct transfers from poker sites to the UK Bank accounts. Barclays didn't ask any questions, Lloyds used to call and ask where the money comes from. 2015 Poker was ok.

I dunno much about bank transfer from other people, but could imagine questions by large amounts. Explanation you were sending them chips on the poker site could lead to money laundry investigation imo.

But i don't have experience with that, maybe its ok.. i know people do that trading with bitcoins.

Would be also interested to know more about the situation in Ireland.

I did the same, actually I asked 3 different company. The answers are the same, they even asked the IRS about it in the past. If you have regular income/play professionally it is TAXABLE as a normal income (progressive up to 35%). It is a common misconception among poker players that it is tax free in Malta. It is certainly not.

You can try to live under the hood, which works fine as long as it doesn't. Most players take the risk, it is def a personal choice, but don't fool yourself by the advise of random people in an online forum (including me). Ask for a professional advise, especially if the amount is significant (would be hard to recover) and you are risk averse when it comes to taxes.

Opening a bank account in Malta as a poker player is impossible these days. Period.

UK has similar taxation rules, I was told by 2 out of 4 tax adviser that it is taxable even in the UK if you are a professional (it is considered trading). Although I do not know anyone who pay taxes there, and haven't heard of anyone who get caught. So it is a safer bet for sure, but not 100%. Again, ask professionals. Tax adviser is a profession for a reason.

Not sure why I wrote down all these, poker players gonna poker players and won't give a single fk even if their life depends on it.

Also, he seems to assume that the question of taxation only becomes relevant upon withdrawing from a poker site. That is far from obvious and will require professional advice in his current jurisdiction (or whereever he was a resident when winning these 6-figure amounts) as well as his future country of residence (where he intends to remit the funds).

I've talked to a tax adviser in UK and basically was told the same, in his opinion as a professional you need to pay taxes. That's very specific issue though, so don't know how qualified he or they are...

The fact no one've ever had any problems yet, is probably not just a lucky coincidence. Nevertheless would be good to have some official confirmation.

Hello, I am interested in taxes in Malta. Right here it says that you're supposed to pay taxes when you make over 10k a year ( http://yesitmatters.com/resources/ta...ers/tax-rates/ ). However someone above said that it's only when you make 35k+. Can anyone please explain me quickly. I've been doing research for a while and I feel really lost. I have a few questions:
1. If I move from EU country to Malta for 1year, when am I supposed to start paying taxes in Malta?
2. How much (% or €) am I supposed to pay and how am I supposed to do it? (I am a poker player ofc).
3. Am I supposed to set up my own company to be able to officially pay my taxes?
4. If I choose not to pay it and as someone suggested to use international bank like N26 to cashout and pay for stuff, how likely is that Malta or my home country finds out? If I don't pay it in Malta could it backfire in my home country like 3 years later? Or should I not worry too much?

Maybe someone is willing to help me in pm? Would be really helpful
