Timestone, your mate is from one of the EU nations though correct? Cuz it's much different if your from US, Canada, Austrailia, etc.

Contacted the consulate via phone and was told to email lol so I've written a formal email with all the questions, we'll see if someone is competent enough to respond and I'll post the response in here for anyone in similar spot in future.

Thanks everyone for any help past few pages, still welcome to hearing anything related to US guys that hasn't been said.

See some of you soon i guess.

Hey Guys. I am gonna to Malta on April for a couple of months. I am wondering what health insurance you have if at all. Because in our country is quite expensive for long-term. So is there any chance that I can arrange insurance right on Malta for good price or is better do it in "home".

Thank you

many countries say you must have return flight or whatever to discourage illegal immigration- if your from wealthier country like the US you`re far more likely to have no problems at immigration. Also I`d imagine tourists have come who go on the ferry to italy or whatever as well you could always buy one of those online for peace of mind if nothing else. I really doubt Malta immigration would refuse entry to american citizen like that.

Hey shipit2kg, I am also an American living here. You might be able to get around the 90day rule by taking a language class here. They didn't even ask me for my return ticket at the airport. Worst case scenario you have to buy a refundable one-way ticket to London. Also, I would go with andreea@malta-property-agents.com as your real estate agent. I also contacted the guy from Dhalia, but once he found out I was only staying for 90 days he pretty much blew me off. If you have any other questions feel free to add me on skype dsmallidge

shipit2kg, you can give a shout to either https://twitter.com/Irishyank12 as he's american and I think they stayed here for longer than 3 months during end of 2011 and beginning of 2012.

Tell him pfft_fubar sent you asking if he's wondering.

Hope you'll come down and like it here, now the summer is coming so you'll probably see TimStone in Paceville 24/7 in case you need info on that area

dsmallidge, how you like it down here so far, apart from the weather?

Compared to Minnesota in the winter, the weather here is great. I feel way more at home in Malta than I did in Costa Rica or Guatemala.

You can contact any real estate agent and they'll find you a place. Better to get one of the agencies that are recommended here since ppl in this thread had positive experiences with them.

Hotels I don't really know, but basically you can find a property on the same day. Just make sure you tell the agent what you're looking for and book an appointment to check the apts they found for you on the day you arrive.

I contacted Dhalia and found a place basicly first day I arrived and moved in 2 days later. Booked a hotel 2 weeks before coming down here and got 18e/night from a good location.

Moved to Sliema week ago and starting to get settled in. Visited Portomaso Casino once and played one weekly tourney. Are there any people really grinding these live tourneys or cash games on there? Seemed like there was at least some value.

I need to get some kind of desk chair home delivered. Any recommendations? Have been looking that Atrium would be good option. Any others?

Would like to meet some poker players down here. I'm grinding small-mid stakes MTT's, like to drink beer and play ofc (althou I suck at it) So if interested feel free to hit me up on skype: Esukk11

Cheers.

Awesome responses did not expect to get them so fast , more answers i please , i use mone bookers for cashing out in foreign country , its ok in Malta also ? what are cashout fees? Anyone had serious skin problems from sun after moving from (colder / less sun) places? Should i take more clothes with me , i heard they are really expesive there.

Esukk11, blakkman08, I'll be at the Casino Portomaso both thursday and friday playing what they offer there in tournaments, info can be found on their website if you need more info. Can talk later if you will be coming by and we'll have a beer or two.

dsmallidge, I'll bet there is a bit of a difference, I escaped from cold ****ing Sweden over the winter myself.

morc1us, Moneybookers is no problem to use, regarding the sun, this will be hot as **** during the summer and as a fat pale Swede I stay away from it as much as I can, I prefer to sit in the shadow and drink and eat, but when stepping out there is some nice spf to use and you should be ok.

shipit2kg and blakkman08, if your phones are open to use with any carrier then just buy some prepaid sims and put in the phone, if you want a plan that is not a problem either. Otherwise just buy a simple phone with a prepaid card for 50-100 euros or so.

23rd-26th there is a €550 Tourney at Casino Portomaso if any interested and likes MTTs.

Now time for some grind before work.

ofc u can easily use an agent as well but the agent obv doesnt put as much effort into it as if you would search for something a little moar baller. you will find something suitable for sure though. it's offseason so u can go in any hotel u want and easily get a room.

atrium is a good option if you are cheap and don't care about serious backproblems. i had one of their chairs 3 weeks until i throw it away and upgraded to a herman miller. obv not everybody wants to spend 1k on a chair (even though i believe it is a mandatory investment)

there are 2 companies i went to regarding chairs:

1. Finos: absolutely baller stuff pricerange from 600++
2. bsl-lifestyles: these comp provides equipment for most gaming companies iirc. their pricerange was between something like 120 up to 650 for their baller model. i would definitely rather by something here for 200 instead of a 50euro chair at atrium...

and yes, 3. atrium - already said enough :P

for internetprovider u should use melitta, for phone there is GO and Vodaphone while Vodaphone is your best bet bc way moar people using it. They have planes for iphones as well imo. also you should consider always having some MB on your phone as a backup especially if u r some sort of tournament donk. while melitta is stable you might experience difficulties like twice a month so better safe than sorry imo

mb and neteller both easy, no clue about fees. skin probs, well, depends on ur skincolour but if you are pale as a ghost u better hide in teh shadows and take a high SPF. should be allright, never saw any player with real issues besides teh occasional sunburn...

Elections are coming and I do not want to be par of that and hear/see any of the crazy stuff (search Malta elections 2008 on youtube).

How about some friendly dealers choice cash game in Portomaso? 0,5/1 or 1/2...I have been thinking how to escape that, we have some cinema booked for Sunday which should be fine, and casino is other nice option imo...

anyone in?
