Malta Chatter Thread - Page 7

so I'm thinking about moving to malta at the end of the year. how much do you guys spend on rent and other expenses per month? do you all play online poker or are there any juicy casinos around? how is the internet-infrastructure?

You can live VERY comfortable with around €2k a month, the internet is really good. Don't really play that much live but Malta poker tours are running pretty often with lots of fishy cash games as well, lots of italian fish mafia doods coming to play and stuff.

From what i've heard average is around 1900e/month but ofc it depends on which company are you working for.

I'm also gonna send some applications soon and hopefully i'll be there later this summer!

Usually around €1600+ with some kind of bonus system, you can probably get up to like €1900 though but then you would most likely need to have history from another betting company or something. Just don't accept anything below €1600

€1900 is very high and far from average, don't know where you've heard that.

Two guys wrote about it in a finnish poker forum and they both have worked in Malta as customer service representatives. One of them said that the average salary is about 2000e and other one said that it's around 1800e so i made my own conclusion that the average must be around 1900e.

But i mean ofc you know better since you're there atm. Maybe i just shouldn't believe everything i read from teh interwebs

Yeah €1800 is about correct if you count the bonus as well. I know that the smaller companies usually pay a bit more while the bigger ones pay less though.

thnx for the info. so I guess a few mb/s and no download limit is standard? (besides playing online poker, I can't live without downloading some of my favorite tv shows lol)

which would be the best city to look for an apartment? any other things I should consider / any pitfalls that come with moving to malta?

problem with the internet here is that you can download unlimited at night, which obv causes for horrible speeds every now and then

City depends, if youre an animal, go for St Julians, if youre a semi animal who likes to live nice without to many noisy tourists, Sliema

Can anyone recommend a decent cheap hotel (like 50 euros/75 USD a night or so) to stay at on the main island for like 2 weeks? Free wi fi would be a huge bonus. Going to come check out the island and see if it's a place I'd like to move to from the US for a bit and grind.

Used to work as a Customer Support Agent at Betsson but right now I play poker full time. I'm Norwegian, live in Sliema.

You should be able to get more then that if you look. At least 23k, I would never agree to a job for 18k per anno.

I can't remember the exact percentage but the taxes for foreigners working in the gaming industry is pretty low, like 15% or something.

Haha, it's so funny. He smokes almost every day but he still doesn't know how to roll a proper joint! Now that you mention it I have a spare room as well though.
