to OP- I'll be honest its alot easier to save money in thailand if you speak thai. maybe try and find some english teachers who are looking to stay long term and have already been here a while. Jspill has the right idea though, if your on a budget then stay outside of the city center but still a reasonable distance so you dont waste a ton of time going places.

fwiw if I was busto and didn't care about being near to BTS/MRT then I'd probably live near Seacon Square mall
