anybody thats been...would it be tolerable for 3-4 months? some trekking but some stretches of just grinding in kathmandu i suppose

sounds like power outages are ok now, and internet should be ok as long as there is power. IT also sounds like the nightlife is **** and the chances of scoring hotties slim

Nepal is a fantastic country. Everyone should go trekking there at some point in their lives. Additionally, Bardia is an amazing National Park.

When I was there in 2012 power outages occurred every night and internet in the hostels was horrific. I played a bit of 5NL for fun but wouldn't have risked money that I cared about. Nightlife in the hostels was good fun. Don't think there's much in the way of clubs and so on though.

You're all over the map. Sounds like research that should have been done in months, not just days.

I think internet poker is illegal there, so one needs to manage money under the table and be silent about it. It is one possible country to visit and then come back to India (also similarly illegal but as national, but mainly just because of money transfer laws out the country, or depends on region, and 30% tax) or elsewhere in Asia (possibly similar law issues even if it doesn't prevent it) with a fresh visa, depending.

The internet is fine for grinding in nepal. I'm sure some hotels with poorly placed routers can be a problem but the broadband itself is reliable in kathmandu and pokhara. I havent bothered with a sim card yet.

Kathmandu is a dustbowl so its not much of a place to stay more than 2 days.

Pokhara is really nice. both the nepalis and tourists are as friendly as any place ive been. There isnt much going on at night right now, the second busy season is just coming up. A lot of people on tight itineraries are in town 1 night then are off trekking for 15 days, and they arent really looking to hit the bars.

IT is also the cheapest place i've been to. decent rooms for 10 bucks.

i wasnt in Kathmandu long. there are a few casinos - apparently only foreigners can go to them. So if there are poker games its likely all tourists
