Just curious as I've considered emigrating to SEA in the past myself but was worried I'd get lonely and bored after awhile.
you gotta take into consideration that im a weird antisocial bastard that doesnt want friends or to hang out, if you want more from life than playing online all day, bangin a ho for $10-$20, and then watching some movies or tv than you would hate my current life

im slightly bored, but thats because A)i cant "banana" and B) the local tv is so bad that it cant keep me entertained while im playing

but the only time that boredom really becomes a factor is days like yesterday where i was trying to take a break from the ho's and ran bad at poker so i had 8 hours to kill without a damn thing to do

of course this is still far better than going up to the casino in vegas, getting stacked from a cooler/bad beat in the first hour and quitting at 7pm when going to bed at 6 am, and having no life there and not having the option to spend $20 or less for some quality entertainment

i have no clue about making friends as i dont try, i assume you could pretty easily make friends with some locals if you wanna buy them a 50 cent beer or two whenever you go out with them, hell maybe expats to but i dont try with them at all, the few ive met in person have been very nice, but the ones on the forum here........ lets just say they arent to fond of me so in turn im not looking to hang out with them

but as EZyano likes to say, for some reason sitting behind a keyboard brings out the a-hole in a lot of people and if i ran into them at a bar we'd likely have a friendly conversation

i wouldnt say im looking to move on, i absolutely love the location, everything within walking distance is amazing, good food all around (so much better food than what i found in angeles), best nightlife spot in the city is a 3 minute walk, i could stay here forever

i'd still rather be in PI, but there is nothing at all wrong with here

if bananas didnt cause me headaches, i got better sports coverage (ie my hotel having ASN, i asked on the forum for here what cable companies have that channel because the owner here said he would change, but as mentioned they dont like me so i got no response) and the internet was a little more reliable i would be in heaven

o ya and i guess if the power outtages didnt happen as often

the internet has been awful recently, my metfone backup stick works great for playing, but i cant download movies or tv with it, and the wifi for my hotel and the one next door have been ****

basically 75% of the time ive tried to stream a tv show it will work for 15 minutes then the internet will go out so ill have to go to the site to start the show up again, wait 20 minutes for the slow speed to build up, watch another 15 minutes of show have it go out again....... ya a real pain in the ass

because of this and not having ASN i think i might change hotels when my month here ends in a few days, but this hotels location is so perfect it makes it hard to leave

went to the market today, got some of the amazing 12.5 cents a piece waffles again, they are so good you dont even need to add syrup/butter/powdered sugar, they are sweet already

got a rechargeable fan for $11.50, think i overpaid because she originally said $12 and then gave me a 50 cent discount when i paid, but that will help with the power outtages because i may be able to sleep now if it goes out in the morning

also got some weird fruit, dont know the name, its a bunch of golf ball sized reddish/orangeish/greenish/purplish balls that you twist to peel open and it has this white fruit inside, its pretty good

bought way to much, this other guy at hotel had a huge bag and said he paid $4 for it, so i asked for a $2 bag and got one just as big

Cambodia is a relatively new country and there is a lot of topics that are not covered by law. Online poker being one of them. Thus it is not illegal. But it may happen anytime, if and when someone starts to care enough about it.

For instance when I moved here, there were bookmaker-shops spread out in the entire country. Casinos popping up everywhere. All of them being licensed by the government. Then one day at a university meeting the prime minister found out that a lot of students wasted their time and money betting on soccer games. And overnight he banned and closed all bookmaker shops and ruled that only foreigners can enter the casinos.

The bookmakershops had paid millions of dollars for a 7 or 9 year long license a year earlier and invested a lot of money in hundreds of shops. They were angry and the prime ministers answer was "you are bad for our country, sue me if you like." They were never paid any compensation, and no real law against them were made either. A decret from the prime minister was enough to close their business. Who said banana republic?

If online gambling gets big in the country something similar may happen. But at the moment the online world is still new to cambodians, and there are no need for legislation.
How does that not answer your question? Wabby has been in Cambodia a long time and there aren't many in the thread who could answer it better.

Also, what made you think this was a thread about poker in Cambodia? This is a thread that only exists so that a socially awkward, break-even player can document which hooker he decided to pick and how worried every situation makes him.

It would be nice if there was a thread about Cambodia though.

change break even to slightly profitable and it would be pretty spot on

but yes lets get this thread back to the good ole days of sitting on page 3 or 4 of the travel forum and getting a few posts a month, that was much better

"Living in Cambodia and turning Pro" does not necessarily mean it will only document the intricacies of poker strategy, or which banks are poker friendly (though Dante has written which bank will open an account, so that was helpful if anyone's interested). It's the story of a person who's playing poker for a living in Cambodia. It seems pretty true to the title.

If K2D decides to run a bar for a living I agree it'd be an inappropriate place for his stories though.

the internet is very serious stuff, in particular threads on message boards, so i can see why ya'll continue to get so upset over this

take a peak on page 24 of this thread and see how many posts were made last october

maybe you didnt notice but ive mentioned a few times where to go to find the best waffles you will ever have for 12 cents a piece, imo that information makes my presence in this thread totally worthwhile

You'd think that he would have written that useful bit of info at some point, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Honestly, even though I was leading the charge for him to start his own thread six weeks ago, I gave up on that a long time ago. At this point, this thread is what it is, K2D's personal journal. That's not going to change, and I'm not trying to make it happen anymore. It's too late.

But in the last week, there have been a couple people who wandered into the thread hoping they might be able to find out about Cambodia. I just thought it would be a good time for me to throw in an immature, "I told you so" because this thread has become exactly what I said it would. I'm not even saying that it is a worthless thread, just that it is no longer a thread about Cambodia that anyone can expect to learn from. It's still entertaining.

As for the argument that people have made about him fitting the title of the thread, I think they are wrong for two reasons. One, you can't call yourself a pro unless you are making more than you spend. And two, I'd hardly call spending all of your time in a hotel room "living".

For some reason K2D seems to think that if a thread falls off the first page, it's not valuable. I personally found value in a less trafficked thread that had higher content/post. I know that what I want doesn't matter, but I do think from time to time, you can expect other people to open this thread for the first time and think "WTF this guy is hilarious" AND/OR "I wish there was somewhere on 2p2 where I could find out about poker in Cambodia". At this point there isn't a Cambodian thread anymore.

You, sir, are a hypocritical douchebag. Before arriving in Cambodia, you peppered all of the SEA threads with as many questions as possible no matter how easily you could have found the answers with a simple google search. You were happy there was a Cambodian thread then. I, on the other hand, am a logical douchebag.

im sorry yank doesnt want those posts in here so i wont be sharing that info any longers since this thread needs to be exactly what yank thinks a message board thread should be and any variations to his definition are no longer allowed

(no seriously though im trying to have sundays be my "off" days because NFL is a good time filler for an off day, but i do have a headache (for third straight day sigh) so may have to go ahead and go out anyways so i can try and not feel like ish during football)

ya thats it, though it looks a lil different than those pictures, but definitely the same thing

one of the good things about the hotel im at is they let me use their refrigerator and kitchen, so i frequently buy food and store it to re-heat later at night when the restaurants are closed

but going into the kitchen can be an adventure in itself since its open air and they leave dirty dishes and food scattered around all night

one time i go in to startle a wild dog who runs right past me out the doorway, that was scary

though it didnt freak me out as much as when i saw a huge rat in there, you would think a big dog that could really do some damage should scare you more than a rat, but for whatever reason the rat has a lasting effect that seems to keep you freaked for 5-10 minutes after, or if it jumps in your bed it keeps you freaked for the rest of the night

anyways, tonight i go in, make loud noises as im approaching, turn the light on and back away so whatever creature may be scavenging can have a clear getaway, coast is clear so i put my pad thai in the microwave (pad thai reheats very well fwiw)

i start looking around at the various sauces and spices they have, not gonna use any just bored and curios, i look down at the ground and see something but am not quite sure what it is, its about the size of a baseball if you were to cut it in half, so i bend down to check it out and its a snail

the biggest snail ive ever seen in the US was maybe the size of a quarter, this thing is like 4 times that

obv i have to go get the girl that works the bar at the night and show it to her to totally freak her out

pretty sure ive already mentioned this but the girl sleeps outside behind the bar on a cot instead of driving home 20 minutes on her motorbike because she says its not safe to go out at midnight alone

she also said the owner will let her sleep in a room for free when one is open but she is afraid that a ghost will get her (not kidding) so she sleeps outside since her brother is out there

everyone knows ghosts cant come around if 2 people are in a room together, and obviously they are a much bigger threat than things like mosquitos or spiders or giant snails

People in this region take ghosts very seriously.

The Thai government used to put warning labels on the cigarette packets featuring ghosts. Not sure what it said, but I imagine it was something like "If you smoke, ghosts will get you".

I was in a remote area of China a few years ago, a girl took me for a day trip to see some farms and such. One guy standing around with his hoe dropped it and ran away. He'd never seen a white person before and thought I was a ghost.

i forgot to quote this earlier, and im not sure if its actually an upgrade or not, but it still pleases me to know that when being thought of as a monkey i am no longer compared to the one that plays with himself all day at the zoo

not sure what pisses me off more:

A) the streaming of the games tonight is just awful (was perfect the first 2 weeks of the season, not sure why the internet has been so crappy all week)

B) the chiefs starting QB is still matt cassell
