I came back to Sihanoukville after a short visit to Kampot to see my family. I'm still apprehensive about bringing them here as it hardly seems to be an appropriate place to bring up a child. I won't lie, the center of town is really rough in terms of traffic and congestion. I didn't want to stay anywhere near that nor did I want anything permanent for now. So pops and I got neighboring bungalows in Otres Village at a place called Mangroves and More. It's roughing it a bit as no air conditioner and there's a public shower. But it's only $8 per night and it keeps us away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I'll look for something more permanent maybe in a couple of weeks. For now, especially being by myself, it's perfectly fine.

We spend most afternoons in the village or at Otres Beach. It's easy to sit in front of the beach and waste the afternoon away. If I really want a massage I'll go into the city a bit early, but I'm sure I'll find a good place out in the village soon. The poker room has a daily freeroll at 4:00 PM but I don't like going in that early. So I'll usually head in around 7:00 PM, grab some dinner and start the game. $1-$2 will usually open first so I'll sit in that until the $2-$5 game opens. Sometimes that won't be until 10:00 PM as the bosses get up very late. If we get out early enough we'll head up to Victory Hill or the Village for drinks.

As for the games they've proven to be very good up to this point. It's still a small sample size obviously but in $2-$5 I'm averaging $68 per hour. Couple that with rakeback and I've had a good week. The $1-$2 game seems to be a lively one as well and $1-$1 really doesn't go anymore as it's really difficult to run both of the smaller games. The other tables are being used for their grand opening tournaments. Not all of them are going as I knew the $100 "high roller" event wouldn't run last night. But most of the $20 to $40 events seem to be going and there have been huge overlays in each one. I'll have more reports later but I just wanted a short summary of my time here thus far.

Cliffs:
- city is rough
- Otres still nice
- Poker makes everything worth it

Is the ocean water at Ortes beach clean enough to swim? Is the construction there dirtying up the beaches or ocean at all?

Hey Triad, how inconvenient would it be to live in kampot and go into Sihanoukville regularly to play? Lived in snooky like 6months 1.5 yrs ago but somehow never went to kampot to check it out. Feel like going back to grind but as has been established previously in the thread snooky is one of the worst human settlements of all time.

That would be really rough. I've thought about it myself but determined it would be completely unrealistic. I considered taking a minivan in the afternoon to Sihanoukville for around $5. That would take about three hours and even if I decided I could repeat it in the evening there is no such transportation at night. As it stands now I spend five days in Sihanoukville and two days in Kampot. I have a bungalow here that I pay $10 a night for. It's very basic and simple but honestly totally worth it as this is the kind of money I could not make anywhere else. The games here are so much better than Phnom Penh and it's not even close. Besides, living in Otres Village isn't so bad. The bungalow is chill and I spend most afternoons at the beach before heading into the poker room. But I'll be honest in saying that the ride in and back is really rough. There is traffic, dust from all the construction projects and generally unsafe conditions from Khmer and Chinese drivers who don't really care whether you live or die. At night it's even worse as everyone insists on driving with their high beams on, not allowing you to see anything on the road like the dozens of pot holes. But once again, totally worth it. It's not even a question or I wouldn't be here.

Just to touch on the game here, in 13 days I'm averaging $48 per hour and that's not even including my rakeback. The other night we had the worst lineup in the $2-$5 game that I had seen thus far and it was still better than any game in Phnom Penh. I can't remember one single big pot but I still won $400. I'll be honest in agreeing that most things in this town right now are rough; getting around, the prices, girls, etc. But once again, the poker here is basically a cure all.

Long time no see, If you dont want to live in a **** hole then live in taiwan, you can rent a house for 150$ a month maybe cheaper, which is cheaper than 8$ a night. so you could probably find cheaper.

There is no cash games here , but they have a really strong tournament lineup here if your into that. This place is really high quality and cheap and is socially better than the usa and that as in crime and safety and cleanliness.

When i went back to Cambodia i smoked weed and ate pizza but i was actually more annoyed about walking in dirt and puddles and stinking **** basically.

Dont go to cambodia unless you like prostitutes and alchol, there are better options in asia specifically taiwan.

Cambodia is basically a province of communist china now. The government does whatever china say, pretty sure they are killing off the government opposition, so its a about to get more rougher there. Khmer rougue anyone?

Based on the whatsapp feed they have a 10/20 running right now, but just had 5/T on two nights the last four weeks or so (also no T/20 +). Also no 5/5 PLO at RK these days just 2/5 PLO, but not every day. Regular game just 1/3NL. Peak low season at the moment though

It's a strange situation at RK atm. There are pretty often bongs in the room that wanna play any bigger game but just not enough regs that join them.
On the opposite Naga has 6 tables (=max) pretty much every day.

The whole running only at night thing at Naga is done. They've been starting early in the afternoon around 1:00 PM the last I heard, pretty much the same time as RK1 which may explain why they're slow. Renton even reported that $2-$5 games were going round the clock on more than a few occasions.

I've seen games get as big as $5-$10 or $10-$20 but according to others that seems to be a rarity at this point.

I am in the middle of a ten day stretch here in Sihanoukville. Everything started out terribly as my first two sessions were losing ones, with one of them being my biggest losing day thus far. But in the last three nights I've won $168, $404 and $544 to bring me back in the black along with rakeback. In regards to the rakeback, I have to admit that I was a bit nervous when it came time for payment as I have been screwed so many times in the past year or so that I have just become used to it. But I have to hand it to the guys at the WM as when the day arrived they put the money in my hand on time and it wasn't a small amount. The rakeback amount for this period should be larger as I am putting in more volume. I haven't played too much $1-$2, but spent most of my time at $2-$5 and I discovered something interesting the other night.

It appears that in the eyes of the Chinese, I am the mark on the table or rather all foreigners. I do not say this to imply that myself or any of the other expats are bad players, but rather that the Chinese seem to thoroughly enjoy winning our money. Even if they are losing overall, they take great joy in the pots they are able to take off of us. This applies to me especially as I admit that I am playing a bit tighter than usual. It's been a while since I have played $2-$5 and let's just say my range has shrunk a bit. So the Chinese at the WM have given me a nickname as they call me "KK". Anyone who knows me from the old Riverking days should find this funny as players there called me "Queens Plus." So maybe I'm not playing tighter and there's just something to this. The Chinese players don't gang up on me or anything like that, in fact they go at each other pretty hard. And the weirder the hand they do it with, the better in their eyes. But they do like a good mix of people on the table so the game will often break when the last foreigner leaves.

So the room is looking to add a few more non-Chinese to the room as the ratio of whites to Chinese is a bit out of whack I suppose. They especially want a better mix in the bigger games as the bosses would like other people to play with. So they've started this insane deal for those who want to play $5-$10, $10-$20 or higher. The deal is somewhat convoluted, but basically when the game ends they are going to take half of the rake collected for that evening and divide that among the players according to the number of hours they played. So if someone plays eight hours and there is $5,000 in the box, they would get a decent chunk of $2,500 for that night alone. This is on top of the fact that they're paying for all transport within Cambodia and if someone plays eight hours for ten days straight, they'll reimburse the player for airfare from wherever they came. And it includes a free stay either in the WM casino or in the hotel across the street, which they also own. I'm fairly confident of them honoring this deal because I got two of my friends to come out from Vegas and they arrived last night/this morning. They arrived at 4:30 AM and there were two hotel rooms waiting for them across the street. I helped them move in and the rooms are insanely nice. I fuc*ing love these guys for coming over by the way. I texted them a couple of nights ago and asked if they wanted to come over, told them about the deal and they were on the next flight the following day and came over 8,000 miles in a 24 hour period to arrive this morning. I was assured that this deal is not limited and is open to anyone. Each player just needs to get a players card set up, which I did for my friends before they arrived.

They crashed pretty hard last night i imagine after the trip so I'm sure they're still asleep. I'll take them for a late lunch/early dinner once they wake up and then head into the poker room. I'm not sure if they're playing $5-$10 or $10-$20 tonight but the room manager told me they were going to play in one of the VIP lounges and showed me the new table they just got for this game. I just wish that I could play this game with them, but I'll have to slum it out with everyone else in the $2-$5 game. For dinner I'll probably take them to the Sokha Beach Resort as it's a toss up between them and the Secret Garden Otres for the best restaurant in town. They have a really good daily dim sum menu that is inexpensive and a nightly all you can eat Brazilian BBQ for $30. I would do that but I probably wouldn't be able to play poker after. I'm settling into a nice routine here, although I did bite it on my bike yesterday. I'm getting used to the travel and traffic and just the general condition of things around here. I was talking to pops the other day about this and the key is just to find those few places that you can escape to every day to keep yourself sane. There are a few great restaurants here still and some nice spots on the beach you can still get away to. And I'm not spending that much money as I am still staying in the $8 bungalow and I take most of my meals for free in the poker room. I wondered at the beginning of all this whether or not this venture would be worth it. Thus far it has proven itself to be and so I'll stay as long as I continue to win, and as long as they keep paying me.

Thanks for the kind words. Everyone is happy and healthy. It's just a bit rough being away from them five days every week. I do video calls with the family about three time every day, but obviously not the same thing.
