So Pops and I took a break from the poker game here in Kampot to grab a drink when we got a blast from the past. Working in one of the girly bars here, a place called Lucky Heng, we ran into a girl who used to work in one of the bars in Sihanoukville. I've included a photo below of the bar in question, although she is not in it. Although next to 4_chainz in the photo is her sister, who he used to take home quite a bit. I decided to conduct a bit of an interview, something I really wish I got on film. But as you can see from the YouTube video it looked like she knew I was filming her so I didn't want to keep rolling. In either case she is currently 23 years old and started when she was only 18 years old. She started out at Air Force bar on street 104 in Phnom Penh but then moved onto a bar that was right next to the bar 4_chainz ran and spent most of her time there until she recently moved it on down to Kampot. I asked her if she goes home or not, to which she replied in the affirmative. She told me that she gets anywhere from $50 to $100 for short time, which does not surprise me since these girls are constantly upselling. If she told me that amount, in reality she'll probably take a bit less. And she admitted that the $100 price is very rare as I'm guessing only the newest of newbies give her that amount.

She went on to tell us that she and her friend plan to open a bar in Kampot. Judging by what I remember of her in Sihanoukville, she'll probably do well. Her aunt is apparently a mamasan in Phnom Penh and can bring girls down for her so that should help. Although she'll probably poison their minds with that $100 nonsense. Anyway I told her that we had many foreign customers in the poker room and that we could help her greatly but that I would want a discount for bringing people on a regular basis. Of course she resisted because getting a discount from a Khmer is like pulling teeth. I'm just going to show up one night with 10 players and say we'll go elsewhere unless she gives us a regular discount. Still, she's a lovely girl and seems to have a smart head on her shoulders so I'm sure she'll do well.

Back in the room now flooring as Pops is playing and the others have gone home already. I'm basically watching over a bunch of drunk and/or high players , which is fine as the game seems to have a very Red Fox vibe, especially late at night. I'm not sure if I'm going to jump back in myself. I'm up a marginal amount but might just sit on the second table and play online until the game closes. The WiFi in this town is surprisingly good so I haven't had too many issues with connectivity. The only thing lacking really are late night food options, although there are a few. During normal business hours, I continue have really good food from a lot of good restaurants. I don't think I've encountered a meal in this town yet over $5. But still I miss Phnom Penh and will probably go back up for a bit this weekend to visit my family.

We played until 6:00 AM this morning as a local business man came in drunk and dusted off about $600 in a $50 NL game. The players would have been fine carrying on but I had to call the game at that time as the dealers had been working for 14 hours. So I got home and woke up a few hours later as I promised to meet a friend/player for breakfast. So the Kampot restaurant tour continues as today we went to a place called Cafe Espresso. Tons of great breakfast items at this establishment and like everywhere else not a single thing over $5. I'm secretly hoping that the game doesn't go that long today so that I can get some rest.

Have you had any power cuts in Kampot? Power is out like 6 hours a day here now and my mobile connection is too inconsistent during outages so I'll be leaving Cambodia for awhile.

What's the deal when the power outages? This seems like a new thing. It's not like the population blew up in the last 2 years or anything.

Every once in a blue moon they'll have a 2-5 game but I can't remember the last time they had 5-10.

If you're having issues with hotspotting during power outages try using Cellcard as I never had issue with their networks. And we've had two outages in Kampot in the week I've been here and they both lasted less then twenty minutes.

There is a WhatsApp group but I'm fairly certain you have to go to the room and get added by the staff.

The game ended a bit early today as one of the backpacker bars down the street had a party and some of the players wanted to check it out. But we did have a few players from Phnom Penh in town so they visited the game during some free time from their holiday. I mentioned the other night that a local businessman came in drunk and dusted off about $600. That led to one of the players sitting on a stack of about $750 at one point during the night. Tonight was no different as the Phnom Penh guys bought in deep and proceeded to open with sizes more akin to bigger games. One of them absolutely crushed it and was sitting on about $600 at one point from a $200 buy in.

I had a good night as well after stacking pops in a big hand where I opened with AKo in the cutoff and he called in the big blind. I caught a king on a two club board and he check called my continuation bet. The turn didn't complete the flush but made the board a bit more coordinated. I knew he was on a big draw when he led into me on the turn. I wasn't going anywhere with my hand so I raised him and we got it all in. He showed 9c7c for what turned out to be a flush/straight combo draw. We agreed to run it twice and he bricked both boards. He accused me of being a bit too lose with the raise in the turn but I think that was just something he said in the moment after losing a hand.

As I mentioned it was a bit of an early night as some players were doing the Friday night thing around town. I've met most of the local players now and I do have to say that I really like most, if not all, of them. There are a couple of guys who do take it seriously, but for the most part they're just guys who like to play. It's a smaller game so they're isn't anything free in the room but still no one complains and they don't really ask for much. They just happily pay for and drink their beers all night while playing a little poker. No one is making or losing life changing money here obviously. I'm just happy for the moment to be in a quiet place, with some noise, and around a bunch of people who are basically all out of fu*ks to give about as much as I am.

After closing the room we all went to Lucky Heng Bar to have a few drinks and play some pool. This is the same bar as last night with the 23 year old who wanted to open a bar with her friend. These girls usually don't have the funds to do something like this on their own so they probably have a foreign boyfriend backing them. It doesn't seem to stop at least one of them from going with customers though as said boyfriend is nowhere to be seen. I told her the other night there's nothing worse than a bar with a pretty girl as the owner that everyone knows won't go home. She told me that wouldn't be an issue so giddy up I guess.

I know this post is a bit more blog like and more in the narrative than my posts of late. And I can't even remember the last time I talked about a poker hand in this forum. But I think I'll be doing more of these kind of posts, at least for the foreseeable future. Being down here for a while reminds me a bit of the first time I lived in Sihanoukville when 4_chainz had his bar. At that point I didn't really work for anyone and just talked about my day. No pictures or videos today. Maybe I'll have a nice cheap lunch tomorrow or discover a new bar and have something then.

I knew I jinxed it when I posted the other day that we hardly get power cuts here in Kampot. The game broke at 4:00 AM today, but the last hour was played in near complete darkness. A heavy rain shower started shortly before and led to a power cut. As no one could go anywhere they continued on playing with the staff shining their phone's flashlight onto the table. Once again we had a few players from Phnom Penh throughout the game, the last one being Cardshark. He came by late and closed the game out with his friend, playing the last hour three handed with pops in the dark. The whole thing reminded me of my second go around in Sihanoukville when the Chinese had already arrived and we were getting power cuts every few hours. This is the first major one I've experienced here as the power just flipped back on as I write this at near 7:00 AM. I'm just elated my air conditioner is back on. The head Cambodian backing the room here in Kampot just texted me to say he appreciated my work for the room; not the worst message to receive at 7:00 AM in the morning. I suppose that just about competes my day.

Since Khmer new year games are literally dead in PP. Naga went from 5 tables avg with 2 going till morning to 3 tables on avg with games dying after midnight.
Riverking 1/3 game doesn't even run the hole promotion time at some days.
I even saw a RK dealer now working in sihanoukville.

But from what I heard the table quality at naga got better. Seems some regs left.
And Riverking has an insane super deep 2/5 PLO that is running lots of hours each day.

I just got home as the game ended at 4:00 AM today. I had a fairly decent day on the table as I stacked one of the locals that is not all that liked, to say the least. One of my favorite stories regarding this player is that he used to invite players over to his house once in a while for dinner when we all lived in Sihanoukville. He would have his wife cook a nice dinner and then have her deal in a small cash game after. For all this he would ask everyone to pay $10 for the evening. Suffice it to say these outings became less and less popular over time, but I had the fortune of going to the very last one. There were only three of us who showed up and so there wasn't even a game. But that didn't stop him from asking each of us for the money when the dinner was over. Anyway, I stacked him when I raised UTG with AhQh and he was the only caller. I got a 2-heart board and c-bet to which he called. The turn brought a super coordinated heart to which I over bet the pot and he pushed all in and I insta-called. I offered to run it twice but he had a straight without a heart and was drawing dead. One of the owners kept tapping my knee under the table he was so happy that I stacked him.

It was a lively game as usual, as evidenced by the YouTube clip I included below. A pleasant surprise during the game was that floxhy, who had asked for directions to the club in a previous post, actually showed up to the game. The request for directions was actually his very post on the forum and I'm honored that our humble club was the inspiration for not only the post but to come out and play with us. If you're reading this Flo, thanks for coming out and it was a lot of fun having you in the game. I've been pleasantly surprised by how many friends and players from Phnom Penh and beyond have come down to visit. I had a friend text me today from Phnom Penh who was trying to decide whether to come here or Sihanoukville. As his parents were visiting him and would accompany him on this trip, I thought they would prefer this town over what Sihanoukville had become. Other players and friends have said they would come for a visit so hopefully we'll see a lot more over the next few weeks.

It's 5:50 AM now so I'll probably head to sleep. I'll probably head down to a new restaurant tomorrow for lunch. There are still so many places I need to try in my continuing quest for great food for $5 or under. And maybe I won't play so long tomorrow as I have yet to thoroughly check out all the bars here in Kampot. From what I've seen it's nothing like Phnom Penh of course. But there does seem to be enough talent around and I've seen girls go home with customers. Anyway we'll see how tomorrow goes.
