I came here for that which is different and an unfamiliar language being spoken seems a big part of that.
I don't expect them to know English but it obviously makes it easier for communication purposes. Wasn't complaining, just saying the English is better in Phils and most of Thailand which is a positive imo.

Was comparing it to Thai/Phils where I am sure it is just as easy to pull off there. + Bonus English so you don't have any sword fighting miscommunication

Almost everyone I know who has stayed here long term has gained weight.
I agree the value for $ of western food here seems a step up from Thai/Phils. Cheaper and bigger portion sizes here which could explain your anecdote. How many college kids put on the freshman 15 eating cheap cafeteria food?

I prefer quality>quantity though even if I lose some value for $. I do my best to stay in shape with minimal exercising and way too much alcohol but was also taught to clear my plate growing up. Takes some discipline to leave half the food on the plate + I feel some guilt wasting food when there are plenty of less fortunate people around.

And at the end of the day this is a poker forum and it's presence here looms large over all other issues.
Yes so should point out that power outages and shoddy wifi can make it difficult for online poker.

Live poker however seems exceptionally soft. Only played in one game for 40 hours or so but I didn't even know poker existed at that level of play. Was only 1 other (short stacking) reg and everyone else wouldnt beat 10nl online. Funny part is the Chinese players would spew off thousands while laughing about it but always made sure to buy "bad beat insurance" getting rekt by the premium. Only negative is 2nd hand lung cancer would def be an issue if grinding everyday though, all of em chain smoke at the table like there's no tomorrow.

*Other reg told me it was the craziest/worst game he had ever seen in years of playing live cash. So don't assume every game here is like that. Just my experience from a very small sample size.

Been following this thread for a couple months as I plan my trip to SE Asia. I'm gonna be landing in PP next week and want to stay at the Comfort Star/River King for a week or so. Would like to set up a reservation for the 28th. Can you send me a PM, Pokertriad?

Thanks!
Mike

You account can't receive PM'S. I'll check availability and book a room for you when I start my shift in a couple of hours. I'll give confirmation here.

Quick question too someone mentioned the girls in Cambodia don't compare to girls in Philippines or Thailand, how true is that?

Never been to Philippines but I prefer girls in Cambodia over Thailand. Girls in Thailand are more mercenary. Don't get me wrong, it's always about the money but in Cambodia at least you don't have to negotiate every detail before you leave the bar. The attitude of Khmer girls reminds me of how Thai girls were 20 years ago.

While I prefer girls in Cambodia, I think the bars are better in Thailand. Hostess bars get boring after a while. Go-go's do too but at least there is more eye candy to look at on stage.

You've got a lot better chance to bang office girls and such in Thailand/PI. Cambodia is just starting to leave the stone age and outside of the bar scene it's a pretty conservative society. Gotta put some work in to close the deal on normal girls and that's more work than most people want.

I really don't like doing the whole comparison thing. This is especially the case since I've been to Thailand only once and really no place else besides Cambodia. I had the same complaints when I first arrived here, but it really does just take some time to get situated and familiar with the nightlife here. I have a friend who used to have this girl come over multiple times and toss his salad for thirty minutes. My own first tossing ever was in this country. There are places you can go where girls will just lick you for 90 minutes; if you're into that type of thing and KTVs where you can bang the girls right in the room. And don't get me started on Cyrcee Secret Bar where I've seen a little too much of my fellow players from the Riverking. Once again, I can't speak of things and places I don't know but I've never really had complaints here when it comes to the girls.

Never happened. We were playing pool and the girl snuck out and thought she could squeeze in one more customer. My friend wasn't going to wait so we left. She got a little greedy there but I sort of admire the work ethic.

I'd say continue to try and grow your online income to $1k+ a month to stretch your savings more and not have to play poker too often.
Also it can be argued that Bangkok has a better live poker scene than PP so don't think that you don't have any options during your stay there.
Just looking over the thread and came across this, guess I didn't notice the first time. From what I've seen the only poker scene in Bangkok is home games? Trustworthy or dangerous? I'll check through the Thailand thread but almost everything I've seen from there is online grinders, and the live community in PP seems more homely and welcoming as well. Anyway, any one with more information on South's claim, shoot!

So I'll be landing in PP around 1130am local time on the 28th and staying at the Comfort Star 2. I read somewhere that you guys provide a free shuttle from the airport. If that is the case I'd like to set that up, otherwise I'll just get a cab myself.

If I do end up arranging my own transport from the airport, which would be easier to get to: the hotel or the poker room? Thanks in advance!

Ya, the home games are illegal in Bangkok but they've been running for awhile but you never know I guess.
Normal rake of a 50-100bt game is capped at 500 and RK is capped at 3bb I believe so the RK rake is better. I would guess that the average RK reg is of a higher caliber than Bangkok though depending on the room.
I wouldn't call either place a big destination to go grind live for a living so really you should just pick which city sounds more interesting to you and base your decision on that and know that comparable games are available in each but the ideal way is to spend time in each city. They each have their pros and cons and are so close to each other it's not a big deal to hop back and forth.

I got proper drunk with the Koreans last night. One of the "hyungs" wanted to meet my girlfriend so a group of us went to dinner, although the food was just a precursor to the bottles of soju we ordered. The hyung wanted to continue on as a boys night out, to which my girlfriend was very understanding, so the rest of us soldiered on to the Riverside where we took an upstairs lounge at a bar and invited seven girls to party with us. We ordered round after round of shots of tequila as my hyung wanted to get all the girls completely ****ed up. It seemed to have worked as we did just about everything but fu*k. I'll say it again that I'm a faithful boyfriend but that's becoming an increasingly difficult proposition. Please forgive the quality of the video as the bar was really dark and I was drunk as fu*k all.
