I came here for that which is different and an unfamiliar language being spoken seems a big part of that.
I don't expect them to know English but it obviously makes it easier for communication purposes. Wasn't complaining, just saying the English is better in Phils and most of Thailand which is a positive imo.

And I've been part of three and four ways that would put anything I ever did in the States to shame.
Was comparing it to Thai/Phils where I am sure it is just as easy to pull off there. + Bonus English so you don't have any sword fighting miscommunication

Almost everyone I know who has stayed here long term has gained weight.
I agree the value for $ of western food here seems a step up from Thai/Phils. Cheaper and bigger portion sizes here which could explain your anecdote. How many college kids put on the freshman 15 eating cheap cafeteria food?
I prefer quality>quantity though even if I lose some value for $. I do my best to stay in shape with minimal exercising and way too much alcohol but was also taught to clear my plate growing up. Takes some discipline to leave half the food on the plate + I feel some guilt wasting food when there are plenty of less fortunate people around.

And at the end of the day this is a poker forum and it's presence here looms large over all other issues.
Yes so should point out that power outages and shoddy wifi can make it difficult for online poker.
Live poker however seems exceptionally soft. Only played in one game for 40 hours or so but I didn't even know poker existed at that level of play. Was only 1 other (short stacking) reg and everyone else wouldnt beat 10nl online. Funny part is the Chinese players would spew off thousands while laughing about it but always made sure to buy "bad beat insurance" getting rekt by the premium. Only negative is 2nd hand lung cancer would def be an issue if grinding everyday though, all of em chain smoke at the table like there's no tomorrow.
*Other reg told me it was the craziest/worst game he had ever seen in years of playing live cash. So don't assume every game here is like that. Just my experience from a very small sample size.
