A bit over a year ago I came back to Cambodia from a brief stint in America. I was hanging out in Renton555's bar when a very cute girl asked me to buy her a drink, which I happily obliged. We hung out for a few hours after which I bar fined her and started to take her to a hotel. The entire time I could not shake the feeling that she looked very familiar. On the way to the hotel, she blurted out in the tuk-tuk "I know Avee." I should mention at this point that I had just broken up with my girlfriend of a year and that is who she was referring to. It suddenly dawned on me where I knew this girl from. I quickly pulled out my phone and started to scroll through the pictures that my girlfriend had sent me while I was in the states. I came across a picture that she had sent of her and her younger sister with the latter's best friend; and there she was. Not wanting to deal with the drama of being with someone who knew an ex that I had just broken up with, I decided to swing the tuk-tuk back and just drop her back off at the bar. I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing, but Renton seemed to think that I was and that it just wasn't worth it.

I soon took a trip to Thailand thereafter and when I came back to Phnom Penh I went to Renton's bar to look for her but she had already quit. As I stated previously, that was a bit over a year ago. I'm back on the day shift so after staying a few hours after my shift had ended I decided to meet a player/friend for a drink at Renton's bar. There I saw a cute girl who once again gave me the feeling of familiarity. She had changed her hair, but it was that same girl from a year back. I should mention at this point that I drink for free at Renton's bar so whenever I am there I buy a lot of lady drinks so that his girlfriend can still make some profit. I guess I bought a few too many because I bar fined this girl and took her to one more bar with my friend, at which she promptly threw up. I decided to leave and got a tuk-tuk to go home. Once we got back to my place it was obvious she was never going to make it up the stairs of my apartment. So I called the poker room and asked for a hotel room and managed to get her through the elevator to the second floor. She kept saying that she was sorry that she was so drunk. I'm basically going to let her sleep it off, feed her in the morning at the poker room then probably send her off with $20. Now I'm in the poker room writing this post as I wait for my phone to charge. I'll head back upstairs in a bit to check on her and sleep myself as my shift starts at 11:00 AM. I guess it was never meant to be.

During dinner with one of the players last night I received an interesting text from Renton about the girl I took from his bar last night. Apparently his girlfriend's had remarked to him that I always take the "wrong one." I'm not sure who she considers to be "right" but I'm guessing it's no one I would actually find interesting. We decided to hit the town for some drinks after dinner and started out at the usual spots. While at our third or fourth bar I received a distress signal from one of the new players telling me that some Khmer girls were feeding him drinks in a place where he was the only white guy and that he was worried that he was going to get ripped off or something to that effect. Since I knew his location I asked my friends if we could make a slight detour. He was in an area that often referred to as a night market and while it took us about twenty minutes to locate him, he seemed completely fine and the girls he was in the company of seemed to be no threat at all. I could certainly see though how someone new to the country might get a bit freaked out by the surroundings and the circumstance. He ended up staying with the girls as they all headed up to Pontoon. The rest of us hit up the Rose Bar and I pretty much ended the night there. I got way too drunk to take any girl home and I kind of wanted to take a break after the girl that passed out the night before. This is a picture of her when we first met over a year ago. And as usual a merry time was had by all at Rose Bar.

I just had an interesting exchange with WarMage during which he told me that some of the players at Naga we're commenting or complaining, not sure which, that our Omaha game was quote "bingo." I guess if they don't want a game where the owners and bongs pot every hand and the first thirty minutes are nothing but four way all ins preflop, then by all means they shouldn't play. I just don't understand what some players want.

I found this thread when I was itching for live poker while travelling SE Asia. Since I was in Thailand, I figured why not PP?

I'm staying at the hotel where the riverking poker room is. It's an awesome room, great food and people with great personalities. I haven't had a dull day there but that being said, I have been running bad/playing bad since getting back into live cash. [-960 for the week] All I really know is online tournaments, but I decided to dabble as I did some 1/2 live back home and did well. It's been interesting trying out Omaha. I think it's hilarious someone could complain about massive pots and great action in Omaha. I wish I was rolled for it to play it more.

The room here is very good for SE Asia but the real benefit is in the poker room, the restaurant and the massage/sauna/cold plunge. Elaborating on that, I've been almost everyday to the sauna/cold plunge. [4$ as long as you like in steam/sauna/cold plunge, 6$ you get all that free + a massage!] Great for getting my head straight and feeling relaxed for the day. It also helps when you are out till 4 am and need to cure your inability to keep water down the next day.

Poker triad has been awesome. Really friendly guy and super helpful. He runs the poker room really well! He also has your back if you are an oblivious, paranoid, drunk farang.

Poker Triad and I keep having similar nights. I too almost took home a Cambodian 17 but a Western 16. Then the following night I had went to Red Fox in PP to check out the tournament poker there. The girls are great dealers there too, the room gets super smokey and the games are good albeit a bit ghetto [think home game type room]. I was offered to smoke a little hashish before the game. Pretty cool spot where you can get joints at the bar and smoke. I did pretty well in the Tournament as I felt right at home. I was chip leader most of the time until I lost with AK vs A8. I was down to 2 blinds and played my game and survived till 4th. Cashed $105, putting me at -855 for the week.

After the game and a few drinks I headed to meet up with another Tinder match in PP. I matched with a few bar girls in Thailand but never bothered to meet up. I wasn't sure what her deal was as she was assertive and always wanted to meet at a bar with her friends. I thought perhaps we'd be alone this time but there I was drinking with 4 Cambodian girls having a great time. They kept giving me beer after beer and I was wondering if it was one of the situations where I'd have a large bill at the end I'd be expected to pay. Not that it is a problem if I was aware of the situation and it leading to boom boom. Truth is, I was still stoned from the hash and was being paranoid when these Cambodians just wanted to show me a good time. Thanks Poker Triad for putting me at ease. The vibe from the girl was good and she was pretty hot too. [Think I've heard too many scam stories in Thailand]

We went to Pontoon where the girl and I broke off on our own and proceeded to get even more obliterated. It wasn't long before I realized these Cambodians can drink and I'm drunk as ****. She was too as she was leaning up on the wall. The night when south from there and I found myself paying for a street hooker that I didn't boom boom. [plot twist]

I gotta stop drinking. -EV missing the tournament today at riverking + no boom boom

Anyways...

If you're in SE Asia, come check it out.

I met a local expat at Red Fox who told me about Shinaukville down South. He said the games are soft but the games aren't great. Might hitch a ride down and check it out for a bit.

Is tinder the way to go to meet regular girls or is it full with bargirls/hookers? Could you suggest another app perhaps, I'm in Samui at the moment and struggling to find a girl that isn't a hooker.

Badoo is pretty good but I hate the app. Best success with other travelers and some locals on tinder so far. It depends on the location. The bigger the city the more options. I have been doing this weird thing sometimes when I go out and just talk to women too. Language barrier can be tough depending too but usually it's just little things and if you are patient, it's all good.

That being said those small towns in Thailand have lots of bar girls/pros.

I'll be in Cambodia for a month or two, whenever my visa run out then next place.

Are you in PP?

If you do head down to Sihanoukville, feel free to ask me any more questions about the City as I lived there just short of a year. To rule by the book or to rule by fairness/spirit of the game?

Certain things in poker are very clear cut.

It was a 1-1 Omaha game, hand was checked down on the river. My opponent tabled his hand and I announced "three pair". "Oh, you have a straight" I said and threw my hand into the mucked pile. "Ace high" the dealer clarified, stating that I have misread my opponent's hand as she shipped a $60 pot towards him. I shook my head and my opponent smiled as he threw a $5 chip my way as consolation.

It was a mistake on my part and I conceded the pot to my opponent. I looked over at PT who was watching the game, shrugged my shoulders, and continued the Omaha grind. Everyone in the game, including me, knows that my hand is clearly dead and my opponent profited from my mistake. I have no problem with that.

Not for this case.

It was a 1-2 Hold em' game at Naga. Similar situation. My opponent tabled his hand and I announced I have the winning hand, a pair of 8s over his 77s. As I was about to flip over my cards, it dropped and touched the betting line. I immediately flipped over my cards and my opponent quickly said "Dead hand! Muck it dealer!" The dealer stated that my hand is a fold. As she reached for my cards, I pulled it back and raised a storm. I am not going to stand for this bull****. I literally shouted and screamed for a proper ruling, so much so that three security guards came over to calm the situation down. Me dramatic? Probably.

What made me so angry wasn't about the money ($30 pot size) but more about how my opponent was clearly taking advantage of me. We both knew that I make a genuine error of dropping my cards when I intend to flip the winning hand over. Any other player on the table would have overlooked and conceded the pot to me. Moreover, he was being very rude and aggressive when I explained myself. I stood my ground. I told the staff if they kill my hand, I'll never come back here to play. And I mean it.

The game was stalled for about 15 minutes as the management checked the CCTV footage. What's the final ruling?

The floor ruled in my favor.

And their reasoning is this. I have verbally declared my winning hand and the CCTV showed that I accidentally dropped my cards when I was going to flip it over.

Just to make a statement, I tossed the rest of my table mates a dollar each (besides the mother f***er) before cashing out. It's not about the money. I can always earn it back through other means besides poker. But to be bullied and be taken advantage of, it's a big no-no and I'll kick, scream, fight, do whatever it takes to protect my boundaries.

I later asked the floor manager at RK about the above case. He shared that had the floor ruled strictly by the book, my hand should be dead. In my case, the floor ruled by the spirit and fairness of the game, since I fully intended to table my hand. The floor manager shared a case where he had to rule against a local bong because he tabled his winning hand so forcefully, it went face down over the betting line towards the mucked pile. He didn't have much of a choice and had to declare that his hand is dead.

When in doubt always table your hand, especially in Omaha.

There's no rule book in the world except perhaps some **** house rules in tiny bum**** casinos that say "if you accidentally drop your hand when tabling it, it should be dead". Also killing the bongs hand when he forcefully tables it and it landed face down was a terrible ruling. If the cards can be clearly identified they should be retrieved.

And you have everyone at the table a dollar? Hahahaha. That's hilarious, what is wrong with you? i hope everyone at the table just flipped them to the dealers. Unless you're playing in a game with moto drivers I doubt anyone cares, let alone the guy who missed out.

I'm in Samui right now, slowly making my way over to PP. First going to visit some more beaches here in Thailand. I'm not opposed to chatting with the ladies when out, in fact I'm old school and that's what I've always done, just seems online is the thing to do nowadays.

Language barrier is huge and believe it or not I have only seen one 8 whilst here (only Samui), a cute waitress girl that obviously didn't speak a lick of English. All the other girls are mostly in the 4-6 range with some 7's about as well.

Forget the massage places my God, they look like somebody's nightmare no joke. They'd have to pay me to sleep with most of them, yet they are all out screaming every time somebody drives or walks by. The freelancers/bargirls are equally very average, I haven't given them much thought but the ones I did notice were all average 5-7 range and asking for 2500-3000 baht plus 500 bar fine which is just way too much imo. I'm not that much into the p4p scene anyways, so I can easily walk away.

My plan was actually to find a few nice normal girls, instead of phucking everything that moves, how do you guys manage to get wifed up here in SEA? Perhaps I need to get out more

Should be in PP within a month, could do with a wing man if you're still around we can hit up some clubs mate.

Shocked that Naga made a correct ruling.

Who is this scumbag that called this out? What's your history with him? Can't imagine some random player does this. Did you beat him out of some big pots over the last week or something?

All players have their own preference.

I have a love-hate relationship with the 1-1 PLO game here. Love it when I buy in for $100 and cashed out for $1,000 in an hour. Hate it when I bust 10 buy-ins of $100 in one session. Ok, that's an exaggeration. But it DID happen to a player whom I am quite familiar with.
