Not great in Cambo for that, best for Phils and Thailand, in fact its best for phils really as its not easy communicating with a lot of the thais until you can speak a bit of local lingo.

dont really trust the smaller networks, and will very likely just take my money off them in a couple days anyways

if you can name any you think i should be on ill load one up tomorrow and see if i can deposit

i wasnt expecting much for sihanouk on dateinasia, but i wasnt expecting zero profiles either

ive bit my finger nails all my life, i have instinctively stopped because of how dirty it is over here, how the F do you cut them?

also my electric razor broke on the flight over (????) so i havent shaved in 2 weeks, absolutely no clue how to shave with a normal raise... ok i think i know what ya do but i dunno may never shave again unless i find an electric one somewhere (wishing i had bought in PI could have found at mall for sure)

was hoping to wait a few more days or a week even to smoke but just so bored i had to, walked to like the end of the people area of the beach and hid behind some tree in the dark lookin around the whole time, took 5 hits off a J, meh wasnt horrible wasnt great, first J ive rolled since i believe 4/20 of 2005

i was blessed with an amazing tolerance and even after smokin every day since 2000 and really good stuff everyday since 2003 could still get high off one hit off a bubbler somehow, this got me kinda faded, did the trick though, relaxin on the beach feelin the breeze aint to bad

got some icecream on a brownie after, was meh, ice cream was pretty good brownie not, shoulda asked them to microwave it (they had one), just hersheys syrup on top instead of hot fudge

before i left i was pounding the sweets because i love them and heard they sucked over here, not exaggerating my nightly binging included 3 chocolate chip cookies, 2 chocolate malts, then either snickers ice cream cones/twix ice cream bars (both) or ben & jerrys

umm anyways i realized that if i tried i could survive here for slightly over $400 a month

could comfortably get by on $500 a month

could happy live for $700 a month

not exactly sure what it would cost to live balla for all the thailand thread guys cuz im not sure what apartments are like, but im guessing for $1200 you could have a nice place and do whatever you wanted really, easily $1500

beers on the beach are .50 cents

this may be the most entertaining post ive made yet, so i posted the situation with the girl leaving after round 1 the other night on a different forum, and this is one of the responses i got, quoted exactly i changed nothing, and just want to reiterate these are not my words:

You responded by asking what I'd do if a girl tried to run without the second ****. It reminded me of the technique I used when in non-english speaking places to try to avoid the problem and to get me everything I wanted.

I took a piece of paper and listed down its left side some common phrases, followed by specific sex activities I might want at any given time. (see typical list below). I'd go in a bar, order a drink, and find someone who had pretty good English, my waitress or another waitress, or sometimes the mamasan. I'd offer to buy them a drink if they'd help me translate. I'd tell them the reason I want do it is to find a girl I can make very happy.

For each word I would listen to the translation and spell it out phonetically, so I could repeat the sound aloud, and then read each back to the girl until I really had it right... Making a game of it with my "teacher." During the session, I would give hints that maybe the teacher would know a good student that I can try the words on, or know other phrases that would be helpful, etc.

When the sheet was finished, I had all the phrases I needed to then use the paper as a way to confirm with the girl she would do what I want AND to avoid misinterpretations, or the girl not remembering what she had agreed to, cuz I would make notes with number of times we would do something, or use check marks, and even would write down the agreed upon departure time.

Then, with a potential take home candidate, I would use the paper to show her I am learning her language and the bar game at the same time. The set up would be that the more the girl made me happy, the more I would make the girl happy with a bigger tip. I would have four levels of happy faces and the end of the page, one with sad face for "no happy" which would equal "no money", the next with straight acroos smile for little happy and put one dollar sign next to it, then a bigger smile with two dollars signs, and, finally, a huge smiley face with biggest smile and three dollar symbols with words BIG BIG HAPPY.

When I'd get to the end of the page I'd gauge if the girl understood enough that I wanted to take her home. I would then get commitments to do each of the rings I wanted with specific numbers and departure time agreed.

Typical list..

Hello
How are you?
Are you a happy girl?
Where from?
(and more general chatter followed by....)
You like sex?
We shower together?
I wash you, you wash me (I love this but most Thais not want - so this would help happen)
Boob boom
Make blow job
Eat your pussy
No condom
Anal sex
Two girls ok?
Go home at ... (time)

Using the sheet, if done correctly, can be lots of fun. It teaches you how to say what you want, and eventually you can do the whole arrangement without needing the paper.

Speaking about medical problems, a real common one especially in Cambodia is burning your leg getting on and off motorbikes, especially when drunk. If your leg touches the exhaust it can get burnt pretty bad, which can lead to infection. I saw quite a few girls with big burns on their leg from this.

language barrier very frustrating i cant wait to be locked away in my cave all day and not have to deal with it for a bit

so this goes back to a rant i had in the PI thread, but citibank claims to have no foreign transaction fees and lied to me that i could withdraw money in PI using my american card in US dollars, i told the guy i dont think thats true, and he checked with his manager and the philippino cashiers and came back and said yes you can

so i get over there and no u cant withdraw USD, they charge a 3% hidden fee in the exchange rate, and now to top it all off after checking my statement i got charged with an international fee as well even though they claim to not charge those, and i used citibank ATMs over there that do not charge fees on their end, as i had been told that on a different forum (its true) and confirmed with the head lady inside the bank there

i seriously want to stab those people, i was on my way to charles schwab right after going in there, but since they lied to me i didnt set the account up, if anyone feels like blowing up a building make it the citibank branch on flamingo and maryland in vegas, during business hours please

I think she is trying to sell you the USB modem for 30 dollars. Fixed price. If you don't have one already you need to buy one.

They have a lot of different packages down to 3 dollars a month I think. However keep in mind that internet is outrageously expensive in Cambodia compared to other countries, so you get what you pay for.

The cheap packages has a very low amount of GB included and then you pay 70 dollars for every GB you use extra by accident. Last year I had used too much, and was charged a lot. I had to visit their office and wait there for endless hours around 10 times, until they finally managed to figure out that I was in fact charged for someone elses internet usage.

So I recommend their smallest montly unlimited package...I think its around 25 dollars a month... its working pretty decent...and you don't risk problems later on...plus you can play poker online sitting at the beach sipping coconut shakes

As a side note. When I moved here 5-6 years ago, a 2mb ADSL connection cost 3000+ USD a month. And no, there was no typo there. The entire country had a 100 Mb backbone back then....Back in Europe it was already dificult to find a connection that was only 2mb and it would cost 20-30 dollars a month. So I had to live with a 0,064 Mb line for a year...and pay 100 dollars a month for it. And it went offline several hours a day. So whatever the price and the conditions are now...enjoy it

Edit : I see now that have lowered it to 7 dollars per extra GB...about time... that makes the cheaper packages a better alternative if you only need it for backup.

to be honest i dont even think i need a backup, ive been in cambo since sunday and havent had 1 disconnection, everywhere ive been has got a strong and reliable signal, in the exception of 1 place, the hotel i stayed at last night

funny thing is that hotel from the outside seemed the nicest, but it was the 2nd worst overall ive been in except for the one where the rat jumped in my bed

and the power has not gone out for 3 days now, im thinking they really did get that fixed, nice f'ing timing

might just try it with no backup if the alternative is pay $25 a month, so they dont have the $5 for 5 days USB sticks like they do in PI?

i am quite comp ******ed as ive mentioned before and this question will show, but say it is absolutely pooring down rain, would that affect my being able to use the hotels wifi? what about would it affect the backup internet? only in the worst storms? or any time it rains?

ive always had landlines and have very lil experience with wifi

i moved to a place even closer to the beach today, think its gonna be where i stay for the next couple of months, internet signal been great all day, walk out the open air door of my hotel and its a 200m walk to the ocean right almost to the end of that street justice posted the picture of few pages back

if you are going to play any serious poker, you will need that backup connection. Period.

Of course its a lot better than it used to be, but I still remember a couple of times where I signed up for ten tables of 215 dollar turbo SNGs ...just to see internet go away for one hour...in the middle of the night...and 2k+ down the drain...when it happened twice in a month I gave up on my poker career for good.

Also I had a lot of complaints because I lost connection so frequently that Pokerstars investigators wrote to me and asked me to get better internet. They had checked my history to see if I took advantage of disconnect protection in cash games, but saw that I repeatedly timed out with AA as well. So no foul play at all. But they were tired of receiving so many complaints about me

Its a lot better now, but you WILL experience internet or power failures. It only gets worse as raining season gets worse as well. And you dont want that to happen when you are close to a final table.

The rain itself doesnt really bother the wireless connections, nor wifi or 3G.

However, once the thunderstorms arrive, they will quite often hit a mast from an internet company and the internet may be gone for half a day. They usually hit at night time, and you will probably be sitting there grinding your tournaments. And then you sit there at 4 AM, rain pouring down...and have no idea where to go to.

Also if your hotel experience a power outage, their Wi-fi may go down with it, unless they have a UPS connected. Which only a few places have. The better hotels have nice generators, but the cheaper ones have the manual ones, and internet can be gone for a while until they get the power back up.

Metfone has cheaper options, but you need to have a USB modem....that one will set you back 30 dollars. I think you can even get a "free" subscription where you only pay for usage...which is now only 7 dollars per GB...so you can prepay a card with 10 dollars and then if you only use it in emergency could last several months. Or you could take the cheapest package at 3 dollars a month. It will be slow and you can't watch any porn with it, but it may save your life in a tournament.

Look around at their website before you go again. They will have small brochures as well with these offers. The brochures may only be in khmer, but if you do your homework you may be able to point at what you need.

thanks, very helpful

so..... if the internet company may get hit by lightning, then my backup internet should be from a different company than whatever the place im staying uses right?

i believe my hotel should have a good generator, its one right down close to the beach, not to cheap, and seems pretty competent overall

how many gbs would a day of playing say 16 tourneys over a 6 hour period of time use? any rough guess will do

i really am just so impressed by the internet here though, i wasnt sure if i could stay here for that (ok other reasons also but that was one of the biggest) reason yet its consistently been great, and they also seem to have got the power problem figured out (knock on wood) as it hasnt gone out in 3 days

just tried looking around that site, tbh it might as well be written in khmer im so ******ed with that stuff

heading over to charlies in a bit i know a guy who hangs out there and i think he can help me with this

thanks a lot

Yeah a different company for backup would be very nice. No hotels used to have metfone as its a rather new company, but they are cheaper than anyone else and has proven to have very good internet, so some hotels may use them now as well. If you intend to stay at the current place for a while, then ask them what internet provider they use.

Playing poker uses next to no bandwith. You can probably play 6 hours of 10-tabling poker every day for a month and still use less than 2 Gb total.

Checking email hardly uses any Gb as well.

But as soon as you click that link to a youtube video, listens to internetradio og worst of all watch porn, then the Gb's will get used up pretty fast. Sound, video and big fancy pictures. Thats what you need to avoid when you are on a backup line. Those may use 1 Gb per hour.

Oops...power just went out as I was typing this... and my wi-fi internet with it. I will click on post when its back

ok, im in asia dude, no need for porn anymore

if im on the paid for internet i can just use it for only poker and it would cost next to nothing

i still think there has to be a USB stick like in PI where u pay $5 for 5 days out there somewhere, maybe not exactly that, but something similar

maybe not though

and then the thing the bank gave me that has the banks name and my name and account number and all other stuff isnt "a proper bank statement" so now i have to go by both places tomorrow and get this and then get it scanned again and then send it to them and then wait 24 hours to hear what is wrong the next time so i can go run around again and then send to them and wait another 24 hours to hear what i need to do next

yet partypoker was ok with both

bubbled tourney at charlies tonight, players much more solid this time actually a reasonably tough table particularly for a $20 buy in bar game
