I live in Thailand and almost never eat out. I spend more coming myself but the standard of ingredients at an average priced Thai restaurant kind of grosses me out. Cambodia is much better value food wise. Average western food places are cheaper with better ingredients and I've seen in the stores that olive oil is almost 1/2 the price of Thailand. Too bad it's so ghetto.
Also the dealers at naga are not slow at all. Their math skills leave something to be desired and you need to keep an eye on your pots unfortunately but they are not slow. The new table placement of the room sucks though. Dirty old man tip of the day: sitting in seat 1 or 10 you can't see the tv but you can perv on all the slot girls.

i can cook, but there are so many things i would rather do than stand in the kitchen preparing a good meal

its a lot of work to save a tiny amount of money, and if u keep trying new places u will find plenty of tasty food wherever u live

5/5 plo game runs at riverking nearly every night give the number on the Facebook page a call and ask him what's been running lately, he will also send you a message every time a game is starting when he has your number.

Naga dealers are slow and the floor never makes a final decision, you have to argue between yourself to sort problems out. Locals get put on the wait list automatically and get a phone call telling them the game is starting and their seat gets reserved for 20 mins which is bull****, should be first come first served till the table is full then you start a wait list.

Hi All,

I am visiting Phnom Penh and sticking arond for a couple of weeks and would like to play a bit of poker whilst there. I play NL Hold em

I've read about Naga and Red Fox, but most of the information has been pretty dated. I've also read about it mainly being Omaha at RiverKing?

Can someone please give me info on games played, buyin and times about the cash games and tournaments these places and if there are other places in Phnom Penh to consider for some fishy texas?

Best,
Magger

No. There are virtually no taxes on income unless you work for a bigger organisation.

Hey Guys,

Super informative thread, moving over to Phnom Penh in November for a few years, Im likely working in close vicinity to Nagaworld, and have a few questions:

- Is it worth while bringing with me a lot of US smaller notes, I've heard its a hassle getting smaller bills exchanged, and Atm's spit out 100s, I'm considering bringing a few thousand in 20s, to save the hassle? Is it better to bring 10s and 5s also? even $1s?

- Two of us will be travelling from the US, allowing for 4 bottles of Duty free alcohol, is it cheap to buy western based brands, i.e. Jack Daniels, Johnnie walker, whats the base price of these per bottle? Id hate to have to lug over bottles and it be cheaper/same price.

- Work has the option for me to have a permanent driver, I'm unsure if this will be needed, considering ill be in the center of the city, is it better to just get an allowance for taxis, or is there a fair amount of driving between places?

- Weed looks somewhat super easy to obtain, but I haven't heard anything about Cigars, I'm an avid Cigar smoker, is there any equivalent to a smoke shop in the city for high end cigars?

- Apartment wise, i have a $2k USD monthly budget, looking at this thread this should get me something decent, any suggestions on baller style apartment buildings that are a good fit?

- Beach Wise, is my best option to head down to Sokha Beach Resort Region, thats a 3hr+ drive, hoping that something is closer? Im not adverse to just getting a flight to Thailand for the weekend, considering its a 1hr flight

- Internet wise, Ive read into a few providers but need an idea of whats decent, Id like to play some Dota 2, is this a realistic possibility with connection speeds?

Izzit, Yazzx, K2D, Rehab Fish, your posts have been super helpful, Will buy you guys beers for all the usefull information,

Spiv, as a fellow Australian Im ashamed of you,

Cheers

Hey Jsplit,

Congrats on the move. I've been out of Cambodia for a few months and info shifts quick, but Ill give a shot at a few of these...

Money - It won't hurt to have small bills as getting stuck with 100s out of the machine is a pain at times.

Booze - Im not sure about Jack, but booze is really cheap in Cambo and as a rum drinker, I could find Captain and Bacardi for decent prices.

Taxi - Best to get a small motorcycle or scooter (rent from 60 upwards a month to buying cheaply) to give you the freedom or you can get a tuk-tuk for 3 bucks to most places. If your work gives cash ask for like 15 bucks a day to cover and you will be set (could get a private tuk-tuk all day for that).

Cigars - Yes weed is so easy to find , not sure about cigars, I'm sure they can be found easily.

2k Pad - I cant wait to see the pics of this place. I once spent 650 on a place over the river and it was totally baller, for 2K you can find something special. Here is a link of a serviced apartment website, not sure if they roll as high as you, but probably around 1K for places.

www.suncity.com.kh/

Beach - The Resort you wrote is the best place for the beach. Otres Beach and the island are pretty cool too. If you can fly to TL or other SE beach spots, your not looking bad in the beach department.

Internet - I have no idea what Dota 2 is, but internet sucks in Cambo, but if you pay u can get the tops. When I had the 650 place I paid an extra 100 for the top speed and it was great, only place I would of ever grinded on in cambo as all else has been horrid.

Check out Khmer 440 for more info

Good luck and hope to get back to PP for those beers and a cigar ...

Yah, looking forward to see your apartment ^^ Just to give you an idea, a girl I know recently moved into this house ... $550 per month, 4 bedrooms...

Spoiler:

Don't really have much to add... I'm not sure what "good" internet is like here but there is no way you are playing Dota on any of the three connections I've used so far ^^ Me and Izzit wanted to play WoW Tournament realm whilst we here... but no chance

I was recently told by a friend who has lived here a while that there is like more tuk tuks in Phnom Penh then tourists, he said you should easily be able to rent a tuk tuk for a day for $5 and he has done it many times ^^ (Pretty sure our haggling tactic works here... Just tell them your price and don't budge, easy peasy)

Booze... Not 100% sure but pretty certain you will be able to find decent booze cheaper then back home (way cheaper than UK atleast)

GL ^^

That is a sick house for that price, is it in Snooky?

If you can get a tuk-tuk for 5 a day in PP, Id be pretty impressed. The general fixed rate is 7 from the airport to Number 9 alone, but I'm not a big haggler...

Yeah it's in SNooky... not sure where exactly... Yeah I wasn't too sure on the tuk tuk myself but 2 friends seemed 100% sure ^^

I'll bet a lot of money no one will be able to score a tuk tuk all day in PP for 5 bucks, pain to get a tuk tuk for 3 bucks from riverside to sovanna shopping mall.

Metre taxis are a better deal than a tuk tuk on certain trips costs a buck as soon as you sit in the car but it increases really slowly, plus it's got aircon and you don't get hassled by people while stuck in traffic.

You will be fine with 20$ bills, but 1$ bills are always handy, so a few of those is always great to have (just 20-30 of them would do). Your budget is quite titanic and even at 500$/month, you are balling it already in Cambodia (surprised by that house at 550$ though... quite the sweet deal).

I did not drink Jack or Johnny in Cambodia, but Jameson, which could be found easily at 12-16$ for a 40 ounce bottle.
