Just did my visa run to Cambodia from Vietnam and was going to stay at the Red Fox but the friends I made on the bus ended up going to a new hotel called Number 9. Its on #7c St 258. Got probably the best room I've stayed in under $20 in Vietnam/Cambodia. The place has a Jacuzzi and pretty friendly staff and my room was $15. I'd recommend getting a room that doesn't end in 01-03 because they don't close the jacuzzi and those rooms are right over it. The internet does suck there so if you are planning to grind, might not be the best option. But if you are just doing a visa run and need a nice place to sleep, eat etc this is a good option.

Gonna be in Cambodia on Friday - does anyone else know if Red Fox has decent Internet? I've been checking a lot of hotels on Trip Advisor / Agoda.. will let you know my experiences with the hotels I booked.

The internet was decent enough when it was on (when I got there the power was out

But the place is a dump. I stayed the one night but when I went to take a shower in the morning there was no soap/towels/anything. No A.C. either, just a fan. Kinda like Sheens room in the intro to Apocalypse Now. I went across the street to the Lux the next day which was decent value and moved to the Paris hotel the next night, which was OK,not great,but has some amenities which would appeal to some and was the same price as the Fox.

That said I went back multiple times for beers and weed and meeting people. I just wouldn't stay there personally, or at least I'd make sure to bring all my own toiletries and even then it's still pretty dumpy.

I'd happily stay in a place with bloodstains on the floor if the internet was reliable enough to grind properly on.

Well, will be in Cambodia in <24 hours now.. at airport atm. Room that I booked got upgraded to "suite" - hopefully that is good.. will post more once I get there!

At my hotel finally - it seems pretty decent, and internet is usable. Feeling pretty good about Cambodia so far, but of course haven't seen much of it.

is it possible to rent an officetel or serviced apartment in phonm pehn? i was thinking of doing a poker trip there for like 2 weeks a month and i need reliable internet and AC.

- Had a decent day. Even being a total fish it's still so cheap that it's ridiculous. Can easily live here on $50 a day I think.

- NagaWorld poker scene seems small, checked it out but didn't play (they were playing a tournament, no cash game going). Will probably play a bit on Wednesday.

- Don't get a taxi or tuk-tuk outside of NagaWorld. More expensive and seems shady. Walking even 1 block away makes prices return to normal (common sense really, but thought I would post it here for the total Asia-fish).

- People in Cambodia seem easy to get along with. Like in other Asian countries, they like half-Asians here (both boys and girls, apparently). Waitress at Red Fox had some sort of bet about me still being "handsome" with my hat off, as apparently many foreigners look handsome only with their hats on? I took my hat off and won her a beer from the other waitress. Yay! (I look pretty bad at the moment, not clean shaven, long hair, so I imagine it's easy to do OK with the non-hooker ladies if you're a halfway decent looking younger guy).

- Lots of girls walking around here, and heard from an older German guy that it's $10, $15 max. If you're into that, and not concerned about HIV, seems like a good deal.

- The cheesecake here is bad, and the beef in burgers is low quality. If anyone knows where you can get a decent burger, let me know!

- Weed quality at Red Fox is not good (guy I was with smoked, I didn't). Heard that there is another place owned by an English guy that has better stuff

- Red Fox poker is $1/$2 $20 buy-in.. wtf? Will have to see for myself what this is all about, maybe it was explained to me incorrectly. I did verify that it was $20 and not $200 though. With rake, I can't see it being profitable unless the players are total fish (which may be the case - will have to see..)

- Red Fox I think is cool to hang out at, but food is better across the street at this Norwegian owned place, and roughly the same price.

- River walk along the flags is great - amazingly nice breeze.

Naga world poker starts small,small 1$/2$ game,later on they will change to 2$/5$ game.But due to no max buy inns things can get rough,the biggest pot played there in the 1$/2$ game was a pot of close to 15.000$.........

Its definetly worth playing there,especially when some chinese fish walk by,sit in play 2000$ and stand up laughing after loosing it all within one hour.Made ,the last time i was there easy 1000$ a day.Just play ABC poker.

At the red fox its not the most comfortable place to stay but its very friendly staff and fun to hang out there.

Even these small games,buy inn 20$ was worth playing,people comming in and buying inn for 50$,reload another 50$ and some reloading over 250$.

The tourneys they have are nice when you want to drink a beer and relax.Just for fun.

The same goes for the bars,pretty girls doing all you want,take them pay a 9$ barfine and for the whole night you can pay them max 30$.Still better than down here in europe where you take a girl out for dinner and a drink and if lucky at the end of the evening you can give her a kiss........minimum 200$ poorer.

In general Phnom Penh is a great place to stay,good value for money,nice food,all mixed,european,Asian and Khmer food.Cheap beer,no hangovers and great discos and bars to party

Wanted to get out of my hotel for a bit, so played a bit at Red Fox last night. They were playing a $20 buy-in tournament, live or course so relatively fast, but not too bad. They don't charge rake apparently, and the poker is just a way to get people there to buy drinks. Also apparently they run cash games ($0.10/$0.20 blinds), and I really wanted to try that out as it seemed like it would be fun, but nobody was going for it

Locals seem friendly enough, I'll definitely play there in the future, can't go wrong with no rake and dealt for free (although I assume you tip the dealers if you win).

Went out 5th or 6th in a standard hand, top 3 paid, and was $320 I think in pool. Play seemed reasonable by some, and somewhat unreasonable by others.

Will probably check out Naga later in the week, but gotta get un-Jetlagged and get some work done

i tried all the burger shops, except 'master grill' and i like lucky burger the most and k burger the worst.

the english guy owned place has really nice .. the best i found in asia in two years

Which english place for better quality smoke?

I was thinking about going to Sihanoukville, Cambodia for about 6 months but decided to go to Phuket, Thailand instead. One of the reasons was security. Is it possible to get a nice house near beach with solid internet for a couple months and not being worried about the possible security issues? Anyone having poker house there? Im still thinking about going there for a week or so just to see it, probably during some thai visa run

Anymore recent reports of robberies leaving Nagaworld late at night? I'm headed there next week but would like to stay in the Red Fox area. I live in Thailand and have traveled Asia my whole life including Cambodia. I'm not too worried about overall safety but I can see how leaving a casino@ 3am could be iffy. Anyone been there recently late night? No worries our a little sketchy?

There are a few other places to stay in the immediate vicinity, I think you can even book the paragorn or w/e on agoda, and it's like $20-30 a day give or take for accommodation. I am sure you could find cheaper but it's already pretty cheap so I'm happy with it for the meanwhile. Red Fox might be OK for you, I don't think there is AC but I haven't even used my AC, just need a fan. Also be aware that cheaper places that have AC may not clean it that much meaning you might get a cold or something.

Any 2+2ers around PP at the moment? Arrive on Monday, planning on staying a couple of months and grinding a bit at naga. Staying with non poker playing friends, but would be good to meet some poker players.
