Thanks

Nagaworld is the main casino. There is a nice hotel 10 minutes walking distance from there called 'Macau phnom Penh Hotel and Restaurant, its looks new. Its in the more sleazy part of town with all the $2 massage parlours surrounding it but the internet is super fast [for asia] loads a 10 min youtube video in least than a minute. Or you could try the 'Paddy Rice' easy to get to because all the tuktuk men will know it, its right in the heart of the tourist area, think its slighty more expensive. Agoda should give you a idea of the prices

A goood option, and cheap,is taking a Tigerairways flight to singapore. Will cost you around 150$ max if booked early. From there Air asia will bring you to KualaLumpur and from there to Phnom Penh, all together must be do able around 300$-400$.No visa needed and easy to do.Even spending some time in Manila and playing poker there is a nice "waiste of time.........".

Check Airasia.com for cheap flights throughout SEA. You can fly to Bangkok for about $120 then to PP for another $50. Also, the airport taxes at Macau's airport are less than Hong Kong's so you can often get a better price there.

I'm not too sure what the previous poster was talking about with Manila or Singapore. Wrong direction.

About AirAsia to PP from Bangkok , I booked last week and the cheapest price I found was $140 with taxes . Still cheap compared with Thai Airways .

What about a young kid going to Naga every day and winning. Im talking about for a year straight. You dont think they would kill you for that? I have been to Phnom Penh, it is def safe, but I would be extremely paranoid to lose my life If I was a foreigner grinding the cash games at Naga Word every day for a living. I dont think they would let you do this in Cambodia. What do you guys think???

Heading to Phnom Penh in a week for 3 days (visa run). Anything to make sure to see while I'm there?

Also people were recommending the Red Fox on here awhile back... anyone staying there now? Wondering if they still do the nightly poker game in the bar downstairs where you can also order joints

If not, any other options like that? Any particular area best? Probably only going to Naga World once so not important to me to be near there... would rather be approximate to dining, bars, girls etc.

Redfox had a game 3 days a week when I was there a few months ago. You want to stay somewhere in that area, it's pretty good location

Go to the killing fields and S21 museum.

Anybody know how to contact the Red Fox about availability? Have looked on the googles but the hotmail address I found isn't working anymore.

Do reservations matter? Sounds like there's a ton of hotels in that area... if anyone else has another choice for riverfront I'm interested too

I see a mention for the Paddy Rice a bit above, any others?

Reservations do not matter. There are a dozen comparable economy hotels / guest houses within 1 block radius of the red fox. Red fox is a cool spot, safe, nice staff and the games there are very fun. Also, bananas are available 18 hours / day at the bar.

hey guys,

I need to find a place to stay in asia for like 20-30 days. Currently living in Macau most likley need to leave the city for 30 days and come back. From what I read in this thread phnom penh looks like a cool place.

How many games Nagaworld runs a day? mainly looking to play some 1/2-2/5 NL. Hows the city? Just looking to keep busy. Don't really need to grind live poker but it would be nice. Any hotels or places with kitchens? Any other things that would help me out. I pretty much know nothing about cambodia or getting there. I just know my favorite resturant in vancouver is called phnom penh

can also pm me any interesting info.

Thanks!

I don't know about nightclubs. I was there in September. 1-2 Days is fine for Angkor Wat.
Happy pizza has ganj on it, if you want. You can also purchase that there, $10 USD for lotta quantity, low quality. Never heard of mushroom shakes there.
Took bus from PP to SR, was less than $10, 6 hours, buses run 5+ times/day.

I don't have all the answers, but will give you a few quick impressions of Cambodia. Tourist places, prepared to be harassed by Tuk-Tuk drivers constantly (trying to earn money I guess). Hostels/Hotels are from $3-$100+. I found decent rooms for $20. Dragon Air flys to PP from HK, maybe also from Macau.
Other non-tourist places, are quite poor. I was there for 10 days, bounced around a bit, and goto Macau a few times/month to play poker, and spend the rest of the time in Hong Kong.

Hi Iao,

i know this thyread is a little old but hoping to here from you as im planning a very similar move but to another affordable area (olongopo) of the philipines to have a shot at playing for a living.

Similar to yourself I dont expect to make millions but am confident of at least $1,000 a month profit. Ive been playing 15 hours per week for the past 4 years for yearly small profit in year 1, 30,000 year 2, 18,000 year 3 (but i know why as I tried too many huge buyin tournys trying to win the 1 big tourny - bankroll management was hopeless) and this year so far im 65,000 in front (not 1 losing month and only 2 marginal losing weeks in that time).

granted its been a good year but im confident i can sustain a profitable return and enough to enjoy a similar lifestyle to yourself. I have friends in the philipines I met while living in japan so that is why i choose there. ive never been to cambodia but would like too! im planning to finish up my day job and give it a shot while im still realitively young (30).

Some questions -

which site do you use? and how do you go about withdrawing funds. ie to cambodian bank account or uk account and then wire it to cambodia? Any questions asked at all regarding tax implications?

internet connectivity - also a concern of mine. when you have drop outs has you mobile form of internet been quick to changeover and be back playing and is it reliable? This is my no. 1 concern.

for interest, have you became bored? felt pressured to play? how long do you think you will continue this lifestyle. burnout seems a major reason a lot of player return to a day job?

Hope things are still going well for you?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Ricey23

It would appear to be similar based on the research that I've done. Also just FYI Cambodia has the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Asia. I couldn't find the specific link that I recall reading, but it could be as high as 15% among sex workers.

Quote:
Cambodia’s HIV/AIDS epidemic is spread primarily through heterosexual transmission and revolves largely around the sex trade. HIV transmission occurs mainly in sexual partnerships where one partner has engaged in high-risk behaviors. Women constitute a growing share of people living with HIV/AIDS, comprising an estimated 47 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS in 2003, compared with 37 percent in 1998. This increased proportion of infections among women may reflect declining prevalence rates among males, as well as deaths among males infected in the early years of Cambodia’s epidemic. Significantly, a low prevalence rate in the general population masks far higher prevalence rates in certain sub-populations, such as injecting drug users, people in prostitution, men who have sex with men, karaoke hostesses and beer girls, and mobile and migrant populations.[1]
