How is the speed of the internet there? Reasonable, or super slow?

i'm on damn slow connection in indonesia and can't get it all straight coz the official page does not load...

what do i need when entering cambodia? do i need the photos and copy of the passport? i wonder if i can do the photos at the airport in seam reap

i'm on really tight schedule and don't imagine doing those things if they are for real

Have only crossed overland and you need a passport photo, no copy of passport. Guy I was with didn't have a photo and they charged him $2, sure they will charge however much they think they can get from you. That is overland, don't know how it is at the airport.

I found the wireless connection in the Red fox guest house in Phnom Penh to be very grindable. In sihanoukville guest house, not so much. YMMV

I did fly in from Bangkok and on arrival i was told a photograph isnt necessary for a tourist visa which is valid for one month.Payment of 20$ is required,it takes less than 5 minutes to get it.They didnt ask for any onward ticket or so ever,so you can also leave over land the country.Just fill out the visa papers you are given in the plane and pay at the border.easy

Thanks - that makes me feel somewhat better about the internet situation in Phnom Penh.

hi there. so how many days should u spend in cambodia on a backpacking trip?

10 days enough? was thinkin of siem reap, phom penh and shanoukville.

whats the best way to get there from bkk? get a tourist bus from khao san road?

thx in advance

Depends how much time you have, I always advocate spending a lot of time in each country if possible. Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville can be done in 10 days and is a good trip.

I have never taken a bus from Khao San Road, always from Mo Chit. Have heard a lot of stories of dirt cheap bus tickets followed by backpacks under the bus having things stolen. Have also heard of buses from Khao San to Siem Reap but when you cross the border into Cambodia there is nothing waiting for you on the other side. If you do take a bus from Khao San should only take it to the border, or don't believe the bus is on the other side til you are on it

I took a bus from Mo Chit to poipet and then shared a cab to Siem Reap.

Also, ignore people on the Thai side telling you they are the border attempting to sell you a visa. It baffles me that people fall for this when they have not even passed Thai immigration yet. People get so flustered at borders

Cara Hotel had great internet when I stayed there earlier this year. Was clean and would recommend it. It was like $30 a night. Kind of sad to hear Red Fox is a dump after the posters before you seemed to like it.

Nothing wrong with Red Fox. I don't stay there but it is a chill place. It's a bar in Cambodia that sells food and has poker games. Not really sure what you are expecting? The poker area is a lot nicer than I thought it would be, aside from all the smoke but that is expected.

FYI-I don't know if this is true but I feel like I should share what I know and let people make their own decisions. If something did happen and I didn't post this I would feel guilty. I'll tell you both what I was told second hand and what I know to be fact.

TOLD: I was told that somebody was robbing foreigners outside of Naga World at gun point a few nights in a row. The police were on the look out and saw the person in the act, confronted him and the suspect shot and killed both police officers and escaped

I googled it to confirm

KNOW: According to a newspaper article police confronted somebody around 3am for "gang activity" "near Naga World". The suspect fled on a motorbike. He then pulled over, shot and killed both officers. Escaped

The newspaper does not confirm that this had anything to do with robbing foreigners, or anybody for that matter from the casino, it does not give any information. Nor would I expect that to be in the newspaper, that's not good for tourism.

only article I found: http://www.phnompenhpost.com/index.p...hnom-penh.html

Take it for what you want. I recommend being very cautious leaving Naga past midnight, though I am not sure how you do that, you're in a vulnerable spot. I have had a couple people at the tables tell me of people they know being robbed when leaving, nothing first hand. You're in a country where a thousand dollars is more than a years salary for 1/2 the population, be smart.

do not take a bus from khao san road, got kinda ripped off and there was no bus waiting for me on the other side of the border. had a ridic experience w some guy trying to sell us a visa and telling us we were going to miss the bus if we didnt buy the visa from him RIGHT NOW and then we had to walk 15min to the border.

how are the games at phoi pet? 1/2 and 2/5 going regularly? who'''s playing in them? can't imagine locals have enough for a buyin...

also do they have shoe blackjack?

sorry to hear. Too bad you didn't read my post. Warned everybody against that. I would never take a bus from Khao San to anywhere, that is what bus stations are for.

Heard the game at poipet is not running. It would but there are not players

Going to Cambodia in a few weeks. Where to go - Phnom Penh or Siam Reap? I just want to chill out in hotel, smoke and maybe chill on the internet. Coming in from Hong Kong. Any information appreciated.

If you are just going to stay in your room it will probably not matter where you go SR is boring as hell, so go to PP.

About Flamingo Hotel, I wrote earlier that the internet was really unstable there.. This is not true, it was unstable the first day and after that I played about 8 days with just one short disconnection.

How's the internet connection speed over there and how much it cost you? Maybe will be a lil bit better if compare to malaysia.

Anyway I’m looking for backpackers from Malaysia to travel with me. Got some information regarding VISA from http://www.evisaasia.com/visa-requir...ysia-citizens/ and now looking for partners. so we can assist each other all way long.

I heard the named Brett mentioned somewhere and I met an aussie guy called Brett who was in to poker and who used to have a business elsewhere in Cambo that has now closed. There must be a pretty good chance its the same guy. If so he's a really good guy, he was playing $1 sit'n goes in Battambang when I stayed at his place there lol.
Different Bretts. Although the big Brett helped establish poker at the red fox back in 2005.

Im going to Phnom Penh soon to renew my Thai visa and also check out the casinos.
Is it only one big casino with Poker action there?
I like to play tournaments so if there is anything during a weekend let me know.

Also I'm looking for a good hotel room up to $30-40 for a night.

Thanks
