went to the bank today to check and see if they had any sort of credit/debit card that i could book a flight with so i could pay for my plane tickets to thailand/PI with my play money and not with real money

when i ask the guy he says yes, then before i give him my ID or bank card or anything he tells me that my transfer from my friend back home (meaning a transfer from moneybookers) was on hold because they put my name wrong...... actually all they did was not include my middle name and for some reason this caused the bank to not clear the transfer

had to sign a piece of paper and then they told me to tell moneybookers to include my middle name from now on...... more to how this might be a problem in the future in a minute


so i get the debit card he says i should be able to book flights for free with it, it costs 90 cents a month to have and if you use a non Acleda ATM anywhere in the world there is a $4 charge, their normal ATM card can only use Acleda ATMS so this is a plus, and i can now pay for my whole trip using play money and dont have to carry half my roll in my pocket

someone please correct me if any of this banking stuff im posting is wrong but i believe in theory i wont need to even set up a bank account in thailand or PI i can just do it all via pokersite to moneybookers to cambo bank and withdraw with this card??? the only problem is if something goes wrong and im in PI i dont see how i will ever be able to get it corrected, i never would have known there was a problem with the transfer i just did unless i went to the bank today

And you are right. From my own experience I met A LOT more of these people in Thailand though. When I moved to Cambodia many years ago, they were rare here. Its getting worse though, and I have always expected that I will move elsewhere a few years after the airport get up and running because by then its only a matter of time before SHK will look like pattaya. And that is not a place I would like to raise my kids.

At the moment though, SHK still attracts a lot of nice decent foreigners as well. It IS a nice place if you want it to be. And also I rarely spend time with foreigners here. 90%+ of my social interaction are with the very nice and friendly khmer people I have met here. If you want to hang out with shady people you can find them, but you can also easily avoid them if you want to. That can not be said about all places in SEA.

you have to get a certificate from the police, costs $35, and have at least the 3 month visa

you can transfer from that account to an american account but it is gonna cost you (at a minimum $25 on their end + whatever your US bank will charge, and if its a big transfer it will cost more)

gonna have to ask about the internet banking when i go back, i know with the original account i had it wasnt an option but i think it is for some type of account

i chose acleda because wabby told me the other best option (canadia) charges him $3 a month for the account, acleda only charges you a fraction of the interest you earn for a normal account, or 90 cents a month if you get the debit card account


if you need a quick bank account without the paperwork you can one at OSK bank, you can open an account there with a passport and a business card from a hotel not so sure about your other questions about it though

Because it would still be easier to drop a few vals and wake up in snook doing a single bus journey rather than getting taxi to airport, fly pp then get another taxi to snooky and all the same on the way back. I dont mind an aircon bus if i got a few sleepers to take.

i have seen travel shops around that have pattaya as a destination by bus
