If I'm playing remotely I just use the laptop, which is an HP Envy II. If you do need to purchase a monitor, the most Western style computer shop in town is here:

When you get here let me know. I'll go over with you on Google Maps of where everything is. You'd be surprised how accurate it is for everything in Cambodia. I know some pretty good realtors as well so you shouldn't be wanting for anything.

I have 2 monitors . Didn't want to throw away my 32 ultra wide so my setup now is 4k 30 inch plus 32 ultra wide. Both Dell.

4k in this line of work is worth every penny.

My good friend returned to the country today after a prolonged trip to attend his daughter's wedding in the UK. He was a manager with me at the Riverking and then at Sihanoukville as well. Unfortunately he returns to Kampot tomorrow where most of the expats from Sihanoukville have moved. I may go down with him for a few days. My wife and I took a hotel room tonight and asked her sister to watch the kids so we could have a night to ourselves. She just gave me her blessing on the trip so perhaps I'll take advantage of it.

We all just got back from drinking but earlier at a bar my wife brought out her phone and what did I see but her playing poker online. At first I was horrified but it was just play money as she asked her brother in law to set it up for her. I suppose she was just curious as to what I did. She's railed meet before but never quite did grasp the game. She just gets really excited when I win.

If it's ok with BGP I'll include the Google map location of the places we hang out at sort of as a guide to our favorite places to hang out. I did it once before with some restaurants and it seemed to be ok so I'll continue the practice.

I'm going to be looking for something small, simple, fresh (not dingy), cheap, with a balcony. I was just going to use kmher42 (?) and look at places and/or use the realtors I come across there. I'm a bit too old to be bothered with the hos (lived in Thailand for a decade, and got that out of my system), so don't need a pad to impress the ladies. Just want to grind, spend some time in the lab, poker blah...

But yeah, if can recommend any decent/fair realtors that deal with such basic properties, I'd appreciate it.

PS. Thanks for the computer shop recommendation.

Khmer24 is a great place to start as I found a basic studio a while back for $150 there. Everything worked and it was perfect for what I needed at the time. And the site is littered with agents. You're not going to know all the districts and locations they mention in the ads so use this link:

Phnom Penh District Map

If you have Google maps already installed on your phone it'll open up a map that clearly shows all the various districts.

If someone were a tournament only grinder or at least as a main thing, does Cambodia offer much? I heard the WPT attempt there was a disaster but any hope for a live tourney grinder?

Not much I'm afraid. The WPT attempts were a disaster as some of the organizers told me themselves that the two events were the worst ever in terms of turnout and also their expectations. There does not seem to be any indication from Nagaworld that they desire to hold such events. They have been approached before and have been rebuffed each time. This can certainly change with their new manager, but that remains to be seen. There are various weekly events in the private rooms and the Red Fox, but those are mostly for fun. Although I will say that first prize for the last event I went to at the Fox was over $500. Although it goes 3x per week, certainly not enough for a grinder and if you were able to make a living off it you'd be the first.

Thank you so much. That is so unfortunato.

The Philippines offers tourneys and such but I just can't stand to live there. It's almost as if I'm joking at life trying to live there (I'm big on food and infrastructure namely housing). The females make up for it though.

I wish you the best Triad. You tried to make things happen and they just did not work out for you. Your insight into Cambo and your willingness to help is something that most people cannot or will not offer. Good luck to you brother.

Thanks man, that means a lot. Good luck in the Philippines or wherever you may end up. If anything changes on the tourney front, I'm sure I or some of the other members will post it here.

I'm arriving tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone would like to exchange dollars for euros (I got euros).

Or which money exchange gives the best rate?

Thanks. Are there any districts you'd recommend to keep out of as they are a bit too sketchy? I'd like to be able to come and go at night and feel pretty safe (using common sense of course). Or any districts you'd particularly recommend living in?

Not sure about where you want to stay out of. Every neighborhood has its nice and bad areas. BKK1 is no doubt the Beverly Hills of Phnom Penh. BKK2 and 3 are also nice with prices getting lower the higher in number you go. Russian market is also very nice with a lot of new development and is also cheaper than BKK1. But it's a bit far from everything and the transportation cost will start to rack up. I live in the Daun Penh district which has a little bit of everything. It has a lot of shops, marts and plenty of places to eat. It's near Pontoon Club so it stays busy and safe in the area. It's close to RK1 should you want to play there, but not too far from Naga either and just a $1 Passapp ride to all the bars on the Riverside.

I wanna know if i connect the opennet router to the UPS, when the power crashes would i still be connected to the internet?

I read online that usually internet cables and the normal power cables aren't connected and the ISP cables usually stay online 24/7 but i dunno this is cambodia.

An update on the Visa front. They couldn't process my friend's Visa because his passport is too close to expiring. But they could do it otherwise and it seems legit. It's basically how I got my one year renewal, namely you have to pay more. The base price is $294 for a one year but add about $100+ more if you don't have any documentation. If anyone needs this done let me know or PM me and I'll give you the details.

I thought I would never see the day but it looks like a more than decent $100 NLH game has been going at the Red Fox several night per week. That's good news as not everyone wants to play super stud, follow the queen or Omaha hi low but low only and if no low high wins. I just ran into the owner the other night as well; everyone there is good people. I know Yazzx first stayed there when he moved to Phnom Penh as they have cheap rooms. I really should get out there more. Maybe I'll head out to the tourney tonight as they're sure to have a cash game after.

Thx for the update pt. Do you know what's going on with Poker Ace, is that still running/successful? Have not been since they closed the original RK.
If you want some more good accom near redfox, the Lux right across the street (10ft away from redfox) is a great option, super friendly, good rooms, low cost, super girl friendly, good breakfast, Sun and Moon on the same street is also a good, more upscale option (also girl friendly, but will charge 10/nt extra if you dont book for 2)

Great! So would it be a case of getting the right 1 month visa upon arrival, then getting an easy 6 months extension, then going for the 1 year?

The last I heard was from a friend who played there last week before he left back for home. There seems to be a daily $10-$20 hold'em game which I'm guessing is their shareholder's game. I still talk to one of the managers from time to time and two of their dealers actually live in my building. I would think things will pick up once high season starts up again.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Lux. The wife and I sometimes will take a hotel room for a bit of a break. I'll try there next time.

All visas are one month upon entry. What you want is a business Visa, also sometimes called an ordinary Visa or E Visa. Basically it's the one that's $5 more. You get this for one month and then you get the renewal about 1.5 weeks before it expires. At that point you decide on 6 months or 1 year.
