I'm looking to get a BJ under the table while flopping a straight flush, anyone know where I can do this? I'm willing to pay more rake if there is a place that offers this. But on a serious point, does RK still offer money to those who start up the game in the afternoon? If so, how much and what time do you need to be there? There is little more that I like than free money. All the girly drinks start to add up after awhile.

RK pays 25$ to first 5 plrs before 1pm. Riverking 1 pays 50$ to every plr (but just NLH) that plays from 12 to 4pm.

Today was a good day at work. Not because I won, which I did. And not because we still have a late night game, which we do. The staff surprised me today with a birthday cake and with my wife having surprised me earlier also with a cake and a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 I'm struggling to remember a better birthday than this one. Working long hours together can bring a staff together really close and ours has become like family. I'm not particularly thrilled about turning 44, but everyone did a lot to take the sting out of it.

Thank you. Whats the difference between RK and River King 1? I only know of the RK in the Comfort Star hotel.

I haven't been in Cambodia in 3 years, but if I'd have to make a guess I'd say the original RK owners (from before PT's ex boss took over) started the copycat. Close?

No class bro

River King II has a much better look and river queen may give you the distinction in the market a new room would be looking for.

You basically hit the nail on the head. The local scene is not really big enough to sustain both though so my guess is sooner or later one of them will disappear

People in this thread have been tiptoeing around this Riverking stuff for a while now because

A. it's PT's former place of work and
B. what the new Riverking did is pretty damn ****ty. But it is one of the realities of doing business in Cambodia.

But at the end of the day, if you're playing in Phnom Penh, there is one room that is nicer, has better comps, has better food, has better dealers (cuz they got poached) and has more fish. There is no question whatsoever as to which room is going to eventually die out.

Perhaps the comfort star2 Riverking can revive itself somehow. I don't see it, but who knows.

Thank you for the birthday wishes.

Whether or not both rooms can coexist was a topic much discussed before I left Phnom Penh. It was concluded that both could survive, especially during high season, but that such was not the approach of the new room. The plethora of promotions were obviously designed to put original Riverking out of business. I put Renton555 in charge before I left and he's done an admirable job. But he no longer works there either and it looks like he'll now be coming to Sihanoukville as a shareholder of the Bao Mai room.

I never want to make anyone feel like they have to tip toe about anything. People like cardshark who I see in person on a fairly regular basis know that I talk about Phnom Penh fairly openly. That having been said, I've taken the approach that perhaps not everything should be discussed online. But nonetheless if anyone has any questions about what happened I'll try my best to answer what I can. For the moment I'll just say that the entire experience was excruciatingly trying on the entire staff. But it was not the reason I left my post as General Manager of the original Riverking. It was certainly related but the truth is I would have gone down with the ship had it come to that. I've been up to Phnom Penh fairly regularly in recent weeks and both rooms continue to coexist for the moment. I tend to think that the issue is still very much up in the air. Things turn very quickly here in Cambodia and the issue is by no means settled.

Thanks everyone who added information to this thread recently. It appears not everyone understood the situation going on between RiverKing and RiverKing1 Pub. After searching RK1 Pub, it does appear that their comps are really good.

RIVERKING 1 pub Daily PROMOTIONS:
EARN up to 8,500 usd a month playing poker at Riverking 1 pub!!!
1/3 NLH morning promotion:
-$100 Random Draw
-12:00 noon
-Rake back
-$50 each playing 4 hours
12:00-4:00pm
High Hands
-top 5 high hands will receive $100 each!!
Open - 8:00pm
1/3NLH evening promotion:
-RAKE BACK
-$50 each playing 6 hrs
-4:00pm - 10:00pm
1/1 PLO late night Promotion
-$50 RANDOM DRAW (8PM)
-RAKE BACK
-$30 each playing 4hrs (8PM-12 midnight)

All of this was taken from their FB page. It also says they run a tournament every Wed and Fri which has money added on. I really see no way for another card room to compete with these promotions. RK is located near the Riverside, so maybe their location will really help them.

The original RK had every chance to coexist or even come out ahead of the other room, despite having to compete against the >100% rakeback promos and nicer venue. "Had" being the operative word. Having the social media foundation, reasonable management, an on-site hotel, and a modicum of integrity went a long way. "Went" being the operative word.

Don't get too excited about the RK1 promos, in practice most of these are hard to get because a) the games often do not start at 12pm for lack of players voiding the first promo, b) the NL game almost always breaks before 10pm voiding the second promo, and if it breaks before 8pm it also voids the high hand promo.
Keep in mind both of the RKs are primarily daytime venues. While sometimes games are running late in to the night, in the hours after the sun sets there is usually a lot of dispersion because many players go home / go drinking / nightlife / hookers or playing at Naga which starts at 8pm

This.

The $8,500 number is a complete misnomer as you would have to hit every drawing and high hand to hit that number.

After learning the full details of Renton's removal as General Manager of original Riverking, I have to agree that the past tense is appropriate in describing whatever chance they had at survival. He did everything he could to slowly bring the room back from a losing month to what will most certainly be a profitable one this month. He was already leaving though as he had given notice, but was removed early even after both sides agreed he would stay on until the beginning of the new month. I want everyone to know how much Renton did on behalf of the players to keep everything in the room properly balanced. After all that's the crux of a poker room manager's job, to run a profitable business without taxing the players too much. Ultimately it was resistance to such efforts that won out and led to his demise. No matter who wins out, and it's looking more like it will be RK1, Riverking as I know it is dead.
