A quick heads up to anyone with an ABA account who's used it/planning to use it to buy/trade bitcoin... me and another 2+2 Cambo thread lurker got our accounts closed on the spot without warning.. you get your money back of course but it's still pretty tilting. I emailed them asking them where in the T & C's it says you cant trade BC but ofc got ignored.

The email said something along the lines of 'You cannot trade "The Bitcoin". It just sounds like panicing from them and complete naivety on the subject. Shame.

Just had an epic night out with Yazzx, Cardshark and a whole bunch of other friends and players. We must have gone to about four different bars before we ended up, where else, Rose Bar! Most of the regular girls had already left for home so I ended up drinking with some 20 year old thing that has the most perfect and round...

I left the bar at 4:00 AM and just got home at 5:22 AM so I'll just leave it at that. Now it's time to go downstairs and get in the car for the drive down to Sihanoukville; more updates coming soon. And a shout out to #6 who I most enjoyed singing We Are the World with. I don't understand why Cambodians like that song so much and why it comes on at every girlie bar.

Just a bit of housekeeping before I move onto updates about Sihanoukville. This is Hesh and he was a player in both Phnom Penh rooms, the Riverking and at Naga. He was even staying at our hotel when I discovered that he had conned another player out of a significant chunk of cash. I confronted him about it, at which point he basically 'fessed up about the whole ordeal and so I kicked him out of both the hotel and the Riverking. I quickly gave a call to the manager at Naga to make him aware of the situation and I assume he has made a similar policy decision. Oh and when I kicked him out of the hotel, he ran out on a fairly substantial bill.

What I have just written here is not conjecture, but fact that has been stipulated to by all parties including the victim who I spoke to personally. As stated previously, he's been banned from both rooms but I've been told that he's still in Phnom Penh and there are still small games around here and there. So if anyone sees him steer clear and know that anyone who keeps letting this man play is no friend to the poker community.

Just a heads up for everyone already here and those coming soon. It looks as if they have changed the laws regarding visas. It used to be that you can renew it endlessly as long as you came in on a business visa. Now they are allowing those on a business visa to renew only one time for three months before having to leave the country. Have no fear as the Riverking has you covered. We already have a hookup with someone who can furnish work permits to those wanting to stay longer. If you're a player in the room just contact us via our many channels and we'll get you squared away.

The reason I even bring this up is because this very thing happened to me yesterday. With all that is going on with the second room in Sihanoukville I completely forgot that my visa expires on the 22nd. And with the new rule change I basically had to leave the country. This is why I stayed up all night drinking, got a girl at 4:00 AM, got back by 4:53 AM and was in a car to the Thai border at Koh Kong by 5:13 AM, or something like that. I suppose though one could argue that this was the reason I should not have done any of those things. All in all I was in the car for about 12 hours first going to the border, then waiting to get my new visa processed, and finally head down to Sihanoukville. I didn't get much done last night as I got in around 5:00 PM and was dead tired, but the room is pretty much ready and is just waiting for the custom made tables which are being delivered on the 25th.

I'm busy as hell and I'm running like sh*t the last few days. But I still love my life here and we still have epic nights that make me wish the next morning that the sun didn't exist. March 2nd can't come fast enough.

There's a lot more post-flop play (my weakness) and my limp-reraising strategy (with nut hands) works poorly against the field of players here. Seems that players have wised up to what I had been doing.
Yep, that must be it.

To be fair though, it's pretty clear you never really had a solid grasp of pre-flop play either.

What an original name. Have to admit I'm curious what the perks are. RK already gives you beer and food.

Good to see WM back in the mix

Warmage abandned ship again. Was really enjoying your posts AGAIN man. Stop jumping ship and stay for the course. Anyway, excited for RK sihanoukville, I’ll be in PP by May/June definitely so it’ll be interesting to see how the action in Snooki rivals PP. according to Warmage PP has a lot more regs and Snooky is drowning in chinese koi so time will tell where I should set my sights. PT it’ll be VERY interesting to get your honest opinion on the two since the last time you posted on the poker scene in snooky (before you built the room) you claimed it’d be redundant to seek out poker action in Sihanoukville.

Can we at least get some sort of cliffs/amount on this guy's scam?

Not just for my interest, but for other poker players in other countries that might bump into him or this same scam.

Opinions and thoughts change I suppose. I made a trip down to Sihanoukville a while back at which point I told our owner that there was no point getting involved with Sihanoukville unless we could in some way partner with a Chinese group. Note that we've found that situation it seemed like an ideal circumstance under which to enter the market.

The poker market in Sihanoukville is vastly different than what it used to be and certainly different than Phnom Penh. I use the word different and not better because I think it's market has been vastly misunderstood. Everyone thinks just because the Chinese are there, they can set up shop, open their doors and the players and money will come rolling in. As many poker rooms there are currently, there are just as many that have failed in the last year.

The group that reached out to us to start this venture brought us in for different reasons. They wanted us to marry the two groups, the Chinese and foreigners, something other poker rooms in the beach city have struggled mightily with. The success of the current rooms are a mirage to a great extent and I doubt there is even one room running right now that'll still be here in one year's time. Personally I'm looking forward to the challenge of starting this room. It'll be an opportunity to start from scratch and build the Riverking brand from the ground up with the vision that the owner and I both share. We won't inherit any dead weight from the past nor be saddled with anyone looking to line their own pockets. This will either with to get game and success or...

He goes around showing people a supposed screenshot of his bank account to show how much money he has and claims that he launders money for the Chinese mafia. Both harmless enough claims I suppose given that anyone who's played poker long enough is no stranger to those who make such boastful and dubious claims.

But the scam in particular involved him asking a player for a certain amount of money to buy an offshore company, promising much more in return. He at some point will ask for more money for various reasons and if the mark can't produce it then he sends threatening texts about the Chinese mafia kidnapping him. I'll post his picture once again just in case and remind everyone to steer clear both of him and anyone who associates with him.

I just posted a photo on Facebook of the dealers at Riverking Sihanoukville that I took while we were having dinner. And I just realized that my girlfriend doesn't read English and that I posted a pic of me having dinner with five young girls. Yeah I'll probably hear about that. It's no wonder I haven't heard from her all night.

Anyway we all met in the room for the first time today as the custom tables finally got delivered. The lights were just finished and now all they have to do is put the chairs together and the room will be ready. But of course nothing else is yet as we still have tons to do in terms of marketing and other logistical things. Still I didn't want to put the girls through too much today as most of them drove in from Phnom Penh this morning and afternoon. It's an interesting mix of girls as three are Filipina and two are Khmer. Still everyone seems to be getting along and they seem pretty happy about their housing arrangement.

We should have a fairly busy room on opening day/night as we're sort of cheating by giving away a bunch of free trips in the Phnom Penh room. The floor managers are either bitching at me or thanking me that the room will be less busy for a few days. In either case, it should be an interesting week for both rooms.

Just out of curiosity: why/how did you end up with Filipina dealers in Cambodia?

That's a really good question. It's something that I wasn't even aware of either until recently. When this whole Sihanoukville thing started for us, we had an initial meeting with a group of Chinese and Singaporeans who would eventually become our partners. They were just about to pull out as shareholders in another poker room and after we had dinner, we went there to play a private game of $2-$5 omaha. The owner of the Riverking and I instantly fell in love with the first dealer to come into the box, professionally speaking of course. From then on we both set out to hire her and make her the head dealer in our Sihanoukville room, which she will be come this Friday. She's the first girl on the left in the picture and when we hired her she told us of two friends she had and after having met and auditioned them we hired them as well. So that's pretty much how it went down but it turns out some of these girls have been here as long as two years. The dealing market, both poker and other games, is so saturated in the Philippines that they come here looking for work. And with the boom in the poker scene in Sihanoukville, more started coming. The ones we hired are really great though. They're situated in a four bedroom house that we subsidize and they really go out of their way to be friendly and get along with the Khmer girls. I think this will be a fun bunch to work with.

One more thing about the Filipina girls; they smoke and drink just like the boys. It's kind of weird, but in a fun way. I posted some pics here the night I took them out to Darling Darling with one of our Singaporean partners. I actually couldn't keep up with them as I went home first. They staggered hom only 20 minutes later, but I suppose they technically win.

Poker_triad,

I am currently in Pattaya Thailand. I am curious if you get a 2-5 nlh game going on a daily basis this time of year? Or if not then at some other point of the year?

Also what is the cap on 2-5, the cap on 1-3 and the rake on both? ty

Hi,

No daily 2/5 NLHE in Phnom Penh. Naga World runs daily 1/3$ and 2/5$ is possible but most of the time not enough players are in for that. 2/5$ starts maybe once per week on average.

Riverking only runs 1/3$. Bigger games just in PLO.

But I've heard there is daily 2/5$ NLHE in Sihanoukville but not sure about that.

Cheers

That sucks. I would definitely spend some time there if there was a 2-5 going regularly and the rake was good. Whats the cap and rake on 1-3 and the same question for 2-5 when it goes?

Also, any conformation on the 2-5 in Sihanoukville? Also rake and cap on it? I will go wherever the action leads me

RK is 10% 5+1 (not sure if the +1 was a temporary thing or is permanent now)
Nagaworld is 5% capped at 20 all limits. Yep, IME 2/5 runs very infrequently
