The 1-1 Omaha games in RK has been so juicy that I witnessed players having an altercation with the floor managers over the waiting list. I simply chose to take a tuk-tuk down to Naga casino for their nightly 1-2 NLHE games.

Logged a 2 hour plus session. Up $379. Figured I could have been up at least $500 had I chosen to be less nitty. I tend to play scared when I am deep-stacked (200 BB+). This is a component of my game that I should work on if I want to earn more from the fishes. I noticed that a number of fishes will typically buy in for $500 (250 Big Blinds).

The majority of my winnings in this session came through a fish where I jammed my AA into his KQ (I think) on the turn on a K high board. River bricked and I scooped a healthy pot of $380+. Then I took the rest of his chips when he jammed his flopped pair of Aces into my bottom set of sixes. Easy game.

No other interesting hands to report except for me getting way too nitty when I was sitting with a $500+ stack. For example, I folded my overpair (QQ) to a pot bet of $30 in a multi-way pot on the flop. In hindsight, it was a very bad fold. I should have at least called and then evaluate on the turn/river. In another hand, I folded AQ to a 3-bet of $22 pre-flop. Again, I should have at least called to see a flop. Then check-fold if I had whiffed the flop.

Phnom Penh has been kind to me so far, having had no losing days in poker since I reached here on Tuesday. I hope I don't jinx myself by writing this.

You ignored that one WM!

Coincidentally my last day in town was the first day that WM87 was back in town and I asked him if he was excited for our HU match and he just kind of laughed and shook his head, so I don't think it was ever going down, then I flew out that night.

Mike was joking with me about it. Whether he should wake you up and ask you to come down for our cage match.

It was my first day in town and I did not want to play when I am not in my best condition.

I know the trolls are going to say I chickened out but whatever...

Well I'll be mostly out of this thread for now, but I figured I'd share some photos from Phnom Penh and around. If you get bored it's always nice to be able to rent a scooter for $5 and see whats outside of town. Boring non-sexpat stuff warning!

Stuff going on at all the Wats for the birth of buddha

basketman does what he can

They live in shacks but spend all this money building all these freaking temples 8 feet from each other

Cardshark I love the pics, I wanted to take my daughter to Snooky but like Pataya next time.

I went there a while back with a very High Opinion of the Buddhism religion but ffs they are ripping off the poor and giving to themselves same as all the other Religions, Selling Children etc so ***** Sad.

Eh I don't know enough about anything here to have too strong of an opinion, but it sounds like there is a lot money being dumped into these wats that could be directly going into education/community development programs. But yea poor people wanna buy their way into afterlife/rebirth/nirvana what have you.

A non-poker related post.

There's more to Phnom Penh besides cheap booze, cheap dates & going "Boom Boom" in a cheap motel.

Went for a leisurely walk along Riverside in the morning, followed by half an hour meditation at Wat Langka.

Of course, my pics are not as amazing as cardsharkk04 but it should provide a balanced perspective to what Phnom Penh has to offer to prospective poker players.

Also, when are you heading to BKK Mike? You are due for that vacation!
I'm too shy to hit Soi Cowboy on my own!

Also, belated happy birthday to (former fat ass) renton555!
My plans to go to Thailand seem like a distant memory at this point. The poker room has been slammed as of late so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get away. And this is supposed to be the slow season! It would be nice to go away for a few days, not worry about running the room and just be knee deep in pus*y the whole time. How much longer are you there Matteo?

It's 2:39 AM and I've now been in the room nearly 16 hours due to the other manager asking for a favor because his grandmother is in town. Of course he asked this on what turned out to be a really busy day. I had to juggle the hold'em game, the weekly tourney and then two tables of the Omaha game. We were finally down to three handed about 90 minutes ago in the $1-$1 Omaha game. But then WarMage, the room's bookie and a friend of mine walked in and we have a game again. Players are still reloading so I don't think we're going anywhere anytime soon. Thank God I have a day off tomorrow.

From a $600+ profit to a -$1,100 loss.

Just saw the above happened to a player in the 1-1 Omaha game which just ended this morning. And this becomes an important learning point for all poker players, not just the player in question.

He played quite well in the initial 1-2 hours of the session, peaking at $900+ stack (on a $300 buy-in) at one point. Then he started to make a couple of bad calls, culminating in a pot where he stacked off with the lower end of a straight. Tilted, he reloaded for $300. Dusted that off. Reloaded for another $500. Dusted that off too. I was one of the beneficiaries on his $500 reload, doubling through him with KKQQ. The last guy who took all his chips had AAxx. Easy game.

What would I have done if I were in his position?
1. If I am up over two buy-ins, I would have at least considered cashing in my chips to protect my profits. If I wish to continue playing, then I would choose to stop if say, my profits were cut by half. Some professionals would recommend playing as long as you still think/feel you are playing well. Nothing wrong with that. I say to each his own.
2. If I am tilted or getting tilted, I would choose to stop my session immediately. It definitely doesn't feel good to book losses but the alternatives are far far worse. I would be burning money if I choose to continue playing and make decisions in an emotional state.

I am somewhat satisfied with my performance so far. 6 days in, I am already up over $1K. Of course, I could be doing far better. I shared with my friend who's also here in Cambodia that this trip is already funded unless I deliberately tilt it off or I suffer some crazy bad beats/coolers/downswings.

I knew a guy that lived there and didn't play poker , didn't drink alot and was in a committed relationship and loved it, he was on a disability income and he was able to easily survive on $2600 a month. He was always saying I should come out and stay for a few months see if it was for me. He has since moved back for medical reasons and said he will go back as soon as he gets done with his medical condition.
But he does say the noise takes some getting use to.

I have done my calculations. If a player really nits it up and pays only for accommodation, $200/month is enough in Phnom Penh. But that means walking to the card rooms, only drink and eat at RK (free), no massage, no sightseeing, no boom boom, no (fill in the blanks) etc. I think it's a terrible/miserable lifestyle though.

For me, I can live quite comfortably on $500/month with the occasional splurges on massages, day trips, outside food & drinks etc.

I think I am quite nitty even when it comes to Omaha.

Let me quote what one of the players said about me during the Omaha session yesterday. "Geez, it's the first time I see someone play a $100+ stack for the last 3 hours". Shortly after, he doubled me up.

Just saying that it sounds like a juicy game and you're going to have to put your stack in pre with KKQQ but as you know you can lose plenty of those in a row. Just out of your hands sometimes.

Really? Am pretty sure KKQQ is ahead of most hands, except AAxx.

Are you including the $30ish visa charge p/m? But anyway for free food & drink everyday you would need to be playing at RK almost every day also, no? Who would try to live off $200 p/m while simultaneously playing 300NL/500PLO etc everyday?!
