Guy mucks his card so I'm like ok not sure what happened but I guess the dude just mucked his cards so I just push my cards to the dealer face down without thinking too much.
Dude starts getting angry and mumbles grumbles something about JACK.
I didn't get it straight away but it turns out that the guy thought I said JACK, not CHECK..
It was only a few dollars and I don't like to argue over stupid stuff so I was like "not sure what just happened but I'll just show my cards" : Q-8. Guy took back his cards that I thought he mucked and shows Q-9 and dealers gives him the pot..
I was pretty confused on the spot as it took me a while to understand what had just happened but I was like whatever it's only a few dollars.
After the game someone from the staff comes to me and asks me if I'm angry so I'm like "Uh, not at all" and then she goes on to explain that the pot should have been mine because the player mucked his cards. The then dealer of that hand is sitting next to this person and goes "Yeah, it's true.."
Haha wtf moment? So they all agree that the player mucked, including the dealer of that hand but the dealer still gave the other player the pot oO.
Like I said, I don't really care because it was just a few dollars anyway but I'm more concerned about the dealers logic and consistency in all this. Would I have just got the pot anyway if I mumbled louder than the other guy? is that how it works?
Anyway, the staff on their initiative suddenly and surprisingly said they would pay for my dinner that I had just ordered. While being a nice touch, it also told me that they did realize that they ****ed up and that therefore throwing yr cards face down at this casino is indeed considered mucking (which I always thought was the rule in all places).
Like I said it was a super small pot and I don't care but I hate to think how this kind of mess up could affect big hands - which is what triad explained in a previous post I believe.
First and foremost, my condolences on the hand. Being the day game manager at Lion City, I really wish this had happened during the day because the result would have been different had I been there. I am both sad and sorry to say that for various reasons.
Even with language and accent difficulties, it is the player's responsibility to "hold on to their cards" until the dealer declares a winner. However, ours is (generally speaking) a friendly game and players often announce their hand at showdown (not necessarily in the correct order) thereby allowing others to quietly fold their cards without having to show. I believe a lot of players, particularly the more aged ones, love to not show their cards if they don't have to. But this convenience comes at a price; sometimes a "check" is heard as a "jack" or a "fold" is heard as "four." Which is why it's always best to just table your cards and let them speak for themselves. Cards speak!
Again, my apologies for your experience at the table and I hope to have your continued patience as we work with our dealers to give them more knowledge and experience in what is a new line of work to many of them.
