Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

While I was writing that piece about visas I came up little more info on Jakarta (I'm currently residing here) and there's so little info here that I figured it can't hurt to share some.

WiFi is available virtually everywhere and it's pretty good too.
It's also included in the rent, even in the cheapest kost's (boarding houses) that I live in.
4g is pretty well covered from my experience and even the times you don't get the 4g the 3g is there.

I'm paying 2mil/month (~130€) for a room in a boarding house.
It comes with AC, en-suite bathroom, bed, desk, closet, wifi and shared kitchen. Kitchen got gas cooker and refrigerator with freezer.
Also laundry and cleaning is included. Electricity is excluded.
These kosts are all around the city with various amenities and prices.
Check here if you're interested: http://www.kostjakarta.com/
For time being I'm preferring kosts because you get monthly lease without any hassle or extra cost. I'm renewing my visa soon for 6 months and might still just stay in kost, like many people here do. Locals as well as foreigners.
I can't tell much of the apartment leasing, but you can find furnished apartments with monthly lease as well, they just cost more. Usually preferred lease type is 1y minimum.

Traffic is interesting to say the least. I bought a motorbike almost right away when I came here and it's the best way to get around Jakarta, as well as taking touring trips to countryside and smaller cities around Java.
It's also lot of a mental state how you take the traffic. I myself enjoy traffic, I'm not in a rush and just be prepared to take the time if you have appointment or some place you need to be at exact time. Anyways I'm always flying through the traffic with my Bajaj Pulsar 180cc. You don't want to have big bike in Jakarta. Except for the weekends maybe and touring trips. Big bikes are just too heavy and hot for this climate and traffic.

Dating wise Tinder is the nuts. Its the best thing in Jakarta to meet girls (there is other apps too, but you need to know bahasa). It's so easy to meet nice girls that are DTF and are "normal" girls, although there are pros as well as ladyboys, but mostly normals. Usually pros mention that they're pros in the caption and so does ladyboys.
It's so easy for bule to get laid via Tinder that its retarded. (Bule means white person, but not in a rude way as farang in TL.)
Most of the bules are situated in the South Jakarta and that area is a bit spoiled by them but not that badly as other parts of SE-Asia, and even if you exclude South you still have a **** ton of city left.
I currently live in the West side and there's mostly chinese-indonesian here. No bules.

Language barrier is pretty steep, since not many locals speak English or speak very little of it. That's why I recommend at least learning some basic stuff, but you can do it after coming here, you can manage with English (easily in South Jakarta), but its still advised to learn some bahasa. I always try to learn at least a little bit of the language where ever I'm roaming, you get so much more out of the experience.

Live poker so far is non-existent (for me at least). Like mentioned earlier in this thread online poker sites work, and no tricks are necessary like vpn.
It would be nice to get some small community going, if there's poker players in Jakarta who got some small stakes games going or wants to join to set-up one please share.

Or if you just want to go for a beer or whatever, holler! Always nice to make new friends.

Can't think of anything else for time being, but feel free to ask.

-Andy

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

How does a Kost work in terms of bringing girls to your room, do they allow that / would it be awkward bumping into people in shared areas? Is there a reception area? Have to be quiet coming home at 3am etc.?

This probably varies greatly. I think some kosts have reception, but usually there's live-in maid who also takes care of that stuff. You can come and go as you please since they give you keys and whatever security measure like key card. No problem coming home wasted 4am and bang some chick, of course discretion towards your neighbors is advised. Don't be a douche and keep the noise to a minimum when others are sleeping. It's a bit more intimate than living in an apartment, but it's okay if there's some cool people living and maybe even make a friend. Most of the people living these just go to work and study.

It's best to check all that with the kost. It's probably okay if its mixed kost (men/women/couples). Maybe don't mention that you wanna bang hookers in the middle of the night, but say something like can you have friends over or your sister from your home country etc.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

for 350,000 idr plus 50-100,000 tip (i'm not a tipper but it's custom in these places to give at least 50k and you have to be a mean bastard not to) you can't complain.

most of them as in 95% have had children at places like travel or classic. i got very lucky with one girl early last year, which was part of the reason i viewed jakarta in such a positive light after that short trip. subsequent visits to classic and travel i couldn't find anyone that measured up. be warned that they have cameras in the ceiling watching you. the phone starts ringing as soon as you finish LOL.

you might enjoy those places, but they get boring quick, aren't fun places to drink, not particularly interesting for people watching. they're grim places. bangkok gogos have their critics, but if you go to good bars they're still fun, you can view their entire bodies or most of it before selecting, girls speak some english, you can test for chemistry, you can take them to your hotel.

malio club is fancier and is fun to drink in if you have the money. stays open until 4am so a good late night option. two san mig lights and cover was about $20. it's about $95 for a blowjob from one of the dancers. the girls dancing are attractive, but they are a little thicker and bustier than thai girls. they're attractive, but i prefer slim thai girls and i think the best at crazy house beat the best at malio body wise. i think the girls at malio have nicer, softer faces. malio gets boring after a few days though if you're not buying them shots at nearly $4 each. $95 for a blowjob is ridiculous. really it's only fun when you're new in town, and the girls are very flirty because they don't realise you're a cheap charlie (ie. not a sucker) yet.

alexis was over $20 for one beer and cover. the indonesian girls in the spa area were cheapest and probably hottest, but you're looking at minimum $100 plus tip for a session. they were attractive, but none were amazing. they take you in the spa and sauna before getting down to business, and the facilities are nice. alexis is also in an isolated part of town so you might have to pay a premium to a taxi driver to get out of there.

then there's BATS and CJ's which i haven't been to, but you're looking at $100 for short time with freelancers past their prime.

i think jakarta is good for a week, to learn about the city, see some sights, experience the culture, try new food, sample the nightlife, but the mongering scene got repetitive for me quickly despite how cheap it was in some places.

also, there's the issue of being held to ransom by bad cops late at night, which is in areas where classic, travel, malio and alexis are.

i can't comment on meeting women through apps or dating sites because i wasn't there long enough to mess around with that.

Never been to Thailand before, but from what I read on the forum : Thai is cheaper, slightly Good night life(hookers and etc),Visa hassle-less(for staying within your range of 6 months),much fellow grinder(for deposit/withdraw purpose), slightly better in English speaking people

..and I am from Indonesia(live in Bali for two years before) I should've promote Bali

I still think Bali has alot more to offer than just night life and else above - we have plenty good beaches and wave, cultural tradition and variety of tourism spot(beaches, mountain, lake and cultural thingy)

Gonna hit up Malioboro tonight with a friend if anyone wants to get beers. Plane lands at midnight, so will get there quite late. Any tips for first timer there?

Edit: apparently Malio next door is better

even the social visa is a huge pain in the ass though

find a sponsor, visit immigration next to that sponsors home every month, meaning if i wanna live in bali but i only know a sponsor in jakarta i have to fly back to jakarta for every immigration trip, makes it hard to move to a new place

or if i live in south jakarta and my sponsor lives in north i have to go across the city which in jakarta isnt as easy as it souns

plus every trip to immigration requires you to go 3 times, once to drop off your passport, once to pay, and once to pick up your passport

that is 6 trips in terribad jakarta traffic when they could easily do it all during 1 trip

and the social visa only gets you out of 1 of those 6 trips (the first month) but you have to fly out of the country and visit an embassy somewhere else to get it

indonesia is cool, it and the phils are my two favorite places, the phils visa is easy as cake, the indo visa is a major nuisance

For social visit visa, you don't need those sponsor etc, just a legitimate reason for you to stay that long..ex. study/courses,long trip across the country etc

And like I said.. first 60 days and extended every month and it all done in any immigration office on one day time(if you come early in the morning)or you can use agency to do it..

Ps. For more information : http://www.imigrasi.go.id/

don't buy shots. sit on a beer and watch them get naked. resist the urge to buy 20 shots to get a blow job. just go to classic or travel and get your release for $30.

what did you enjoy about indonesia so much (apart from cheap pussy)?

jakarta is what bangkok would look like if there had been no planning for 30 years.

i did find classic and travel hit and miss. the first time i went to jakarta last year i lucked into a girl who would be a superstar demanding 3000+ baht at crazy house but cost the equivalent of 1200 baht everything included, but after that point i went with 6 girls in jakarta and the girls ranged from horrible (performance) to good but all forgettable.

that wouldn't happen to me in bangkok. i suppose i'm not so discerning in jakarta when a girl might only cost $30-35 and within 5 minutes you can be in the room getting down to business.

my point is, bangkok is far superior to jakarta in every way for almost everything apart from cost of pussy, and jakarta is only cheaper if you compare the bottom of the market (which is better than soi 6 pattaya) to gogos, which isn't a fair comparison. if you go to malio, alexis, you're paying more than you would in bangkok any way and the quality is not good enough to justify the huge increase in price over the bottom of the market.

moving anywhere in jakarta during the day is a huge hassle. you have to plan your entire day around traffic. at night you have bad cops setting up check points looking to extort foreigners.
