I think you'll have a lot more fun in Pattaya than Jakarta.

Sure you do, but the places they are on display is going to run you the same if not more than Thailand. Marliboro or something? I had friends take me to some place and a ton of hot naked chicks. The cool thing about indo is they have locals, viets and mainland Chinese working. Kind of like a baby Macau.

that is a downside, but the prices seem reasonable apart from places like bats. st in bkk is basically $100 at the better gogos, whereas you can get 1 hour in jakarta for $35 and have a large selection.

It really depends on what you are looking for really. I'm guessing as you are married you are not into the same things as me hehehe.

How i came to live here is an unusual story. I was grinding live in Barcelona for about a year which is where i met a girl from Medan, North Sumatra. She was studying Spanish there. I moved back with her to the slums of Medan and continued to just play micro stakes on various sites. As you may have heard there are many "Mati Lampu" in Medan and once is didn't work out i decided to come and try out Jakatra. That was about 6 months ago and since i have come here i really like it here (apart from the traffic lol) The girls,Nightlife, food, and the fact that i have $2000 usd for a 2 bedroom apartment for 6b months and have swimming pool, gym, kitchen etc i can't complain. I have also met a new girl here and we are happy together. Although she doesn't like the fact that i don't have a job and i have to do visa runs to Singapore and Thailand every month. Although she understands that, that's the only time i get to play live cash. Although she doesn't even like that much as she knows that Bangkok is illegal. But its a safe game as i have been playing there for over a year now.
Hi Woody,

You played Gran Casino in Barcelona then? What stakes did you play? I play there every year around the time of the EPT. Seems like playing mircos from playing live must be a total waste of time. If you played Gran Casina you would have been playing minimum 2/4EUR on the electric tables, and 3/6EUR and above dealer dealt. Seems like your wasting time playing micro stakes.
Sounds like you have good knowledge of Indoneasia.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

I am planing now to go to Jakarta for 1 month. But I really want to play poker in this time.

How is the internet connection ? I don't care about the speed.
I just care to have one that doesn't disconnect. I am planing to find a place with private internet connection and have the 3g one also. Maybe one of the 2 are stable enough ?

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

why? meh I feel similar about some places in latin america, but mostly because its just not a good place to go w/o knowing the language and really restricts your options. No ex-pats speak asian and most countries here have english, so its kinda whatever.

im prob heading there next month. not sure if I'll stop in vietnam first. Planning on staying in Jakarta for a month + sidetrips to islands. They just got 4g internet very recently..I heard this year but woody said he had it 6 months ago.

Woody have you seen any major improvement in internet reliability in the time you've been there? I was reading that indo while extremely poor compared to other asian countries WRT internet, is the fastest growing of the region and had 48% improvements over last quarter - whatever that means.

airbnb looked cheap-ish for 1 month rentals so I'm sure a bit less once ur there in person - but any idea to the difficulty of renting a nice furnished place in good location for one month?

From what I understand the PI and Indonesia are in competition for the nut low internet. Don't expect too much.

ive only paid above thirty five once in two years in PI, and havent intentionally paid for girls in months, so why would thirty five short times have me interested?

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

got this reply on tripadvisor asking about indo:

4th most populous country in world, 34 provinces...some of which are kinda fcked atm.
about 19 volcanoes ( scattered across archipelago) are on raised alert since last year;
we have earthquakes twice a year ( guaranteed); floods ever year ( chose your travel dates wisely).

always dangerous epidemiological situation - malaria and dengue year round - right now we have dengue outbreak and serious situation in JKT. You have to have a good medical insurance + travel insurance before travel to Indonesia.

## constant warfare in some provinces - Irian Jaya, for example.

Shariah Law - implemented in some provinces.

## Local festivities and religious celebrations - travel across Java, Sulawesi, Sumatara in June-July 2015 is on red alert and must be avoided.

my take on it is blah blah muslim law...I wouldn't expect Shariah law to be in Jakarta tho...
Earthquakes not in JKT and floods not in summer
the dengue fever thing blows, looked into that and already over 1,000 reported cases this year as of March.

not sure how the red alert travel warning will be, since elections are in July and things can get hectic. Java. which is the island which JKT is on....

Ramadam is June 18th and lasts for 30 days...prob not the best time to be there.

hmmm, because I was planning on going like end of June - might not be the best timing to be in muslim land during ramadan. any input 2p2ers?

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

Hi guys,
I'm in Jakarta all week. I'm staying near grand Indonesia if anyone wants to grab some lunch or a cup of coffee one day this week message me.

I'm actually staying at a condo in Thamrin City Complex until the end of the week.

As for internet, I bought a net gear air card and I'm running 4g on it. It's kind of hard to find the 4g in Jakarta, because it's new and it sells out a lot. But once I set it up, I find it to be very fast.

Cheers!

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

oldschool how did you find the place you stayed? how much was it and was it in a good location?

i am starting to really like the sound of jakarta....... but the traffic sounds terrible

i have no problems walking thirtyish minutes to where i want to go.... but i have heard you cant walk in jakarta...... lolwut

doesnt really seem to be anyone answering questions here, but could you get a nice enough apartment within walking distance..... in a place you could walk....... to the nicest mall in the city in the five hundred dollar a month range?

also are there like second tier cities similar to cebu/davao/chiang mai that might be ok to live in without the awful traffic? would they have nice malls/some western food/some of the nice 'spa experiences' that jakarta has to offer?

I'm making a move from Cabo, Mexico soon and Indonesia is on my list... I'm looking at Bali.... but I'm completely open to any coastal area with good surf in Indonesia as long as I have good internet.

Very stable, reliable internet
Awesome barrel waves
Good quality food/ideally not too far from a rural farm area
Good looking girls ideally a decent amount of English speaking people?

Apparently need to make Visa runs monthly? That's kind of brutal but if I enjoy it that much down there I'm sure it's worth it to live there for 3-6mo....

Open to suggestions of different places in Indo to hit up.

Thanks guys.
