Sure you do, but the places they are on display is going to run you the same if not more than Thailand. Marliboro or something? I had friends take me to some place and a ton of hot naked chicks. The cool thing about indo is they have locals, viets and mainland Chinese working. Kind of like a baby Macau.

that is a downside, but the prices seem reasonable apart from places like bats. st in bkk is basically $100 at the better gogos, whereas you can get 1 hour in jakarta for $35 and have a large selection.

You played Gran Casino in Barcelona then? What stakes did you play? I play there every year around the time of the EPT. Seems like playing mircos from playing live must be a total waste of time. If you played Gran Casina you would have been playing minimum 2/4EUR on the electric tables, and 3/6EUR and above dealer dealt. Seems like your wasting time playing micro stakes.

why? meh I feel similar about some places in latin america, but mostly because its just not a good place to go w/o knowing the language and really restricts your options. No ex-pats speak asian and most countries here have english, so its kinda whatever.

Woody have you seen any major improvement in internet reliability in the time you've been there? I was reading that indo while extremely poor compared to other asian countries WRT internet, is the fastest growing of the region and had 48% improvements over last quarter - whatever that means.

airbnb looked cheap-ish for 1 month rentals so I'm sure a bit less once ur there in person - but any idea to the difficulty of renting a nice furnished place in good location for one month?

I'm in Jakarta all week. I'm staying near grand Indonesia if anyone wants to grab some lunch or a cup of coffee one day this week message me.

I'm actually staying at a condo in Thamrin City Complex until the end of the week.

As for internet, I bought a net gear air card and I'm running 4g on it. It's kind of hard to find the 4g in Jakarta, because it's new and it sells out a lot. But once I set it up, I find it to be very fast.

i am starting to really like the sound of jakarta....... but the traffic sounds terrible

i have no problems walking thirtyish minutes to where i want to go.... but i have heard you cant walk in jakarta...... lolwut


doesnt really seem to be anyone answering questions here, but could you get a nice enough apartment within walking distance..... in a place you could walk....... to the nicest mall in the city in the five hundred dollar a month range?


also are there like second tier cities similar to cebu/davao/chiang mai that might be ok to live in without the awful traffic? would they have nice malls/some western food/some of the nice 'spa experiences' that jakarta has to offer?

I'm making a move from Cabo, Mexico soon and Indonesia is on my list... I'm looking at Bali.... but I'm completely open to any coastal area with good surf in Indonesia as long as I have good internet.
