I have read a few threads with people taking a little bit about Indonesia but most of it seems to be about just holidays or vacations. I have been living in Indonesia for over 2 years making my living playing small stakes online and occasionally traveling to countries close by to play the odd comp or some cash games.

If anyone happens to live in Jakarta on this forum and either plays full time or just for fun please get in touch with me as i am yet to meet anyone.

Or on the other hand if anyone is planning to visit here please feel free to ask me advice on what you are looking for here eg: Clubs, Bars, Hotels, Girls etc etc.

My wife is Indonesian. We have a house and some rental properties in Bontang, Indonesia (Kalimantan Island).

We are in New York working and putting away money, but we plan return to Bontang every winter starting with winter '15.

Where are you from? Why did you choose Jakarta? From my experience Jakarta is a poophole of a city. Maybe there are parts that have charm that I missed?

Interested to hear your story about how you wound up in Jakarta.

The pills here are very good although they are very expensive compared to European prices. i'm a regular in clubs where there are very easy to get. Its a question of walking upstairs where the "private rooms" are, there are a couple of local guys working for the clubs who have pills so you can buy the very easily and very safe. Everyone in the "Discotiks" are on them. If that's your kind of thing you would love it here. Although buying them and taking them out the clubs is a big NO NO and very dangerous. Any more questions just ask ;-)

I have been in Indonesia for about 2 years now. No you are quite right. It is a **** hole. Its just full off nice malls and expensive shops and i find many of the people here are either very rich or very poor. Not many middle class people. It really depends on what you are looking for really. I'm guessing as you are married you are not into the same things as me hehehe.

How i came to live here is an unusual story. I was grinding live in Barcelona for about a year which is where i met a girl from Medan, North Sumatra. She was studying Spanish there. I moved back with her to the slums of Medan and continued to just play micro stakes on various sites. As you may have heard there are many "Mati Lampu" in Medan and once is didn't work out i decided to come and try out Jakatra. That was about 6 months ago and since i have come here i really like it here (apart from the traffic lol) The girls,Nightlife,food, and the fact that i have $2000 usd for a 2 bedroom apartment for 6b months and have swimming pool, gym, kitchen etc i can't complain. I have also met a new girl here and we are happy together. Although she doesn't like the fact that i don't have a job and i have to do visa runs to Singapore and Thailand every month. Although she understands that, that's the only time i get to play live cash. Although she doesn't even like that much as she knows that Bangkok is illegal. But its a safe game as i have been playing there for over a year now.

HAHAHA... Honestly that's what i thought you meant but i didn't want to start blabbing on in case i was wrong.... OK so its not like BK at all as you can't really pick them up on the street or in bars unless you go to the backpacking areas. If you do that then they are usually fat old 50 year olds that have been crack whores there whole life. Although if you have white skin on are a blatant foreigner then its safe to say you can pretty much have anyone you want for free. If you go into some of the clubs known for prostitutes then you will have to pay maybe about $40 for an hour and it will be just business. But you can easily get there number and have them for free the next night and just buy them a little bit of food and it will be more than just business then. As this is mainly a Muslim country (not what all people think about Muslims) then the hookers don't really stand on the streets. In the clubs the work independent which means there is no bar fine. If you go to another club where they work for that club then you can't bar fine them.... but you can take them into a room and ruin them for an hour or 2 but not take them home. Overall i would say the girls here are on the same level as manila (by that i mean easy to get NOT LOOKS) although there is a lot more of a shortage of westerners here which means the girls will literally stare at you at you walk down the road and do anything to get you. The only downside for someone visiting for the first time is there is a shortage in the level of English spoken. I have lived here for 2 years so i can get by. But if you want hookers that speak English im afraid Bali would be your best bet

i'd like to visit jakarta at some point, but from what you describe bangkok seems better/easier to get what you want.

And what do you thnink of the girls in Sumatra? I spent few days in Medan and Bukit Lawang few years ago and i remember there were maaany cute girls there. Way above asian average in general.

Depends what you want mate. It is defo easier to get whores in BK although you have to remember they have probably been rinsed out by 20 western guys that week. But your right it is defo easier in Thailand. Although i still have to say with reference to clubs the clubs here beat BK hands down. Here have some of the best clubs in Asia which means picking up a girl for free is easy. Its up to you if you want to just walk into a bar and pay for a hot girl and smash her all night. personally i have been doing that for years now and don't get me wrong i still do it. but now i am starting to enjoy the freebies. I still go to BK to play some dodgy private games and i still go and get some easy girls as you know what they say "when i rome"

I used to live in Sumatra for over a year in Medan. Personally i didn't think much of the girls there. All the nice girls are the Chinese Indonesians there like my Ex. They all come from very rich families and from my experience its very hard to find a "fun girl". Many of them want a man with 3 businesses, 1 big house and a couple of cars so paying poker for a living is out the question. Also there idea of a saturday night is drinking ****ing ice tea till 10pm then going home. NO holding hands or kissing in public like we are used to. And the muslim girls...... Don't even get me started on them. I had some right filthy girls there but honestly i didn't like the look of them. Plus they are generally the lower class who don't have much money. And the whore there are all ***** crazy! I didn't think much of medan and got tilted up with the power cuts as it lost me quite a lot of money.

Whats Bukit Lawang like though? I have never been there although heard it is meant to be nice?

hey guys. i'll be moving to Indonesia soon and I'm trying to figure out if my credit card will work for other poker sites. is it pretty much like other countries where a use of credit card for online poker is normal?

It depends what credit card you will be using and on which sites. To be honest i havn't had to deposit since being here "brag" although i had some troubles with my Nat west debit card when i first came. The way i do it now is i just transfer my money to a friend who will then either tranfer to my account or western union it to me. I find its the safest way to do it. If i wanted to deposit i would probably do the same. Its safer that way. Just in case.

Which part you moving to and why?

It on the edge of the rainforest. It's the main start point for going trekking to see urang-utans. It's definitely one of my favourite travel experiences and infinitely better than seeing orang-utans in Malaysian Borneo:



That said if I went back to Sumatra again I would do it it differently. My guide fed and touched one of the urang-utans, which I don't like for obvious reasons (disease transmission and so on). From the reading I've done you can have a better experience if you go in from one of the less heavily visited areas.

The town is a nice place to relax for a day or two but you wouldn't want to live there. Powercuts will be much worse than Medan. These photos should give you a good idea of the level of development

ancn150 your right about the website although it just doesn't tell you everything you want to know. It says that Blok M is one of the best places to go. What is doesn't tell you is that all the places there are full of dirty skanks are 60 year old sex tourists. Like i said before if you are a westerner. You can easily get 20 year old sexy girls for free.

Also i am very curious when you "relaxed" at Alexis? It is not a relaxing place. Unless you like to relax after having a few pills and drinks. Although i have to agree Alexis is definable recommended.

Also MSATR, classics and travel are good places. You can go into a room and f++k them for an hour for around RP350,000 ($35) Although these are also very westernised places and are a lot of white sex pervs there. Try a place called "flights" Same price just no expats and the girls are 100x better. (thats only if you want to pay)

Weather is hot all year round although there are some raining seasons. and flooding can get bad.

Cost is very cheap. Depending on your lifestyle of course. If you are sensible then can easily live on 100k every day ($10) with change. I pay about 25million a year ($2,500) down payment for a fully furnished 2 bed apartment with kitchen, living room, dinning room, bathroom,pool, gym, AC, balcony. (AC, Electric, water bills are around 1 million per month ($100)
Bought a motorbike for second hand for 5million ($500) and to fill up the tank once a week its about 50,000 ($5)

Internet is good. Can buy BOLT 4G for 350,000($35) then after that its about 100,000($10) a month
