Hey there,
Yes you can play online poker here but you will face difficulties in depositing and withdrawing if you use local banks and/or credit cards. The only online payment processor we can use is click2pay and entropay. Western union is another option especially for stars. For withdrawals, click2pay provides the best solution with its Debit card. I've personally used it myself so no problems there but there is a RM 3k limit through the local ATMs (roughly USD 900). Alternatively you can request for checks as well if you don't mind the wait.
The only online room so far that allows for direct local bank transfers is mansion88 (same as mansion on the Ongame network). There are other local/asian poker rooms that runs on a credit system with its players (borderline illegal
)
USD 300 a month is not enough especially in KL. Including rental i would recommend at least USD 1200-1500. imo i wouldn't recommend living in KL itself. Go check out the satellite cities surrounding KL like Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Mont Kiara (mostly expats), Hartamas, Petaling Jaya and Bangsar.
The poker community here is small but healthily growing (i would like to believe
). If you do come here, check out
http://www.pokermalaysia.com. I'm one of the admins there and it's basically just a simple forum set up to gather the few local poker enthusiasts and to make live games easily available (we got two 'poker rooms' running almost everyday and some willing hosts for home games as well). Don't bother going to Genting for poker. The only initiatives they made so far were organizing freeroll donkaments that awards NCC chips and having HE tables against the house
. Matt Savage and APPT tried to make headways here but so far no success
. Philippines has the largest poker community in this region and now hopefully Macau, with the advent of APT and APPT.
Enjoy your stay and enjoy the food!
