Hey guys, hope you are well and not going crazy for not being able to travel

I have picked up the Corona topic in my new weekly travel show as well and put some thoughts together on what might change:

- Different Travel habits: We will see people choosing closer destinations rather than flying to other continents (wont apply to me though)
- Travel cost: This one is an interesting topic- most seem to think that travel will generally become more expensive. I dont think its out of the question that we might even see some discounts popping up if airlines/tour operators/hotels try to fill empty spots- what do you reckon?
- Hygiene standards: One thing thats for sure is that we will see much higher standards in hygiene, which is generally a great thing. Airplanes will upgrade to better ventilation systems and we will have an easier time washing/cleaning our hands pretty much everywhere.
- Border situations: Now with the EU recently opening up their borders internally, I also can see that more and more countries open up again should they have successfully flattened their curve. Some countries are still reaching their peak and wont be as far, but over time we will have more choices to fly to again. I personally hope that Nepal will open up in October again so i can go hiking there!
- Waiting times: We will certainly see higher waiting times in airports and tourist attractions. Corona tests will become the norm and this is the most crucial part of the entire topic of when we will be able to travel again: We need a corona test that can be done in a few seconds, not delaying the bording process of a plane for too long. The process will generally still be longer than in the past though when we were just rushing into the plane one by one.
- Local interactions: My last point is especially interesting for people that use Couchsurfing and a lot of hitch hiking: How will locals interact with us in the future? I really wonder about this one and how it will work out and guess only time will really tell...

I put up my thoughts in detail in this video as well, feel free to check it out and let me know what you think

Cheers,
Chris

international air travel for the masses will no longer exist. if travel is your hobby it's time to find a new one

Well, international travel will definitely be more expensive imo, with so many airlines facing hardship (not that they didn´t before, or always, but this crisis was a bigger blow on them), more regulations, more government control etc.

Rich people will keep travelling. Adventurous people will keep travelling, and the smarter ones will find a way of doing it cheaper. The masses probably won´t, but the masses are always scared of smth anyway.

I think ticket prices will drop, in the short term at least.

"international air travel for the masses will no longer exist. if travel is your hobby it's time to find a new one" - hehe turst me, I will keep traveling - even if international air travel would not exist annymore. Even better if you are forced into more adventurous land / cargo boat routes!

but im pretty sure that by Q2/Q3 next year, everything will be back to normal should we not have a new wave or a new virus hitting again.

That is lol69's dream. So everyone could be as miserable as him.

But as chris said, everything will be back to normal by Fall 2021 at the latest. Who knows what will happen in the interim. I'm in a couple digital nomad groups and some are already finding ways to travel, but it sounds like a more limited experience. Personally, I'm not flying anywhere until maybe next Spring, although I might try a couple more local places in Fall/Winter.

Outside of USA#n, aren't most airlines either nationalized or very much subsidized by their governments?

So, it will be difficult for United, Delta, etc to get going internationally again. But easier for others like BA, Lufthansa, etc?

I mean, would these national airlines be able to provide artificially low airfares to entice tourism, once people and governments are ready for non-essential travel again?

As for me, I'm planning to try some domestic, land-based travel over the summer. Camping trips to get out, but still be pretty isolated. We'll see how that goes.

Lufthansa is currently negotiating with the german government on how they should be saved, but since there are so many jobs on the line, some way or another - they will be saved. Is that not the case for US airlines? Trump wont let them go down or?

Airline prices are going down for sure. Places like Vietnam are already discussing discount airfares and trying to work with airlines to get packages together to rebuild the tourist market. Tourist market basically collapsed, the only way to boost it again is to make it enticing for passenger to want to fly. I do agree on the comment about longer waits and time to travel. So their might be other cost to get where you going, mandatory COVID test or something else. Have to purchase ins. or some other bs to travel. For the actual ticket, I think going down. Or the the tourism market would not survive. Especially in SEA, so many people of the city rely on tourism to make money at all. The sex industry of SEA basically does not exist with out tourism. Just an example, because I have done research on this part. Rich people are not the one frequenting places like Pattaya or BKK red light districts like nana plaza. It is the average person who make average earnings. If they could not afford the flights the industry, (tourism) would fail. Many countries economies would struggle. Most woman that work in places like have family in provinces, depending on the same market to make a living. Long story just to say, yeah the airfare will still be affordable.
