I think I just had a gun drawn at me in an attempt to rob me in a dark, empty road at night. He seemed drunk because he could've easily robbed me if he wasn't as dumb about it. He said "Hey man" and demanded something in Tagalog while reaching for my pocket and in his other hand holding something that looked like a gun pointed at the ground. The moment I saw it I just turned my back and ran. When I looked back I saw him and his friend speed off on a motorcycle.

Ironically I took a photo of the road 5 minutes before it happened. I know I shouldn't be out there at 4am lol, but I had always felt so safe on my night walks before. Gotta save those 50 pesos.

Better make some more money and Grab / Uber everywhere or even better just get a place somewhere that is integrated into a mall / has a mall footsteps away. While the average pinoy isn't out to get you - most people are poor as **** and life is cheap in SEA.

I suggest Eastwood City in Quezon City, which is in line with your current budget. Girls know where it is, transportation there is reliable and you can meet girls in the mall if they don't want to go straight to your place.

Once you have a bigger budget get a place at Knightsbridge which is right next to the Century City mall, or even better at Gramercy which is directly connected to the mall (but it's becoming overpriced these days).

BGC is a pain in the ass to get around in without a car unless you live in the higher end places right next to the malls, so I personally wouldn't bother, even though it's considered to be the best area.

BGC is definitely more of a luxury, i stayed in those buildings u mentioned near century for about a year and there is nothing missing there. and I spend at least 2x in BGC compared to what i used to spend there.

I like living on the edge I'm not going to move just because of that one incident. But if money was no object I agree BGC is nicest to live and probably has the hottest girls.

Walking at 4 am to save money is terrible. Wait till sunrise and go for breakfast.

Some guys on a moto looked like they wanted to try me in Cambo last year walking away from Soriya mall with a girl at 4 am (low point of life for me). They circled around on a moto on a street with no buildings and I said to the girl "if they come run and get a tuk tuk, I'll be alright". But they circled I gave them the come for it look and they sped off for easier pickins...

I was nervous because they are truly packing most times. All this after I read about countless robberies like this and advice to always take a tuk tuk in the early morning hours.

I personally think your quality of living would improve living in Eastwood City and your expenses would probably be roughly the same, as you won't have to use Uber / Grab ever again unless you really want to get out of the area for some reason.

I went to eastwood once and it seemed like a really nice area.

Not gonna be easy to find a studio in Eastwood for less than 20k with a 6 month lease. Eastwoods nice but it's very isolated if you ever wanna go elsewhere. Traffic makes going to bgc or Makati a nightmare.

you can stumble around drunk anywhere in SEA other than the philippines and probably cambodia (somewhere like johor baru too) and nothing will happen -- ever.

Solaire is not that far from Makati but the traffic between the two locations is brutal except in the dead of night.

Moa is a big mall. Attached to it is a very large grocery store where youll be able to find just about anything youll need.

Theres at least 2 gyms there. One is (i think) defined fitness which is an upperscale gym, the other is anytime which is 24 hours and also has locations everywhere. When i moved to taiwan i just used that sub to use the anytime gym there and when i went home for christmas there was a location up the street from my house in the states too. Very cheap and convenient.
