the priority will be a BUDGET decision, so you don't ever have to relocate back 'home'

Please elaborate? It's easier to make friends with Filipino people than people from other Asian countries? (apart from language barrier)

Yea handing out numbers to random girls on the street will probably not do as well as in the phils for this reason but in my experience (and friends' who are into game a lot, they in fact speak pretty much 0 thai), girls you will match on tinder who are looking for farangs or at good nightlife spots will speak english decent enough. Don't expect to be discussing the fine nuances of american geopolitics with them though.

Don't understand your comment about the sex tourist stigma? Do you mean thai people will think you're a sex tourist? In bkk there is not this vibe at all, unless you wear the fashionable Chang tank top

The 300nl pool I play against is... interesting to say the least. Two hands from yesterday:

9-handed, UTG limps $3, it folds to me in BTN with K K, I raise to $15, blinds fold, UTG 3bets to $60, I flat call
Flop T 5 3 (headsup, pot is $125)
UTG jams $180, I call
UTG shows 5 3

UTG and HJ limp $3, I'm CO with A A, I raise to $18, UTG calls
Flop 9 8 2 (headsup, pot is $44)
He checks, I cbet $30, he raises to $98, I snap shove, he folds with $57 behind

No, other thais will think of her as a potential hooker and that is the last thing a girl with a better job / relatively high status wants, even if you two are about the same age.

The less she makes and the lower status her job is, the more open she'll be to the idea of potentially being seen hanging out with a foreigner, as no thai guy will ever come around that makes farang level money.

based solely on personal experiences you are without a doubt in the best place if you need social interaction, the best combination or speak english, friendly, and like foreigners

(generalizing)

vietnamese can't speak english and stick to their own kind

cambodians are pretty friendly but the language barrier is quite bad and the girls are very conservative, odds are if you go there and get casual sex you are freerolling a hooker (which is pretty scummy imo, though can possibly be done in a non scummy way) oh ya, and don't go to cambo, it is at the bottom of the barrel for SEA

thai's are a mixed bag but the language barrier is real and they don't rate anywhere near fils when it comes to being social with strangers (in b4 jspill says he wears skinny jeans so this wont matter)

Once you get above a minimum level of appearance (dress/grooming/youth etc.) Thais are very friendly and then it all opens up and it's way better. More hot girls on online dating, more hot girls out and about in the day, average girl is hotter, girls better hygiene

The 2+2 racquet club / muscle factory crew gets laid quite a lot. Like torg0th said it's no big problem with English, conversations go as deep as they go with your current GF just the sentences are more broken

However if you don't make any effort in dress / grooming or are old / fat, the philippines is better they don't quite care as much. For example body odor, hint hint, would put off a Thai more than a Pinay

How good Thailand is for you is like on a parabolic curve with effort, whereas philippines is more flat line. Thailand better to spend more time in when you're younger, Philippines when older, both are still great tho so go to both

I assume by 'make friends' you mean have sex with women

Lol then my gf is definitely an exception. After our 1st date she literally told me, in the nicest way possible, I smell and so does my place! I replaced my deo, body wash and cologne and she still sometimes says I smell like sweat, one hour after showering and putting on fresh deo and cologne!

She stopped complaining about my place's smell since she's the one cleaning it.

you have to remember jspill is captain of the team thailand fan club, i highly doubt many people who have spent significant time in either country would agree that you will get just as much conversation with thai's by wearing boots

are thai's more materialistic? sure

would wearing boots help? sure

doesnt mean that by doing so all of a sudden it makes things even, dressing up in phils would also raise the bar there too, just not as much

you have to remember dante is chairman of the thailand detractors club

you get more convo but it isnt any more deep or intelligent, just less broken surface level small talk

i wouldnt say thais are materialistic just appearance / image is more important cos its more Asian than Phils, but if you put minimal effort in you're in

yeah it raises the bar in phils but not as much, like i said 'more flat'

actually i liked thailand more than expected and can easily point out its strong points and just as easily talk about what sucks with phils

trying to argue that you are going to get just as much social interaction in thailand as the phils is a lol argument to try and make

you can probably find a smarter girlfriend in thailand that can have a more in depth convo.... but this wasnt about girls, he specifically mentioned talking to shopkeepers and what not

wearing nicer clothes might make thai's give you more of the fake smiles they are known for, isnt gonna make them chat with you

your whole post a few back certainly seemed like you were arguing that if you wear boots you will get just as much social interaction or more in thailand than in phils

I've witnessed a situation where that happened before. Guy on the street trash talked my friend's girl for being a gold digger or some ****.

Quote:

Thais will think the lower class looking girls (dark skin, trashy look, etc. guys who live here will know what I mean) are potential hookers/gold diggers. The middle class (girls making around 30k-40k baht), those are the girls who stand to lose the most in the image/benefit tradeoff. And like you said, the girls that are busto get the golden ticket.

The upper class high value girls (good looks, "noble looking", education, blah blah) won't be perceived like this by thais even if they're with a farang. First of all because they 99% of the time will be dating a farang who's a ****ing boss, for obvious reasons. I'm sure there would be some resentment from her social circle guys for dating outside the thai pool though.

This is the one thing I hate about Thailand (i'm sure this is prevalent mostly in BKK though), it's ****ing hard not to get sucked into this super status/image conscious mentality when you are surrounded by it at all times after living here years. In the end like Jspill says, you can use it to your advantage and it's a nice kick in the ass to work on your mindset. I.E. improving the external factors (looks, money, charm skillz, etc) while trying to maintain a detached frame to it all.

^ To say 95% of the population are Buddhists, it sure seems they are super superficial. I am quite surprised to hear this, it sounds complete nonsense tbh but then again I haven't got any evidence to support my case.

Very possible i'm blowing it out of proportion in my head. I should add that I believe this mentality is more prevalent amongst thais that have bought into the materialistic rat race.. which is a lot of people in bkk these days, social media is making it way worse

I'm down 8 buy-ins in July so far, running very bad. I also had to fix some leaks, mainly cbetting too much and not folding enough when facing aggression from passive fish. Still, the amount of setups and lost all-ins has been insane. I'll be playing only 150nl for now till I win some back. The graph is currently about 90% 300NL, 10% 150NL and I've been 3-tabling since 7/8, 2-tabling before.

What city I'll move to when my lease ends on 9/16 comes down to how much money I'll make in the next 2 months. My current favorite is Cebu but if I continue to run bad I might have to find somewhere cheaper. I'll be working hard the next 2 months for sure.
