Where in Europe? Where in Europe?

08-07-2022 , 12:06 AM
Hello guys

Recently visited Europe for a month and really enjoyed the lifestyle as it seems much more laid back than the US. My goal is to move somewhere in Europe next year for 6 months and see how I like it.

I'm pretty open but big plusses for me are good food/restaurants, live poker, nature, lively and active city.

The two cities I've been bouncing back and forth are Barcelona and Paris.

For poker, I'd be happy playing 5/5PLO+

Would love other suggestions and any input on these two destinations. Thanks!

That's a bit generic, good food/restaurants, nature, lively and active city, you can find that in every bigger city these days, just scroll though a list of capitals and maybe cities over 500k. Live poker, you will be disappointed probably esp at 5/5+ and PLO. The live poker scene in Europe tends to be rather modest, much of it is killed by very high rake, Paris still has 4% uncapped IIRC, Barcelona is better but I doubt you find your games there with any regularity either. Also other policies that do not exactly draw players, dresscode, entry fees, no free and high priced drinks, some places still allow smoking. Barcelona is a nice city, except for all the petty crime around the tourist areas which includes near the casino but that can be navigated

Yah, I've been in "Europe" since December and will probably stay until 2024, but it involves jumping through hoops and getting creative.

I was in Spain/France/Greece for 3 months (the 90-day Schengen limit boliver mentioned), then 1.5 months Turkey, 1 month Italy, 1 year Georgia. Next year I'm doing the Balkans, which still has a 3 month limit (apart from Albania, which is a year for Americans), but at least you can hop between countries and get a fresh 3 months, unlike the Schengen countries.

And yah, live poker isn't really a big attraction in Europe, but I agree that the lifestyle is much better than the USA.

You could also look into digital nomad visas, several countries have them now, usually you need to show 6-12 months of 3k+/month earnings to qualify.

I've still got another 6 months in Georgia. It's pretty nice, I think a lot of people would really like it, but I'm into bigger cities so it's a bit boring for me. I've been traveling too much lately so I'll use next Winter to focus on grinding.

Yah, Brazil was really cool. I'd move to Rio without hesitation if there were an easy residency option for my gf and I. Maybe someday.

how's the cost of living in Georgia? You're a city guy so I assume you're in Tblisi.
Have you ever tried rock climbing? I certainly recommend it, I think there are some clubs in the capital

I mentioned some of the costs in another thread. Yes I'm in Tbilisi. It's pretty nice, just smallish for us at around 1 million people. Here's what I wrote elsewhere:

Rents are the main thing then went up due to the Russians. A $500/month place might be $750/month now. My place is in the fanciest neighbourhood, brand new 2-BR with jacuzzi and balcony, on 6th floor, fully furnished, and it costs $1k/month.

Some products are a bit pricy if they have to be imported, but local restaurants and food are super cheap. Total bill is $12 for 2 soups, 5 dumplings (khinkhali), and 2 drinks at our fave local place.

Phone plan is $7/month for unlimited data.

Public transport .33 a trip, or Bolt (like Uber) will cost like $1-4 for most places you'll need to go.
Never tried rock climbing, but it sounds awesome and I noticed there's a gym nearby. So I'm gonna dive in head first and am already looking up exercises to work on rock climbing muscles. Thanks for the suggestion!

Not in the Schengen area. 90 days in any 180 day period only. If you stayed 90 days you have to spend 90 days somewhere else until you can come back

Sweet!! The best thing you can do to get good is body awareness, flexibility etc. (pilates, yoga). Being overall strong helps in certain moves, not all. And there's finger strength, but that takes time. Having shoes that fit good is very important.

There are different types of climbing that fit different body types and personalities. Bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing
Have fun!!

I practice yoga a ton so my general fitness/flexibility is ok, but the main issue seems to be that there is almost 0 pulling in power yoga. So I tried a pull-up yesterday and couldn't even do 1, but I did a lot of assisted pull-ups and negatives and will work out 4-5x a week to start building climbing strength.

It's been fun reading about it, and I'm excited to get started. I probably have a pretty good body type for it. 180cm, 65kg, +4 ape index.

Anyone do Montenegro? They just announced a four year digital nomad visa. Decent weather, pretty cities, super small country, seems tempting on the surface.

I'm doing a year in the Balkans starting next April. I'd love to hit Montenegro for 2 months, but it will depend how easy it is to get there. The Balkans are pretty shitty for train connections and even buses can be confusing.

The digital nomad visa is interesting, but the country is so small, I'm not sure I could do it for a year+.

Hey, Gonzo!! I remember you, man!
I've gotten a lot into rock climbing and I got ''rich'' (for Br standards) selling online porn

So I'm starting an indoor climbing gym here in my town - to see if that'll be any fun and if it'll give me access to good pussy. The money will probably be good, me and my team are working super hard to get things going. Rented a really cool studio apt (like best in 1mi city) for total $600 a month, banged like 7 new girls this month lol

However my hometown is super boring (bad women quality, not much nature, expensive cost of living) and I don't have that many reasons to stay other than family. I'll probably move out in 2 years or so when the business is up and running, stable and profitable etc.

Where to go then? Hmm **** man, so many places to go! Georgia, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, China have to be in my top picks. What about you, what'd you suggest?? I really want to print out tons of kids, man

Fossilkid, did you go climbing mydude?

The EU gives Americans 90 days visa but the country itself can give you an additional 90 days, authomatically. I was in Budapest, Hungary in 2020 and when i went to get an extension after 90 days that's what the immigration officer said. Basically i could stay there for 180 days without going to the immigration for extension. But, each to their own as countries within the EU have different immigration laws so double check.

Yah, I went to the small gym in Vera Park, not sure if you know it. There wasn't really anyone to help, most people just doing their own thing. So I was just observing, then trying some basic climbs. My arms were completely burnt out after about 40 minutes, but it was a lot of fun.

I've been training almost daily to build up my climbing muscles and I'll check out a different gym that I think has classes for beginners, so I can learn proper technique and stuff.

I'm going to Europe for a month next weekend (Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Thessaloniki, Italy) so I probably won't be climbing for a little while, but I'll keep training.

I haven't ever been in Georgia, can't recommend a better gym, sorry Shame they didn't help you out much - it's normal that some places have no vibe at all, but some do!! I'm sure you will find fun people.

It's normal to get "pumped" forearms really quick for the first two months! Haha. Remember to shake out the arms a bit before/after boulders and during the climb in sport routes. Also don't "overgrip"!

There's a ton of climbing in Austria, Greece, Italy. Would you have the balls to try outdoor climbing? It's my favourite!
