What is the best place to play live in Buenos Aires?

Also, is it easy to get a 3g/4g dongle as backup? I've heard internet is ~6mbit in B.A and not 100% reliable.

There is a Casino in Puerto Madero.

And yeah, from my experience, internet is not the best thing in BA...

Place to live... Palermo or Recoleta for sure. I lived in Recoleta but I think Palermo is better because of the night.

I'm currently living in Thailand so I'm used to unreliable internet, just hope I don't lose too much to disconnections in B.A.

I will be staying in Recoleta.

Hi fellas - Im here. ImLostOnRiver - I added you as a contact.

For bets places to live - or go with the old pretty neighbourhood of San Telmo - or go with the modern hip metrosexual Palermo. In between is the very stylish Recoleta with old but remodelled buildings - the rent is higher here though. Make sure to bring dollar bills as currency as the street market value of the dollar is twice the official price.

For other neighbourhoods go ahead and ask me - Villa Crespo, Caballito and Almagro are good choices as well just not as centrally located.

Hope to see some faces here!

Bennie where did you add me? I don't see any notifications anywhere.

About the money exchange on the street, what rate would you be looking at and how do you make sure you don't get scammed/robbed if you are seen exchanging a fair amount of dollars?

You have sites like this http://www.dolarblue.net/ to know more-less how the $ is...

I've traded successfully with more than half a dozen of them, mainly in the beginning of Calle Lavalle right after the Av. 9 de Julio, after some time you start to know all the faces ... Go to at least 3 of them and try to negotiate, normally you can try like 0,4 or 0,5 more than what they say the first time. Also, it's important to exchange during the week and preferably in the morning.

To withdraw dollars just go to Colonia in Uruguay, you can go by boat and they have great promotions, mainly in Colonia Express.

Thanks for info MrCorreia!

Can you rinse repeat Argentina to Uruguay until you have infinite money?

If you have infinite money on your account, I guess so

In the 5 months I lived there I did this Buenos Aires -> Colonia trip like 4 times, no problems at all, every foreigner does this

I meant buying dollars in Uruguay and exchanging them on the street in Argentina then taking the pesos back to Uruguay and buy dollars with them at a much better rate.

So no problem with Tourist visas going in and out nonstop?

Ahaha, everyone always thinks the same thing! xD

The problem is that in Uruguay they give you a ****ty exchange rate for Argentian Pesos (precisely because they know their real street value) and therefore you even lose money doing that.

Yeah, I think so, never heard of problems with that...

Hi, a local here...

I don't recommend San Telmo as a place to live, sure it's nice for a walk on the weekends but not the best place to live, Palermo-Recoleta are a lot safer.

For internet if your ISP is "Fibertel" you can have speeds up to 30MB i think, it's stable.

4G is not avaible in Argentina yet so the best thing to do is to have a secondary ADSL connection like "Speedy" because 3G sucks hard.

Cheers!

Arrived in Buenos Aires 2 days ago, I'm wondering what is the easiest way to get football tickets here? Show up at stadium on match day or buy somewhere in advance?

I know little of buying tickets but I think that will depend on a lot on which team you want to see. I went on gameday to see two unpopular teams but I don't think that will work too well for the more popular teams.

I'm not a fan of any Argentinian team so I'm thinking to go watch River Plate or Boca Juniors just because that's the teams I know

for Boca games technically only club members are allowed to purchase tickets, so you either need to be one or know someone who is and negotiate with them. other team's games should be easier to get tickets for. anyway, i don't know how long you're in BA for but Boca/River played on Oct. 5 so they probably won't be playing again for a while.

at http://www.tangol.com/eng/football_matches.aspx offers tickets/tours for different clubs. i'm not sure what the tours include but they seem overpriced for just the tickets, you're probably better off just buying tickets at the stadium in most cases.

I'm thinking about moving to BA later this month. My plan would be to rent an apartment in Palermo off airbnb for 1 month, and then if I want to stay longer look for something more permanent. Would airbnb be the best bet for an initial 1 month rental?

Also, from the googling I've done it looks like if I arrive by plane I have to have proof of onward journey. Does anyone know if this is strictly enforced or there is a way around it? What about if I book a ferry to Uruguay, would that be fine or do they need a plane ticket?

Any help appreciated

Airbnb is a good source of short term rentals in BA, especially if you don't speak Spanish.

Nobody has ever checked my proof of onward travel. YMMV. Ferry ticket would be fine.
