And that tells you that you don't wanna be a policeman in rio. What else does it tell you? Drug dealers don't go around killing tourists...

no it tells me I dont want to be anywhere near that...any civilized nation does not have gangs blowing up helicopters out of the sky.....oh and that was 3 miles from where the center of olympics are going to be....very nice choice

here I am going to the olympics on a bus....."oh **** a bus just blew up right behind us" fellow local says to me "standard, sir"

Nine buses were also set on fire in other neighborhoods close to "Morro dos Macacos" favela, in retaliation for a police operation aimed at controlling heavy gun battles between rival drug gangs in the area.

Sick thread. Made me reconsider moving back to Thailand for a year. I just might go to Brazil 6 months first and see how it is.

Reason why a lot of poker players go to Thailand( at least for me) is cuz the girls are soooooooooo easy. Like you can literally say whatever you want and still sleep with them the same night. Does that work the same way in Brazil? Probably not right?

(clubs, bars, nigthlife in general, is it cheap??), How much do i need for a week???(1000Reais Maybe???) I would like some help on this issues if I like the city, I would probably move there for like 6 moths/A year.

I don't understand why people are choosing Thailand and Argentina in front of southern Brazil. I've been to Thailand and Argentina and it seems much worse than what you get in southern Brazil. It is quite cheap there, the cities are extremely nice (Porto Alegre looks like San Francisco, very modern and clean with lots of trees on the streets). And Brazillian culture is very hedonistic and centered around having fun. Amazing food .. way better than Thai. Barbecues and extremely fresh fruit and vegetables and sea food. Girls are also amazing and any type you want. I flew from Porto Alegre to Buenos Aires and thought BA is a ****hole compared to PA. Another amazing city was Curitiba, altho it has worse weather than Porto Alegre. The weather is more cloudy, while PA is mainly sunny and nice.
I live in porto alegre and everything you said about the city is true except for the food.. if you live in the USA you will be dissapointed with the general quality of any kind of food, except for meats/barbacues wich are the region's specialty. Fruits and vegetables are also good.. but asian, french, italian, international foods are of inferior quality.

Also, the currency is kinda cheap NOW (at 1$ = R$1.78) but I believe the dollar is gonna depreciate and we see a much stronger real... so it may not be so "cheap" in the future compared to the US.

Crime is a real problem also.,.

check this wiki article on the city, very informative:

Having traveled extensively and after spending only a few days in Sao Paulo, I thought, "I would never recommend anyone visit Sao Paulo." I ended up staying there for 89 days, visiting my brother. We went to Rio de Janeiro for four days, and I wished he was living there instead because that city is gorgeous.

I wish I had more money because I would have dined at D.O.M (Sao Paulo), which is on the short list of best restaurants in the world.
