shoulda started with this picture, knowing why a lot of guys go to Thailand. But yeah hookers in Brazil are cheap (as in sex being a cheap service due to general promiscuity of the culture ) and much better looking than those in Thailand . However, I recommend the countries for other reasons, this is just bonus.

anymore info on what to do after the initial 180 visa runs out? If someone wanted to stay in PA long term and wasn't getting married, having a child, or didn't want to invest 50k, seems like the only option is the work visa, so anyone know about how to do this? If its "fake work" and you were found out would there be some issues?

usually if you mess up with their visa requiremets you are not allowed to enter for 5 years, thats what happened to some europeans who simply didnt leave after their touristvisa expired and were forced to leave by the police, so it might be a bit harder if you faked a job. and still workvisa doesnt mean just to get any kind of job.
i would love so much to live in this country but the visa requirements are just such a pain in the ass, made me so pissed that now i just think if they dont want me and my $$$ living their, ft
if you want more information just go to any brazil forum, half of the discussion will be about the visa

Nobody answering to you infensus so i'm gonna try but my english really suck. I'm from belgium but i lived 4 years in Brazil and i traveled from the south to the north of brazil.
It's complicate to say what city you should go, because there's a lot of different places and depends on what you like, and what are you waiting for.
First, its important to know in what period you wanna go because the weather is bad in the south during the winter (in the north its 100% hot all the year).
I think Porto Alegre is not a really good place to go, and curitiba as well. They good places for living but not a lot of party, cold weather, no beach..but depends on what you want ( curitiba's good weather is 100% bull****, worst weather in Brazil, maybe your friend just had luck).

I lived 2 years in Florianopolis, its an island in the south of Brazil. I think its the best place in Brazil, but thats my opinion. There are so beautiful beaches and a lot activity, party and beautiful girls during the summer.. but less during the rest of the year...There is a good live quality and not a lot of violence.
Natal is also beautiful, like a lot of places in the north of Brazil. I can't say a lot about thats places because i just stayed a few days each like a tourist, so difficult to say if its good for living or not. But i really prefer the culture in the south of Brazil...more interresting people, best girls...

Always wanted to go to Brasil... Until 3,4 years ago my friend and his wife went there. They traveled around Brasil. Visited 4,5 different cities including an Amazon river tour. He said it was the best vacation he ever had and not even close. But when he told me, when they were in Rio for the first 3 days, and everybody in their tourist group (about 20) all got robbed (all got robbed but him). I decided to pass on Brasil and go to Thailand instead.

I'm also seriously considering PA as a new home come Nov/Dec. I am 23/M and have been grinding SS HUNL for about a year now. I'm pretty easy to get along with, so if anyone wants a roomate, or if anyone wants to start a "poker" house, PM me. I only speak english currently, so finding people to live with who are familiar with PA and the language would be a huge plus.

Hope to hear from some other travelers.

Dan

1) The withdrawal amount is measured in R$ (Brazilian currency). Depending of the ATM you can cashout R$1k or R$600 per time. Now 1U$=1.9R$
2) Depends of the hostel
2) There´s 3g, but depends of where you are. I think 3g is already working in PA. You can easily have 2 other internet connections such as adsl+cable, etc.

I'm trying to find a furnished apartment in a coast city (Porto Alegre, Floripa, Natal) with one bedroom that is rented out on a monthly or weekly basis with stable internet and close proximity to the beach. I've tried googling for this but all I find is either rented out on a daily basis or has 4 bedrooms and is way out of my budget/needs.

I don't want to pay more than 1200 $ in rent for my entire stay (a month). If someone helps me find what I'm looking for I will ship you 10 dollars on Full Tilt.

People who are considering moving to Brazil should know that from what I've researched it's impossible to live there for more than 6 months out of a year legally without making a strong commitment such as marrying a citizen, making a large investment, being a full time student, or being a serious volunteer. You can overstay your extended visa after 6 months and they will charge you by the day like 8R or so until you leave but you would be staying illegally which can cause problems and you will not be able to reenter for at least 6 months after you leave.

If anyone knows of a way to stay there comfortably for a long period of time please let me know.
