Best city to live in Vietnam ??? Best city to live in Vietnam ???

Hi, I m thinking about moving to Vietnam for at least 4 months. I used to live 3 years in Phuket and 1,5 year in Bali and I m looking for something like that. I like beach live, scooter ride and training bjj/mma. I was only 2 weeks in Nha Trang but I didnt like this place. Too touristic in bad way of this world. I know Phuket and Bali are touristic too, but you can find there an oasis of peace with great restaurants and gyms and avoid tourists who came for 1-2 weeks with travel agencies. I m also not big fan of big cities, the only big city I love is Rio de Janeiro where I spend half year in 2021. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I would spend the first few weeks travelling the coast and checking out a short list of places. Only you will know which ones do it for you.

You could try Da Nang and nearby Hoi An, I've never made it thus far, but I heard peeps like it there, but what swiss_cheese said is basically correct. These places are prolly very touristic too. The problem with Vietnam is, the level of English proficiency tends to be not very high, to put it mildly, it's not particularly great in Hanoi or Saigon to begin with and obv gets worse the more you go into the countryside

I liked Nha Trang but fully understand when you say it's too touristy. I lived in Da Nang for a few months and it wasn't touristy enough, although there was tons of fun things to see solo and moto rides to keep me entertained, but I never got very assimilated into the local culture.

Da Lat seems like it would be really great depending on the time of the year. It's in the mountains, was a large univeristy presence in a small town, and I felt more welcome and at home there than many other cities in viet. Had a very unique vibe too it.

Mui Ne would be too small for me, and likely too touristy for you.

Hoi-An was really really great, but one of the absolute most touristy places I'd been to in all of asia. Fun for a week but not to live imho, and its close enough to Da Nang where I'd just stay there as a homebase, which is what I did. This was 2016, could have changed by now.

I've lived in Nha Trang for like 7 months and liked it but if somebody likes to party it's not the place for them. It has great climate with low humidity.
Da Nang was a little bit more humid and the beach was worse as there was no spots with shadow, but it was great to explore on a motorbike due to its broad inter-district roads.
Da Lat was cold and I assume it's boring.
Hanoi has some bad smells.

Danang, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, and Phu Quoc island. These are the nice beach towns.

Quy Nhon is not touristy at all, but might get boring after a while. I stayed 3-4 nights, didn't see any foreigners.

Danang is probably the most popular with expats. Though it is somewhat similar to Nha Trang, without the Russians.

Phu Quoc is great for the beach life. If you don't need a proper city, then might be the best option.

Da Nang and Nha Trang are the only beach towns with decent bjj fwiw. Phu Quoc has an mma gym but I dont think there's much actual grappling.
