It's the frist time I'm genuinely impressed with an internet offering in Laos. For 250.000 KIP you get unlimited bandwidth fast low latency internet. It's pretty amazing. Needless to say it's perfect for poker.
Lao Telecom? I've found that every time I mention how great X internet service is I end up jinxing it

Yeah I'm worried they'll get saturated as more people learn about it. Good thing is 4G/LTE phones aren't very common and a dedicated modem is 750.000++ KIP, So the growth in subscribers might not be as explosive as what happened to 3G, where every service became **** after the first few months.

Yeah, I've found that every wireless service is amazing when it first comes out, then it gets saturated, then over saturated. So much depends on location too. My Beeline 3G is absolutely rock solid, but it barely works for my friend a few blocks away.

Yeah offering unlimited data over wireless is doomed to fail eventually. You might get 5 years out of it though, who knows.

For anyone who can read/write Lao and has an android device, SwiftKey now supports Lao. It's so nice to just type ສ and have it automatically suggest ສະບາຍດີ

You can also automatically switch between languages just by swiping the space bar. I assume it's also great for Thai.

Hey WhoIam and Mithras. It's been a while since I've been on 2+2, and more specifically this thread. I do plan on visiting Laos in a year, and I'm hoping both of you will still be in Vientiane around June. Would be great to meet up during my stay there.

I'm half Lao , however I can speak Lao/Thai on a conversational level. I've been out of the online grind and NL Hold'em for a year, but definitely would like to hear how it is for you two to grind out there. Not many players settle there, from what I can see. Perhaps we can skype, PM me. Cheers

Hey guys, I will be in Laos in for 1 month, in Vientiane, I guess, as I need at least 3Mbs for video calling. Is this quote still accurate :

Will my hotel wifi be enough for a fast enough and stable connection, or will I need another source? Thx

Yeah that's still your best option and much better than your hotel wifi for video calling.

Heading to laos for a visarun in two weeks, adding a couple days however so have 3 days to fill before heading to vientiane.

Wanted luang prabang initially but fliying there from vientiane is nearly the same price as a flight to europe.
Any advice on places to visit not too far from vientiane?
Interest lies maybe with some nice sceneries/waterfalls and whatnot, preferably not too touristy/too many backpackers.

Never written any TR and I’m a bit bored at the moment, figured I’ll give this a try.

I arrived in Vientiane Thursday night for the second time in my life. My childhood best friend married some local and sometimes feel lonely over there. Apparently western expat community is mostly backpacker or old French businessman. Figured I’ll go spend sometime over there for New Years. Next week 4 more friends from Canada are joining us so timing isn’t bad. Haven’t seen them for a few months already. Pretty hyped to hit the golf course with them, I was quite surprised by the number of golf court available. So far my I’m not sure what my impression of Laos are. It’s a little like Cambodia without gambling, open prostitution and beaches. That’s good and bad at same time. It can feel a bit boring and non exciting. Language barrier is clearly an issue when you try to make some game on the beer girl at the BBQ joint or chat some girls from the internet.

Haven’t done much mongering exploration yet, but I visited this Vietnamese massage parlour. It’s not so far from national palace, maybe Vientiane hidden gem? Most clientele seems to be Chinese. (No racist encounters yet with them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up in bar fight with them at some point) Anyways , Vietnamese girls are on point. Small frame, big tits, cute face. When I entered the lobby there was about 15 girls in short pink dress, wearing flip flop heels displaying all the beauties of those white legs. All I remember was that I picked a petite one and managed to bareback her for 2 rounds. Finally some good value for my money. She probably was quite happy to end up with a young handsome boy. She definitely enjoyed kisses in the neck. P2P doesn’t seems to be an issue over there. Already spotted a few KTV and shady massage parlour.

This weekend is big music festival in VV, my friend was caught up at work with meetings and could not attend so he asked his wife brother to take me there. While I’m writing this I’m sitting in a van with the little bro and his friends, none of them speak English, but two of them speak some mandarin so at least there’s a way to communicate. Out of the 10 guys one of them brought his girlfriend, god damn she’s hot. Hopefully she attract more girls and alcohol fix language barrier.

I think we still got a long ride before reaching VV, I better catch some Z’s and rest in preparation of tonight’s.

One of the dog spotted the hot gf and won’t get out of the van.

Update on the trip report? Hope you're liking Lao.

I've been back to Europe for a few years now with family but still go there every month for a year or so. I'm not sure if WhoIam or anybody else from Twoplustwo is still living there.

Are Laotian people celebrating Gregorian New Year? Do they celebrate Chinese New Year?
I know that these festivals are not so important as Buddhist New Year, but, are they remarkably celebrated anywhere in the country?
What happens on major Laotian TV channels on January 1st? Will the news on New Year be the main topic on TV? Or will there be only some pieces of news?

They celebrate both, but Lao new year is in April.
