You pay the lowest vig at Superrich in Bangkok. Not sure of the exact location, google it.

Depending on the amount, just exchange a little in the airport to get you by, and then go to Superrich, if its worth your time.

For a long time stay, make a bankaccount as Lessu said. The procedure how to do that have been brought up many times in this thread.

+1 best rates i’ve seen, definitely fine if your arent changing that much initially

I saw 31.x THB / CAD at the airport
while elsewhere it was 28.x-30.x THB / CAD

I’ve also been told superrich was the nuts.

I was at superrich and it had a very good rate, just make sure to go to the real superrich and not the (bigger, flashier) fake one next door lol

http://www.superrichthailand.com the real one

^ yeah you could end up spending a few thousand baht/month more on taxis if you live far away from the centre of town in somewhere like bangkapi. lak si even worse. lose time to work, girls won't want to go home with you, etc.

there are suburban places like lat phrao that are very cheap too but also connected to MRT

take chloroform, the girls wont have a choice then ^.

Hey JSP or anyone else, I buddy boy told me about this place.

http://web90.server2.kingstaff-server.net/annaplace/

do you know how far that is from central BKK?

good value imo, but dunno about location, as all my time twas spent in central bkk.

^ lat phrao 126, yeah that is fairly far

even tho' it's very cheap at 3-4k/mo it'd effectively be a huge amount more in extra taxis and opportunity cost of losing hours to work/grind

for me it'd be the equivalent cost to paying 10k for somewhere walking distance from a central BTS station, so i'd never choose to live there and play poker

but if it's just a 1 month stay while you're teaching english (fixed hours and partying less) as you mentioned you were gonna do, i think it's ok, especially if your school is close by

there are three apartment complexes on lat phrao 35, all around 5k, a friend lived in this one, was pretty nice http://www.tee-pak.com/en/Baan+supar

another few I seen, I dont like using these apartments sites as they are to target foreigners, but will check them out and see the D low.

no1 choice is the one you give me so far, looks like da nuts (pun intended), you said the internet is pretty good there too right? I saw a few reviews of other places, and the wifi is meant to be pretty gash in general in these places.

Bank booths at the airport offers no different rates then other branches. There is a single rate posted on each of their websites

There are a lot of places near the main area other than ladprao u can get. Like onnut is prob the best area for cheap prices. Where ever ur looking, make sure there is a bts or mrt within 5-10mins away or u won't be able leave the house during rush hour. there's a place on sukumvit soi 22, but its about 10k a month

Yes I live in Lad Prao and spend a lot of the weekend going in and around Sukhumvit and its no big issue. Its a ten minute taxi late at night going home and its 15 minutes on the MRT. But as was said you must be within walking distance of BTS or MRT. Lad Prao is an okay area to live in.

I dont mind if its a little out an easy to reach a BTS/MRT via bus/taxi boat. say like 20mins or less is ideal for me to reach BTS/MRTs. budget around 5-7k bhat. But if its goning to be 1hr+ during peak times, then id rather not. Do you have a link of were you stay mate?

I'm actually staying in a house now but I have stayed in a condo around here before. There is a glut of places here and really you just have to walk around to find them. Also you should look at Ratcha Road and all the stops going towards the city centre as you could be lucky, many places are not online for your budget though. Another area closer to town is the start of the Sky train at Mo Chit and the first 3 or 4 stops are nice places to live and possibly within budget, Ari, Victory Monument, Saphan Kwai area.

Anyway, happy hunting.

hey guys,

i've read few sites in this thread with big interest and i have a few questions hoping you can answer them

i am from germany and i am going to book my flight to bkk in the next days and want to arrive there in the first week of july.

I only have a passport, a laptop and a mb/neteller card with some bucks.

I am playing mt sngs on stars, nl100€ 6max on a small site and trading a lot in diablo3.

I have never been to thailand before so my generally plan was moving to bkk, stay there for 1 month and then decide wether i take my ticket back to germany or stay there for longer.

When i arrive in bkk i get a 30 days visa right? After 30 days i have to make a visa run and get another 30 days?

Is it easy to find a "good" serviced ap. in bkk? What i want is a fast and stable internet connection, safe place and maybe a laundry service because i don't know how to wash clothes Also it would be nice to have a gym there or nearby the apartment.
Furthermore i am interesting in learning the thai language (or just some phrases^^), is it possible to find a course where i can go 2 or 3 times a week and learn a bit thai?

Has anybody a recommend for me regarding to serviced apartments or has anybody a free room in a poker flat? (sry for my english ) I am not only interested in bkk, if you know other places where all my aspects are filled (?, again sry for my english!) i would also move in an other town/island.

And how much $ should i expect to pay for an apartment? Are they all with a 2-month deponat even if i just want to stay there for 1 month? I am really bad in saving money because i am donktard who spends too much money :> so i would prefer to find an apartment/room for around 300-600$/month.

Can i use my moneybookers card to pay the room? And how much money can i get from the atm per day? in germany it is limited to 250€/day.

Sorry for all this noob questions but moving to thailand is a big deal for a person like me.

THX!!

you can emal moneybookers and ask them to raise your wd limit to 500€ a day

@AChipler

for apartments you can get them from $150-$700 a month depending on how baller you want to live and what location from what ive seen.

just get a single entry tourist visa, which is 60days. cost around 30euros. Saves the hassle of leaving and comming back in.

I coming 2nd week of July, Im looking for the cheapest possible(but clean and nice ) place to stay.

got my eye on this as its been given good reviews by a few guys on here

people withdrawing with their MB card in ATM
do you have a visa or a mastercard?
i have a mastercard and cant withdraw but i read somewhere that this is the case, no cash withdraws with the MC only with the visa
can anyone confirm this?
thanks

not true, cashed out plenty with both visa and mastercards, might be the the specific atm you've tried, some of them wouldn't accept any card form me on some days

thanks for your answers, maybe i should contact mb to upgrade my account but i guess i'm using my account not enough to be a vip. i give it a try.

also thanks for the link @peopleselbow, but i can't find a price for the rooms? And do you know what they mean when they say "hi speed" internet? Looks a bit strange that tv costs more than internet for a month.

i don't need a baller apartment what i need is a fast and stable inet connection. How do other "grinders" handle this? Do you have several internet connections? I don't want to save a hundred bucks for the apartment when i lose 500$ in a session because of an internet crash. So if anyone of you have a recommend for me, feel free to tell me how can i back up myself and don't lose too much money cause of crash and tilt :>

AChipler,

get a tourist visa from a thai embassy in germany before coming here. that way you can stay longer without leaving the country. read the sticky for more info about them and ask if you still have questions after
