You want me to tell you where I had good steak and good sushi in BKK? So you can nitpick and pick apart my review? I already told you that is completely missing my point.

no the issue is that you are just plain incorrect in everything you say, yet you insist you are correct. You first say that steaks are not as good compared to the USA, but then you give absolutely no reasoning behind it when asked (fwiw i think the steak/beef game in bangkok is much better than most US cities). Then you decide to go on about how people should be eating **** smelling fruit and weird thai stuff rather than actually enjoying good food that the city has to offer, thai food or otherwise. Then you suggest one of the worst thai chains they have in every single mall. At least if you insist on only eating thai food, you should have some good recs of somewhat halfway decent places.

is there anything i need to know about this? am i allowed to leave the airport? what would you guys recommend i do during this time?

2. i have ~17 full days in thailand, and i'm on my own. originally my plan was:

bangkok for 5 days
phi phi for 4 days (via flight to krabi and ferry)
samui for 3 days (ferry/bus/ferry)
phangan for 3 days
and back to bkk (via flight from surat thani or samui - which one?)

the aims of my trip are to get a flavour for the different kinds of lifestyle the different areas of thailand offer (ie city area and more tranquil areas near beaches), and also the usual spending time at a couple beaches, touristy stuff, etc.

obviously i'm going to have quite a busy 17 days - can anyone comment on whether i'm travelling an unnessecary amount for my aims? as in, would my experiences be similar in samui and phangan for example, so i might aswell only stay in one and spend less time travelling?

my main question here is: with my goals in mind, how would you guys adjust my trip?

thanks a lot for your help
1. holy layover! you know flying direct would have given you an extra day in thailand? how much did you save by taking these huge layovers?

2. i haven't been to koh phangan or samui but i would expect your experience to be similar than on phi phi (biggest reason why i haven't been to samui or phangan yet).

you mentioned you want to experience different lifestyles. you got the citylife and beachlife covered how about spending a few days up in chiang mai instead of going to all of the 3 islands on your list?

for example you could fly there after going to phi phi (ferry from phi phi to phuket and direct flight to CM)

anyway just a suggestion. whatever you decide i'm sure you will love all the 17 days of your trip.

^could perhaps cut out phangan - bit similar to the other beach stuff as you mentioned. also a bit of a small island with not much to do, except enjoy the beach and full moon parties with backpackers when they're on

you could read into some of kanchanaburi, ayutthaya, amphawa, or lopburi - these places are all <3 hours from bangkok in a van for a few dollars, those would be good for your goal of seeing different lifestyles in a few areas and cut down the time spent travelling

sean changing beaches like that seems like a hassle. also id recommend going to the beach immediately when you arrive. better to get over jet lag somewhere chill than in big smelly bangkok

something like
arrive BKK, take a domestic flight to phuket
chill on the beach in phuket and phi phi for a while
take a flight to chiang mai
tour around the mountains/jungle for a while
take a flight to bangkok
look at palaces or w/e, check out the nightlife and restaurants

it's pretty cheap/easy to fly domestically in thailand, you don't really need to book anything more than a day or 2 in advance, so you could just wing it based on how much you like different areas

in general i would try and avoid long bus/train/ferry rides and stick to flying. way way faster and more comfortable

I said that eating the same stuff you get at home defeats the point of experiencing food abroad.
Surely some of the purpose of eating food is that you avoid starvation. I'm not sure how it defeats that purpose.

After a bit he comes back to me and says he is running bad and can't pay me back (he owed me $600 on June of last year). I let it go for a while assuming that he would pay me back once he got the money.

A month ago, Bodhen comes to me asking for a stake for 50 plo. He is looking to pay of his debt to me and has reasonably good results at plo so i go through with it. After a week, I find out that he simply stole the money i sent him for the stake ($1000), and withdrew it from his account. He sends me a series of emails saying his stars account is locked, but he refuses to come and talk to me or send me corresponding emails between him and stars making his story really hard to believe. My last contact with him was on April 4th, and he has been blatently ignoring my messages since then (his last 2p2 sign in date was the 6th).

Anyways, just a warning never to do any business with this total scumbag. I was only trying to help him out with his situation and he decides that its a good idea to steal money from me, it really shows what kind of a human being he is.

that is all.

about the layover, yeah unfortunately it was necessary
so any idea on what to do?

although originally my plan included cm, i chose to leave it out because it is a bit out of the way considering i'm going to be spending most of my time in bkk and further south, and i expected it to be fairly similar to bkk, should i reconsider? thanks for the reply

cheers i will take a look at them

yeah i think i will leave out one or more of the islands, possibly samui and phangan and stick to mainly bangkok and phi phi

i'm strongly considering spending some time in krabi on my way from bangkok to phi phi; how does bkk->krabi->phi phi->bkk sound over a 17 day period?

thanks for the help guys

My 2 months tourist visa expired on the 16th of April and I was wandering if they would still give me the 1 month extension visa at the thai immigration center if i went on the 17th. All I need to do is pay a fine of 500 bahts per day right?

today was a holiday so immigration was closed so as long as you go tomorrow the 17th (first day after the holidays) you will get the extension. you won't need to pay for overstay either

I am thinking of movign from Costa Rica to Thailand for 2 months, then Bali for 2 months from July. If anyone would have a free room somewhere in Thailand for June and July, or Bali from August and September please let me know. Also how much should I be paying for a decent sized room in a shared house in both locations? they are both 2 month Tourist Visa's arent they, not 3?

Thanks, and PM me if you have any info, as this thread gets looooooong lol
