i picked up a zadez internet modem stick here in vietnam. it has about 5/600 networks worldwide (networks range from 3 Australia to Zain Nigeria) it can connect to so if one of the mobile broadband providers is slow or whatever i switch to another one in a few seconds.

i have used it as my sole source of net in places and as a back up when the hotel wifi etc has been good enough to grind on and its been absolutely perfect but it obviously depends on the quality of the countries network. i dont know if you can pick them up from the shops in thailand but you could contact the manufactures (based in china) and see if you can get one shipped to you

http://www.zadez.com/index.php?do=ab...d=1&menu=about

it cost me $50 and has free data added every month and its the absolute nuts here in vietnam. i am going to thailand later this month and will check it out there. it could be the ultimate poker travel tool as it gives the freedom to use any network in the country so if for example one connection is better in chang mia and another is better in phuket you have the freedom to switch without the hassle of buying a new stick and being unsure about the quality etc.

will an ipad2 bought in thailand work on a cellular data network if i take it to the US? the Ipads dont use sim cards right? any thoughts on Ipad2 vs samsung galaxy? im leaning towards the galaxy because it uses a sim card and im pretty sure it will work in the US when i go there.

so hard to get any useful info in the electronics stores here.

umm how were you thinking of connecting the ipad to a cellular network without a sim card?

you can buy ipads that can only use wifi, they are a bit cheaper. the bit more expensive models have sim card slot in them so that you can use 3G or whatever you got back home (or where ever)

there is this thing called The Internet. you might want to learn how to use that before you buy a tablet. you could learn for example, that the ipad3 will be announced in a few hours,

well in the US some 3g models use sim cards and some dont, the verizon model for instance has 3g capabilty but doesnt use a sim card. I wasnt sure if the thai models used sims or not. I went to the apple booth at kad suan kaew and asked the sales man if they used sim cards or not and he just kept noding his head and saying uh huh uh huh. thnk you for clarifying that they do indeed use sim cards, do u need to unlock an ipad like u do an iphone to use it in another country?
