Which sites are best for searching for apartments in Pattaya?

I know of these three:
http://pattayacondoguide.com
http://www.property-pattaya.com
http://classifieds.thaivisa.com

Most of the bigger bars and clubs are in Chaweng, and there are 2 gogo bars too. Lamai is the 2nd biggest bar area, but they are mostly beer bars/sports bars.

For regular girls I'd try Ark Bar, Sound Club or Solo rather than Green Mango. Mostly western tourists and freelancers in the Green Mango. It's one of the better places to find white chicks though.

Freelancers can be found anywhere, but usually not until pretty late (i.e. after 1am).

does anyone know whats the longest period a falang can stay in Thailand? A normal visa usually lasts 60 days and you can get another 30 days extension if I understood right. what happens after those 90 days? do I need to travel back home and reapply for a visa?

It is kind of uncertain right now. But if it is your first time in Thailand you can just fly to a neighboring country and go to a Thai embassy. There you apply for and likely receive a new tourist visa. But if you're a guy who has been living out here a long time on tourist visas there is supposed to be trouble now... I haven't had to personally deal with that yet, though. Have any of you guys?

ive been here around 3½ years now and apart from one year all on tourist visas

last time i entered immigration lady officer just mentioned "you stay thailand long time na". i didnt say anything and thats the biggest "trouble" i have had so far

if you are getting problems with tourist visas then look into educational visas for example.

Regis, like Kardnel said if you are new to thailand without many visas in your passport yet just go to Vientiane. last i read clean passports get a double entry tourist visa from there (one tourist visa can have 1-3 entries(2 max from vientiane though), check the sticky for more info about visas. just pointing out that visa doesnt have to be only 60+30 days)

looks like Savannakhet in Laos is issuing double entry tourist visas aswell even if you got many visas in your passport (according to few reports on thaivisa)

but if you want to stay longterm ED visa seems a better choice nowadays. especially if leaving the country seems like big trouble for you

it is very relaxed and chill, you forget that you are in bangkok. very modern with tons of full frame glass doors that open automagically and duck pillows etc. internet has been stable but other reviews have said that they have had problems. food and laundry is really expensive. they have some problems with smells from the bathroom but when i covered the drainage with the trashbin and keep a window open i dont notice it but it definatly lowers the hotel from a 5* to a 4*. they have tuktukservice from/to sukhumvit road, getting from hotel to Nana BTS is like 5minutes 0baht. they have some middle eastern/indian/pakistani presence, not like the soi 11 hotels but you notice them and some japanese. not seen any bargirls yet, seen some emporium type girls with farang boyfriends. pool doesnt taste chlorine but is a bit chilly now in december, about 30m long but you have to swim a bit diagonally and tons of bubbles at reclining seats in the pool.

i give it

Lessu is that information current? I heard the rules are supposed to have gotten much tighter in October or maybe November... but I haven't had to secure a new tourist visa for a long time now.

I just heard about it both on that stickmanbangkok site and from the chiang mai thaivisa forum. I guess I haven't heard of any horror stories, but both of these places said the rules changed.

so what rules changed and how ?

just because a rule changes doesnt mean it makes it a big trouble to get a visa

Here is the specific quote from the stickman site - from mid October:

Quote:
It seems like only a few weeks ago that I predicted a crackdown on those existing in Thailand on tourist visa after tourist visa, year after year and guess what, that is exactly what has happened! Reports are coming in that Thai embassies and consulates in neighbouring countries are not giving away tourist visas like candy as they used to. Anyone applying for a tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate in a neighbouring country with one in their passport already will face a lot of questions and may not be issued with one. The most popular visa run firms here in Bangkok who seem to have connections cannot get tourist visas for those who have just finished a stay in Thailand on the same type of visa. Probably the best known such firm, Jack Golf, is currently telling people that they only provide a border run service and cannot actually assist with the procurement of visas. Even visa agents in Phnom Penh, which until very recently was considered a soft touch, report that the embassy have got tough on anyone who is obviously residing in Thailand on back to back tourist visas. It has been said that this crackdown has come about due to the inordinate number of foreigners living in Thailand on tourist visas. The scapegoats seem to be, somewhat surprisingly, Filipinos who are working in Thailand in increasing numbers. What seems to have people concerned is that this is in fact not a crackdown, but a permanent tightening up in policy at the latest Thai embassy in the region to be known as a softtouch. Several years ago things got hard at the consulate in Penang which was for a long time the most popular place to get a new visa. Vientiane followed with the Thai embassy there cracking down and declining applications by those who already had a number of tourist visas in their passport. Phnom Penh has seen a surge in applications for tourist visas from those who don't appear to be bona fide tourists and they too have cracked down. The Phnom Penh embassy now asks applicants who seem to exist in Thailand year after year on such visas to provide details of their condo rental contract and Thai bank account. Some people may have inadvertently incriminated themselves by furnishing said documents, the latter of which could very likely show deposits into their account which prove that they are employed!
I cannot find the post on the Chiang Mai forum but I believe it came out a couple weeks later. The person in that post claimed that if you were on 2 visas back to back a third would not be issued or something. Obviously not reliable but considering similar claims were being made in two different places I thought it was a cause for concern. I guess if nobody is actually reporting troubles yet, though, that should indicate that there are still no problems?

thanks for posting that stickman report, i am not surprised when i read that through but it really isnt news anymore if you have been around here with tourist visas the past couple of years

and the bolded part has been true for a while at least in vientiane but savannakhet (according to those thaivisa reports) seems to be ok at the moment

the thai solution to crack down illegal workers by making it difficult for everyone to get visas is obviously absurd (especially when they mention certain nationalities as the main problem)

anyway the main point is that tourist visas are just one way of staying here, not the most flexible one and not the most hassle free.

i am myself probably signing up to a thai language course when my current visa runs out. no border runs and maybe i will finally learn to speak some more thai

I'm very interested to hear of anyone's experience with Thai language schools for visa purposes.

Specifically:

What school, where is it and how much was the course?
Did you have to attend a physical classroom or was it online/skype or they didn't care if you showed up at all?
Did you have any issues when applying for your extension of stay at immigration?

I also plan on doing this but I want to wait until I am 100% certain I will be staying out here another year. My time line is such that I fly home to visit in May and will return to Thailand in June - I'll get another 3 entry visa back home just in case but I intend on signing up for courses. In the mean time I need to do one more tourist visa run in January. I really hope it goes smoothly - and then I am pretty sure I'll be set for the next few years at least. Worst case scenario I guess I can fly in and out of the country every month for a few months... but obviously that is quite lousy.

im sure most of these questions have been asked and answered in this thread 100 times but u cant really blame me for not wanting to sift through 1500 pages of threads so....

i was thinking about moving to manilla but a couple of people have said i may like thailand better, but in reading this thread it sounds like thailand isnt very cheap and thats one of the things i like about manilla, how much can u get an apt for a month (us$) in a big city in a safe area? ive found some in manilla in supposedly the nicest area in the city for like $250

also can u find high quality w33d in thailand? im assuming yes on this

is it safer than manilla?

what would be the pros and cons to living in thailand?

Manilla was the most shady place I have ever seen in my life, so yeah I would say almost a nywhere is safer. You can get an apartment in the best location in the ***** world on Niman in Chiang Mai for $120/month, clean, very basic with solid internet.

Really dont like Manilla, stepping over homeless people in the nicer areas at every step and getting the hawk eye from shotgun wielding guys in KFC not my cup of tea

change posts/page = 100, use 'search this thread' function for 'manila' and 'manilla', and go repeat process in the 'anyone to ask about the philipines' thread

ignore the thailand = not cheap comments
