Both items would have to be picked up from my condo in bangkok, not interested in delivering anything.
What sort of things require step up/down converters besides Xbox?

If you think Thailand is expensive, you're doing it the wrong way. You could start moving out of Bangkok, which probably is the most expensive "area" of the whole country. I understand that many parts of USA isn't that much more expensive, but as you said yourself, you have to take every cost into account.
Compared to my country (Sweden), Thailand is the pure nuts. I skip the freezing winter as we speak, while saving up more money than I could do at home. I live very comfortable here for $700-900 per month and I never have to cook, clean or do any laundry like I did at home.

My travel mate (american) who lives next door also loves the low cost of living here, exceptions are milk, cheese and keloggs

i stayed at LeFenix in soi 11....really good service double room @ 1,8k thb/night without breakfast. they have good food and fast room service @ ~ 200 thb. nana bts station is close and 7 11 around the corner. lots of bars and good restaurants near by: nest/q bar/bed/manchester united/limoncello/oskar all in 3 mins walk. you can also try staying at Seasons Boutique Hotel its on the same street rooms look just as good less pricey but can't remember if they had a rooftop pool, i doubt though

if on their site you cant see any free rooms, call them.they dont always update the availability. most of the times i booked via phone call. the good thing is that they dont ask for a credit card so if you don't show up they don't charge anything

Is it easy to get Lantus and Apidra pens?

I googled, but I even don't know if they sell those in Thailand. In Estonia we have a site, where you can search if your medicine is available at the store near to you. Maybe there's a Thai version of that?

Are Gluccocard x-meter test stripes available if I want to buy more?

If I bring like 30 pens to Thailand would it cause trouble with customs? I know its not illegal, but 30 pens look a lot.

Any other tips?

You can pm me also if you want.

Thanks!

I've read that they sell a lot of knock-off DVDs in Thailand. Anyone ever pick these up and know of the quality?

yeah i buy them sometimes. price is 60b/DVD in phuket. the two shops i go to are very fair and let you know if the movie is just a screener (shot with a camera in cinema) or a copy of a real dvd. you can also test it before you buy or bring back and change for free if there is a problem with the disc.

i have had to go change the discs several times but in the end you get what you were looking for

Pretty much the only thing cheaper in Phuket than CM and I still can't work out why. I could easily get 50 baht a DVD in Phuket if bought in bulk, here they won't budge from 100baht at all. Seems strange

It's not that my gf doesn't understand it, i don't even understand it often.

But I guess it's cool to have english as your 1st language and have a problem if someone needs subtitles
