Good luck and do some research on prices of stuff or ask people you meet so you don't get newb scammed

If you ever looking for a hotel in Thailand www.agoda.com is alway a good site to book through and has good prices.

A friend highly recommended Ramada Encore on soi 10 which looks to be about 1500/night.
thanks

someone recommended "dream hotel" so we booked it on agoda for around 2100

if anyone wants to meet up for drinks/food/whatever, we're definitely down

Can anyone suggest a good place to get a tattoo in BKK, preferably with the option for traditional bamboo style aswell.

Also, a good place to get sushi around the Silom Road area? Thanks!

I am goign to stay in phuket for 2months. Area: Kata noi beach. The building has a wifi but I do not "trust" them. I need a back-up.

I was searching ITT a bit. Is 3BB Indy 12 Mbps package the best choice? I still did not figure out which plans are on a month-to-month basis which I obv. need.

Any advice which service suits me best?I am owning a dongle(which I bought last year in BKK), need a prepaid Inet service in Kata.

i am not gonna say anything about 3BB anymore since there are so mixed report about how it works with different packages at the moment. i guess if you choose them take the premier package (if they do month-by-month)

phuket wireless internets have upgraded a bit since you were last here. nowadays you have 3 ISPs that have 3G service (AIS, true and cat). you might want to look into those for backup internet

Sort out the renting when u get there mate. You will get shafted on price if u do it through a site. Book a hotel for a week and have a good look around to make sure you like the area where want to stay, the best deals are always had face to face in Thailand, everything is negotiable.

houseinphuket.com (only 6+ months contracts)
siamrealestate.com (usually the most overpriced)
phuketrenthouse.com

each site has their own rules about address stuff so you might want to ask them. withdrawing to what ever methods you are using now should be ok and you shouldnt need to change your address either

yeah obv dont book from online directly. like we mention to everyone you really need to see the place irl before you sign any contracts.

i cant see any problem going with some of these agents though. you can still haggle and not all places have for rent signs when they are listed on these sites. i would do both: driving around yourself finding houses and seeing what the agent sites have available

edit: this was to shea obv using VVs comment

How long u actually been in Thai mate? You must be one of the great survivors that hasn't gone busto down there, many have come and gone but you still seem to survive

I feel the need to make a pilgrimage down to Phuket at some point to meet some of you lads for a bunch or beers and degen stuff as I haven't been there for 2 or 3 years. It would be fun as long as you can cope with a semi Klaus hehehehe

I don't know of any hard-line internet service that does contracts for less than 1 year. Usually foreigners getting a 1 year internet contract are required to pay the full 12 months up front, precisely so people don't sign up for 1 year and then skip town after a couple of months.

Phuket might be different...but in BKK Iv'e had contracts with most the major internet companies.

They have all been for 6 months. Require you to pay for the modem/installation unless they are running a promotion. But never have to pay for months in advance, always just a month to month basis. But being under contract is prob standard in thailand.

I just assume, if you break the contract you will be on record with that company and never be able to get internet service with them until you buy out of the contract.

Another solution is to get CDMA. Have to test it in Kata because it can be iffy there. depending on the location. I know Lessu is sometimes renting a connection.

Hardly a waste of money. You get what you pay for. The Four Points Sheraton is a much nicer hotel than your two suggestions.

3bb Indy package is only good if you surf Thai sites, for international sites you need premier. Last time I asked 3BB would only do a 12 month contract. And CAT CDMA will probably not work there due to the mountains.

almost 3½ years now.

There are over a dozen who came around same time or earlier than I did and stayed, some of them just dont post here as much as i do. so trust me, many "great survivors" down here in phuket and in bkk/CM

Vuckingfish, you have so many followers that i am sure you could organize a 2p2 party in phuket. Most people owe you a drink after all the work in the thread you keep alive. Let me know when so we can reserve a table at blow at surrender.

now that dtac has 3g id recommend them over true, i just switched myself, their 3g is about the same(dtac has been abit faster, true was fast when they first started with 3g but it got way worse latly)
and they seem to have way better phone signal.

3bb wants 12 month contracts, but the termination fee wasn't too bad if i remember right. the problem is that falangs have to pay 1 year up front. so you'll need a thai person to be able to have a contract that you can break inexpensively

if I ship an 1year old 30'' TFT to phuket with DHL(and include the receipt), is thai customs giving me a hard time? Charging a fortune?

Will I have a problem bringing in 2 30" monitors and a desktop through customs in BKK when I only have a 30 day tourist visa? I'm getting the education visa sorted once I get to Chiang Mai...should I tell them that, or what?
