Thanks
yea you cant get the 1 year type O visa from hull easily anymore. need to be married, have a child with thai, retired etc like for other embassies

2. When you get a double-entry tourist visa, do you get 2x 60-day entries, or 2 separate entries within a 60-day period (total time 60-days max)? I have people arguing for both and would just like a clear answer.

3. When you arrive by overland and are given the 15-day visa exemption period, do you need proof that you're leaving within 15 days?

*Basically I have return flights to Thailand for an 80-day period, but plan on leaving the country after a week overland and returning overland about 45 days into the trip. I am hoping to enter the second time with an overland visa exemption and then fly from BKK to Myanmar, and come back a week later. If I do this I will arrive with <30 days in Thailand left and won't need a visa. However if I don't do this I'll need to have a double-entry / organise a tourist visa whilst there during the trip.
1. these things change all the time but so far i have not heard anyone being asked for ticket out when coming in with tourist visa. i myself came to thailand with tourist visa 3 weeks ago and was not asked for anything.

the only problem with the 30 day visa extension is that the airline might require proof out of the country. since you have a visa they will let you board BUT you can try to not enter the visa number on the arrival card and see if the immigration officer will stamp you for 30 days and thus saving both of your tourist visa entries.

if the officer notices the visa and asks you about it you can try to tell him the truth that you are leaving by land in one week and wish to not use your tourist visa entry. that might work as well.

you will get into the country one way or another so i would not worry about that

2. there is a "enter before" date on the visa. as long as you use the entries before that day you will get a 60-day stamp both times when you enter. also keep in mind you can extend those entries for further 30 days inside thailand so you do get 2 separate 60(+30) day stays with the double entry

3. officially yes but it depends on the immgration officer if he wants to see it or not. why not use the tourist visa when you enter overland? you will get the same 60 day stamp like arriving by air and wont be asked for proof out of the country.

Thank you for your help, only competent response I've gotten for days

In regards to your last question, I'm trying to avoid all unnecessary costs, so I think I'm going to only organise a single-entry tourist visa for when I land (and will try not use it like you said), and then enter overland using my 15 days exempt period and then travel to Myanmar for a week and when I come back I get another 30-day exempt period which will last until my flight home, thus eliminating the need for a double-entry visa.

However, if Myanmar doesn't work out, I will just organise an express tourist visa for my second entry (in late December) whilst I'm in Vietnam. While I have you, do you know if there's normally a wait to organise a Thai tourist visa from vietnam? Or is it like with other visas how you can pay double or something and get it in one day?

Thanks Leesu!!

With Phnom Penh, what was your experience like?

edit: by the way I have found this site which has recent reports of getting Thai visas in varying countries: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/...in-the-region/

Yeah I mean I'm heading through Cambodia as a part of my SEA trip, but may organise a tourist visa in PP if I don't fly to Myanmar as I'll need one to get in Thai. with the beggars as depressing as it is at least you know they've really suffered heartache unlike some of the other beggars you find in the world that just do it for an easy living.

No return or ongoing flight -- report from the front lines.

My traval agent wasn't aware of the newly enforced requirement, and I wasn't either at the time, so the flight ended in BKK.

The Cathay Pacific agent refused to allow me to board for the payed for flight. He claimed that the airline would be fined and an agent who allowed someone to board without an ongoing or return flight could be suspended for a month. May have been a story or true, I don't know. His "solution" was for me to pay for a flight to Hong Kong for $644, then I would be allowed to fly to BKK. I paid for the ticket, fully refundable if I cancelled he and the lady who booked the flight with my credit card confirmed it. I called the number to CP to cancel the flight the day I arrived, then notified my bank with a disputed claim.

Since some people on the thread have had no problems in the same situation, my guess is that it depends on the airline. I can confirm that CP will not allow a passenger to board in the above scenario. I tried to book a flight to Cambodia on day 28, but Thai Airways required a Thai cell/mobile number to book the flight. By then I didn't have the time to find the format of cell phone numbers so I couldn't put in a fake one.

Now I'm in Chiang Mai for a few days and heading on to Chiang Rai soon. Frankly I'm disgusted with the whole red tape routine, so I'll be looking at other SE Asia countries to move to on a more permanent basis. I plan to do a visa run to Phnom Pen to check out the city and expat community and maybe move there. Pay a fee for a tourist or business visa and stay for one year, no visa runs, no crap. I've heard more bad than good about Cambodia so I don't know if that'll be my choice. I'm open to suggestions and also have some research to do.

In LOS (Land of Scams) my plan was to get TEFL certified for a work permit and a "cover" for staying in the country and opening a bank account while making my real money online.

Not sure about the internet quality, and don't know how Laos or Vietnam would be. Any links would be appreciated.

BTW, I tried to write the report in Hong Kong during the layover, but twoplustwo.com was blocked.

I'm not a happy camper here in Thailand, especially after scammers at the CM airport tried to f**k me over.

Any other reports or suggestions?

Just to add to Lessu´s very good answer, if you have a tourist visa, you are not required to show a ticket out of Thailand. But according to the rules, you can´t get that tourist visa, without having said ticket out. So it depends on how strongly that is enforced at whatever embassy/consulate you apply at.

I have previously been told, that you are NOT required to use a visa, when you enter, it´s merely an option. So it should be possible to save it for a later entry.

Here's a really useful link on how to make international calls with Thai phone companies and how much it costs for each country.

The Bangkok police were being a pain in the arse in Patts last week and closing places down early some nights. I have no idea if this is continuing now.

Same in Samui. The police were closing it all down at 2am. Or that might have been the week before. I've slept and been drunk several times since then, so I'm prone to memory loss.

You make it sound so easy.

I've gone to several banks and they all say they cannot give this information, they ask me if I have a work permit, what my job is, etc, etc. I usually just say 'I'm a student, I need to show my address, so someone can send me something.' They just keep repeating that they can't give me this paper.

Fwiw, I live here and have for years, have Thai wife, etc. Doesn't make sense...

I would be a bit worried, because there are only pictures from the (empty) kitchen / livingroom. Means also that it's kinda impossible to make a rough estimate for this place.

I just got back from Cambodia, Phnom Penh was kind meh, but Siam Reap was beautiful and I could easily see myself living there. I plan to return there pretty soon just because it was such a nice place to be. The exception is that the tuk tuk drivers and other street vendors are way more aggressive/persistent than Thailand, but everything else was awesome. Siam Reap FTW.

Gentlemen,

I see there's a lot of regs in Bangkok. If any of you who have posted in this thread a lot (won't be responding to randoms) are interested in earning a couple k baht to do a bit of a tour, pm me or post your email and I'll get in contact.

I have spent quite a bit of time on stickmanbangkok so I know how things go but this seems this is a crazy city so I figure a bit of a tour would be worthwhile. I'll be there early Oct, going to stay somewhere in the main expat area on sukhumv. I am a 25yr old Aussie FYI

If anyone is keen let us know

Cheers
