Ya, your right! I thought they were only joint programs where you do part your degree at Chula and the other at a partnering school. But it looks like they have a pretty decent selection of full programs.

you can also get a bus, or a train. buses leave pretty regularly and u can buy tickets from a ton of places. takes 10-12 hours. i dont know how much it will cost but no more than like $20-$30 for sure. they can be slightly dodgy, ive heard tons of stuff about people going through your hold luggage but they wont steal clothes, they are just looking for electronics so make sure you keep them safe.

there is also a sleeper train option (maybe with bus included, idk if its a direct train of if you have to change at surat thani), but that will probably be about 1k baht which is like $35 and you get a bed for the night despite a relatively bumpy ride. though it is much much safer for sure. it will leave late in the evening and arrive at either surat thani or phuket in the morning at about 8am or so.

so it just depends on your budget and how quickly you want to get there. if you want to stop off on the way then get a train or bus to chumphon or surat thani and go to koh Tao for diving, Koh phangan for the full moon party (august 14th), or koh samui (dont know what specifically is there but its meant to be nice).
Sweet thanks man! It's Alex Birch btw, we'll have to meet up when i'm there if we are close!

Going to Chiang Mai for a week or so. What are some good hotels w/ solid internet & location. I've been told Furama is good but my friend said the internet was very unstable there.

they found out what the problem was about that hotel and it was some chemical to treat bed bugs, not that i would feel safe to go there when they dont close after 7 deaths or something like that

they had a special investigation on it on NZ TV ( 60 minutes i think) where they went back and got swabs from the air conditioners.

they'd mixed the chemicals wrong when they sprayed the rooms for bugs (from a third party company)

It might be on youtube.

Moving to Phuket this month from the US. I have a 3G iphone. I've been doing a little research regarding international calling and texting over the last few hours or so. I run a small business here in NYC and need to be able to send a f*ckload of text messages to US residents (probably like a 100 a month). I'll also need to call them from time to time. Was wondering if anyone had used VOIP, Google Voice, skype, or anything else for sending and receiving text messages. From what I've read about Skype you can't receive text messages. VOIP on vondage doesn't seem to have text messaging. Google voice seemed really promising since it does everything from phone calls to sending/recieving text messages. However I'm not sure it's available yet internationally. I found this article http://www.zdnet.com/blog/networking...rnational/1319 and got exited it might be up and running this week. I would optimally like to port my US number to google voice or whatever other VOIP iphone app option there is, sit around the pool at my new place in thailand, have my phone hooked up to the wifi we will have at the house, chill and have my phone ring/text just like it would in the states and not pay an arm and a leg.

i use www.voipdiscount.com program. you can send sms from it online (from your computer or you can install their program to your iphone too) and the receiver will see your number as your have to verify it with them. obv if they send sms to you, you will receive for free

calls to landlines are free with this program and even calling to thai cellphones the calls are free (or 0.01c/min). my parents use it to call me all the time

not affiliated with that site in any way. just found their services to fit for what i need

If you are going to use that one check this list instead. They are all skins of the same company and some are significantly scheaper than others. Ive gone from smsdiscount to powervoip to easyvoip, the last one being the best for me at the moment.

They change the rates all the time so good to check the list when your credit is about to run out. Also these companies are all moderately shady so I would deposit more than the minimum (usually 10 EUR/USD). Although I've been fine with all three mentioned I've heard some worse reports.

i just found voipdiscount from another forum and since free is a pretty good price i haven't seen a reason to change. and i haven't been double charged or anything at least not yet

what would you expect to pay for rent in phuket for a 1br house to a 3br house? What about for the a 1br to 3br apartment? I'm thinking of the Kata area also unless someone has some advice otherwise.

I think Kamala, where I live, is a bit more expensive than the southern end of Phuket, but here most "standard" 2 br thai-houses costs 15k-18k. The more luxurious you want the house, the higher the price obv.

Saw a couple of high-end houses that went for like 80k/month.

Having a pool generally adds like 5k-7k to the rent, in my experience (+higher electricity and maintenance if its a private pool).

So it all comes down to excatly what you need.

did you get it from bupa.co.th or purchased it at one of the offices then? i looked on bupa.co.uk and in the T&C it says it is cancelled if you cease to live in the UK.

their travel insurance also is only valid for 31day travels.

Nearly every Health insurance you get from your home country won't be valid, since they are only for residents of that country. You have to look around a bit more online to find Insurance that isn't based on being a resident of a specific country, and it's more expensive. I'm paying 1K a year and mine isn't valid in the States.
