Yo,

Two of us are flying into Bangkok on the 23rd, never been to Thailand before. We have 5 mates already out there who said they will probably be in Phuket by that time. We are lookin at spending maybe 1-2 nights in Bangkok then setting off to meet up with them.

Can anybody suggest the best way to get from Bangkok to Phuket, and the best things to do in Bangkok over 1-2 nights there? We are staying at a place called the Green House which is on Khao San Road.

Thanks!

Seriously, it takes two seconds to check a few sites for flight prices, which will vary based on date/time of travel. No one here is a travel agent.

Make sure to book your flight on AIR AISA (.com) and your flight should be around $50...using standard flight searches will bring up every other airlines but airasia and you will pay 3 times as much, around $150.

You won't do much better than moving in with them. Bunch of cool guys, good players, and they know the entire poker crew in Phuket. If you move anywhere from Rawai to Karon (look at a map) you will be close to poker players. No where is really that far away in Phuket though.

Seriously, do you not think I've also googled it? ******** like you clutter good threads up.

Obviously I'm gonna search but I'd also like some information from people who are already in Thailand and have personal experience, like the guy below me. I'd never have found that through searching google.

Hi guys,

Looking to get in touch with anyone able to help relocate to a poker house in Thailand or SE Asia in general.

Please shoot me a pm. Thanks.

Not for me it's not.

It's not the point anyway. Perhaps you can get flights on the day for a lot cheaper, or there is a train that's fast and cheap, or there are cool places to stay off on the way.. loads of reasons I want to ask personally rather than just google and get sponsored links.

My mate went to Macau in March, if I was going there should I not ask him for advice because that would be lazy when google is so much easier?

for clarity, nowhere from rawai to karon is that far away in phuket (you could include Patong) but there are places on the north end of the island that pretty much make it so you aren't living near 2+2ers

like rutang said anything north of kathu or patong is starting to be fairly far away (30mins+ with bike) imo

The lack of resourcefulness of people travelling half the way around the world never ceases to amaze me

I am one of them and i am trying to organise our honeymoon in Thailan around at the end of october. I found plane ticket Barcelona to Bangkok for 700 euros each and flight takes like 17 hours, i think it is good but i am not that sure

We have only 10 days free so it will be a relatively short trip for a long flight. Besides all that i have no idea where to start..

Start the same way I start every trip, I go online to see what's possible. Look at some travel agents see what itineraries they offer, look at backpacker itineraries too to see what's possible in xxx time scale, tailor it to your interests and take it from there. At that point start to ask questions...........

Its the guys that come on here like little lost lambs with no clue that tend to get on my tits, when with 15 mins effort they could answer half the questions themselves. I try to be helpful most of the time, but these days I just cba with the little lambs.

No idea about transferring credits.

The university will help you with this. You'll probably need to leave Thailand and re-enter on your student visa but then you'll just need to report to immigration once ever 90 days and extend it, without having to leave again so long as you are a student.

Depending on the type of visa you are in Thailand on, it may be possible to just change the visa type w/out leaving.

Student visa is by far the best long term option. If you don't go the Uni route, you can get one from a language school and it works exactly the same way.

Aside from that back-to-back-to-back-to-back 60-day tourist visas are what pretty much everybody does. You have to leave the country to get a new one and can extend it for 30 days in country, so its essentially a 90-day visa.

I assume you are talking about completing your undergrad degree, which you will need to be fluent in thai for. International programs are for Masters and PHD's and those are the only ones I know of that are taught in English.
thank you guys, good info. ouch @ the being fluent in thai part for UG degrees. maybe i can find some english programs

He's wrong there are English language undergrad programs.

I know ABAC has some and IIRC tons of programs at Chula are taught in English. The purpose is to make sure the Thai students are fluent in English moreso than to accommodate foreigners, but its a nice side benefit should you want to enroll.

you can fly with air asia being the cheapest. it wont take long ldo but if you are checking in luggage etc it will probably end up costing like $75-$100 at short notice with transfers at both ends.

you can also get a bus, or a train. buses leave pretty regularly and u can buy tickets from a ton of places. takes 10-12 hours. i dont know how much it will cost but no more than like $20-$30 for sure. they can be slightly dodgy, ive heard tons of stuff about people going through your hold luggage but they wont steal clothes, they are just looking for electronics so make sure you keep them safe.

there is also a sleeper train option (maybe with bus included, idk if its a direct train of if you have to change at surat thani), but that will probably be about 1k baht which is like $35 and you get a bed for the night despite a relatively bumpy ride. though it is much much safer for sure. it will leave late in the evening and arrive at either surat thani or phuket in the morning at about 8am or so.

so it just depends on your budget and how quickly you want to get there. if you want to stop off on the way then get a train or bus to chumphon or surat thani and go to koh Tao for diving, Koh phangan for the full moon party (august 14th), or koh samui (dont know what specifically is there but its meant to be nice).
