Get a VPN, there are some free ones. I have used cyber ghost before and that is fine.

Is this something that masks your IP so places like neteller can't pick up on it? Is it really that simple? And if so why arent all the American pro's using it instead of moving country? Or is that more to do with them not being able to get any money off the site...or already having their account locked due to it being set up with a USA ip? Sorry for all the questions I'm just about as non-technical as they come, if it's not facebook, youtube, pokerstars or pornhub I'm kinda screwed :/

Yep so you can get one that shows as if your accessing the net from the UK or wherever.

You also have to show proof of address that your outside the US to circumvent the recent stuff. I have no doubt that some have found a way around it, I doubt they are going to advertise that fact though.

I was under the impression that I could just play as normal, withdraw to my debit card or neteller...use an ATM to withdraw in Thailand if I was running low on cash etc but I see no end of posts talking about proxies, VPN's and all other kind of technical stuff that I don't really understand....can someone break don exactly what I need to do because I really want to get it all sorted before I fly out. Many thanks

You can use the mastercard in the ATM´s, but the fees are pretty steep.

Using MB and getting a bank account is much cheaper.
Quoting myself.

I'm assuming this is more aimed at US residents then myself? A copy of my passport or a uk bank account will suffice for me I assume?

Yes, this comment was totally aimed at the guys moving out of the US to play after black friday, they have to 'prove' they are not in the US by giving some form of evidence of an address from outside the US. You don't need to worry about it.

Where do you guys get your health insurance policies? How much?

My plan is to go over there for Paramotor training. (looks like it's gonna be Pattaya or Phuket) I have Medjet Assist - which will fly me back home if I get hurt, but it would be nice to get a local policy since they are probably not too expensive. I just need something for 2-3 months.

I emailed my trainer in phuket about which policy to get and he said get one from back home, because...and i quote "the policies in thailand are only any good if you need your body flying back home after you've died" :|

Anyone else have input on the health insurance thing? I currently am insuranceless in the States, and plan to be in Thailand for at least a year. I thought the Healthcare system there was at least decent-- that is, good enough to handle anything common like a serious flu or a broken limb or w/e. How much would I be looking to spend on a decent policy?

I'm just using my Dutch health insurance. They cover as much as the same procedure would cost back home, so that's pretty much anything out here. Not sure if Holland is the only country that does this.

I guess this is not the case with supplements?
I order a lot of quality stuff from the states and get it shipped here, shipping is a bitch if you don't do it right. Order stuff, get it forwarded with the "all you can fit" box deal with UPS and save a lot. Ship in small boxes, state valueless/small value on items. Supplements here in the stores are generally of bad selection mediocre quality and outrageously expensive.

iherb.com for supplements here. (KOH299 for $5 discount P and they do international shipping that passes through customs without getting caught/going through huge fees. Don't use DHL or UPS (near 100% of the time have to pay customs on them, 30% or so, more for DHL ime). You can order these <$90 orders with $0-$4 shipping that slip right by customs, but its slow.

for health insurance, I got mine at ehealthinsurance.com and 7corners service seemed to be a good deal, was about $250/year, $250 deductible, and I think within the first month its going to be saving me a $3k expense or so . Was very easy to get online, but I am american not sure if it is worldwide.

My moneybookers account I made here as a US citizen is fully functional except I can't deposit on sites. Anything else is fine. Of course, cashing out from sites ->thai bank is no problem. Depositing you have to use kbank cyber shopping card and entrop4y

these are my experiences with the things you guys were just talking abouty anyways hope that helps.

Wow 200,000 thb would be abit of a bankroll killer! I've been told that health insurance is pretty poor in Thailand so I definitely need to sort it in England, it's just a case of finding some that specially covers MMA so I don't get screwed if the time ever comes to claim.

I totally get what you're saying, the one thing I won't have over in Thailand is many friends, where as in England I have quite a few from lots of different groups and other than training this is where I spend most of my time when I should perhaps be playing more poker. I've spent 28 years in this town and I'm getting to the stage in life where I want to experience new cultures and places now, this will hopefully push me to work hard and not let myself be distracted all the time. I have 6 months living expenses separate to my bankroll and hopefully the plan is that once my year is up in Thailand I can move on somewhere else and train/play poker for atleast the next few years (fingers crossed no further disasters happen in online poker)

I know all this is easier said then done...and I am abit of a sucker for women but I'm atleast going there with the best intentions lol
Yeah I train at Superpro. Definitely get a travel insurance policy in UK before you get here, I wouldn't trust a Thai company to pay for anything. My policy with an Australian company is around 25k THB/year and covers everything - luggage loss, plane delays, stolen property, medical etc. I wouldn't bother with a policy that covers MMA - just tell them you got in a fight if you need to claim.

Insurance is -ev, but you are not taking it for the minor stuff that happen all the time and that you can afford but for the big stuff that might get you lifebusto if you had to pay it yourself. One important detail is that if you have an insurance and get a really bad condition they ll have to pay for it all your life, if you dont have an insurance and get that problem, it become a preexisting condition that your insurance wont cover.

Saying insurances are useless is like saying that strict bankroll management is bull**** in poker and that playing with a 10 buy ins bankroll is more than enought.

Probably just trolling, since the whole insurance -ev has be talked to death.

Need to insurance experiences. I will probably pick up a policy from ehealthinsurance but I am concerned about whether it covers things that happen outside of USA.

its only -e v if you save your premiums so its there when you need it...then your just banking on that it happens once you have enough to cover the incident. most cant do this, so then its just stupid not having insurance....

IMO.

A friend came down with a nasty flu/throat infection and after 5 days in hospital was presented with a bill for 200,000 baht. That's a lot cheaper than it would be in the US but I sure as hell wouldn't want to pay it.
I hate the principal of the NHS (free healthcare for any british resident whilst in UK) but its stories like that which make me very glad that I come from UK.

btw, im trying to gtfo out of bangkok asap and up to chiang mai - i heard theres a buddhist festival this weekend which means that all the trains are full for next few days - is this true or are people just trying to sell me buses etc because they get more commission?

It's mostly -ev because people under the age of 50 rarely go to hospital. 95% of your medical expenses are incurred in the last 5 years of your life.

BTW you can still go to public hospitals in Thailand, and treatment/bed there is ridiculously cheap. A lot of people I know who live in Thailand choose to have their surgery done at a private hospital but then choose to recover in a public hospital so they don't have to pay 18,000 baht per night for a hospital bed.

In any case if you are getting insurance you need to read the fine print very carefully. Most will not cover you for any motorbike accidents or any accident that occurs while drunk, which pretty much makes them useless iyam.

yeah i tried finding out more about the trains/ bus services to cm online and a load of stuff come up about how there are a ton of scams around.

i might take a trip to the train station and see what they can tell me about trips over the weekend. if all else fails, i can take a trip to the bus station and see what they can do. taxi's around are really cheap so its not a huge inconvenience.
