Engrish teachers make about that much and they're generally broke, I'd say 2K and you're golden

I am looking to rent a house in Phuket in August for a 6 month stay. 3-4 bedroom w/ pool & hottub if possible. I am also looking into a maid and cook if they are pretty cheap. What should my price range be and what are the best agency to go with?

Seriously, look through the thread? This has been asked and answered many times.
And what is it with people who want their own cook? Go to a restaurent.

How much you need depends a lot on how often you want to go drinking
and bring home girls.
$2k should be sufficient for most.

1K is definitly enought to live in thailand, but if you want any long term plan here and not some holydays untill you go broke you need to aim for 2K for sure

I ve an asus netbook , my charger cable is soon dead, i ve found a replacement one from a small store in pantip plazza near bang kapi mall , and so far the first one lasted 2 hours, and the 2nd one they gave me to replace the first one lasted 20 min , i can still use the original one but i ve to bend the cable in some special position for it to work so i expect that i ll soon cant be able to use it.
I compared my original one with the new one they gave me it seems to be the same specs but the one they give me seems to have some problem and after a minor usage they overheat or something like that i hear a clac smell something burnt and cant use it anymore, it s under guarantee but i expect them to get bored at some point and stop changing them for me, so does anyone know why my orginal one doesnt have that problem, first one they gave me that could have been bad luck but now 2 in a row in a really short time i d rather look for an answer before i go back to the shop since i dont trust them that much to give me a proper answer

If you still have warranty go to the Asus Service Center. My A/C adapter blew up when I was in BKK, so I went to the service center expecting to have to buy a new one. Instead the guy scanned the bar code sticker on the back of my laptop, and 5 min later I walked out with a free new power brick.

my warranty is over since 2 weeks, at least the replacement was pretty cheap and with a 6 months warranty but 3 trips in 3 days It s starting to add up in time wasted and taxi fare

Notice a lot more interest in this thread after the doj actions. I am going to be there tomorrow. Flying into Bkk. I have been in thailand 4-5 times so i semi know my way around. How easy to you think it would be to get set up over there? From my understanding a thai bank account is quite a stretch. I have a girl I know there (not hooker, crazy huh) and I could likely use her utility bills to get online earlier.

Flying into thailand, how long would you think if it was my only focus it would take me to get back to playing online?

And also to the guy who said 200 a month to live in chiang mai? I beg to differ. I payed 250 a night for a hotel, lol, so of course my perspective is different. But I think that more like 700-1k would be "balling out of control". Of course I live in a hotel in the us, so i am not really smart with money, lol.

About the maid/cook part, what we have gathered it is REALLY hard to find a maid that is thrustable enough to come and clean/cook etc on a daily basis, being in the house when no one is home etc.

Getting a thai bank account is redic easy Especially if you have a thai speaking girl with you to the bank.

We thought, 5 poker players in a house might make the house pretty dirty pretty fast :P And I doubt anyone would do real cleaning like cleaning floors and stuff.

About cook, personally I dont need it, I prefer to cook my own food or eating out, but other guys thought it would be nice to having meals when grinding etc. And yes, we live in kata.

What were doing now is we have a girl that our house owner has used for long time and they really thrust here, she comes over every sunday and do thoroughly cleaning for like 7 hours.

lol yeh pretty sure he was joking. kap arai would spend $500 a night sleeping in karaoke clubs covered in girls and whisky

Also $700-$1k a month definalty isn't 'ballin' by any stretch of the imagination, even in Chiang Mai. You'd get by but you wouldnt be able to eat in western places regularly or go out too often

yea having a maid is good sure. i was referring more to the "stay in the house while it is empty" part

and i am not sure how i would feel having some semirandom thai in my house while I grind especially since i assume your grind station is in some common room

takes some time to have that kind of trust imo

so I am planning on staying in thailand for at least 1 yr. I already have a visa and am living in chiang mai. because of the recent events I am considering opening up a thai bank for cashing out poker funds. I think this can be done without too much trouble. My concern is this, after one year maybe i have amassed a fairly large balance in my thai bank lets say $100k US. Does anyone have experience trying to take this money out of thailand? Will the banks allow me to transfer that amount of money to a US bank. Are they gonna rape me on fees?

I wouldnt keep that much in a thai bank account, you never know what can happen here, while it s handy to have a thai bank account for day to day life , i wouldnt keep anything more than i need for a few months.

Going to be in BKK for about 10 days or so in a few weeks.

Best hostel to stay at? would like something clean and quiet but close to everything....

Best clubs to meet some local working girls? Price range? I've heard some places have membership dues and such? anything with good, clean girls would be great. tahnks

you never know what the government can decide here, a basic rule when you get to thailand is to be ready to lose everything you have here and have to go back to your country

yea i guess amassing that much would be stupid. sending it to my USbank in smaller chunks as it came in would be better. Just not sure if thats legal. What are Americans living in thailand doing about the current legal situation? I mean I can access sites just not sure how to get my money.
