Just to answer the taxi question: only in Phuket and maybe other really touristy southern towns like Krabi (not sure) are taxi's mob run and expensive. Everywhere else they are crazy cheap, bkk and CM inc.

1) in phuket somewhere near/around kata has been proven the nuts

2) yes chiang mai is cheaper including taxis/tuktuks

3) 99% have motorbikes. all who stay longterm usually own at least one and short term ppl rent. i havent used a tuktuk for 18 months i think. we have a "2+2 driver" who ppl use for nights out and airport runs. he is also part of the group so not just a driver

4) sometimes there are situations where the language barrier is too high but generally you can get by with english only. youll pick up thai obv as you stay which makes your life even easier

5) both fairly equally at least for me

6) you can go around yourself or with an agent. you should have someone who knows the place with you though so you wont get screwed. all of the agents i have dealt with have always spoken good english. you can check www.houseinphuket.com for example. and yeah, never book anything without seeing it yourself. cant really help with hotels

get vaccinated. if you are not vaccinated for hep a+b for example you have to start taking the shots a month before your trip. check(go to a doctor) that you have everything else covered too

Can anybody vouch that they've done transfers with nhourmess before? Thinking about swapping an amount that would be effectively my roll so just being a bit extra cautious here.

You can eat out all the time in Thailand, there are food places everywhere. Cafes, Restaurants, Street Vendors/BBQ etc.

Price range varies, On average most of my everyday meals were about 50 - 100 baht usually thai stuff like curries, chicken/rice, BBQ.

Beer is cheap everywhere.

The only thing i made were sandwiches.

Youll find local vendors you like and youll usually end up giving them repeat business which theyre really appreciative of.

We might want to stop referencing bank names and swft codes in these threads. Probably nothing to worry about, but always better to just say green bank or T*Y*P*E L*I*K*E this.

Don't remember seeing any there, Its a place for Thai gamblers and Thai's and generally don't play poker. It is 18 months since I was there so it could have changed but I doubt it. Poipet itself is a ****hole, I wouldn't hang around unless you have to.

ftp didnt want to do transaction with my thai account, pokerstars seems ok
only current problem is knowing when stars will allow you to change your nationality, i dont know why it s such a big deal for american when it was pretty easy for france and i cant see a major difference in the process.

Just had a few questions for you guys, sorry if theyve been asked before...

1) Where is the most convenient place to live as far as being an online grinder who still enjoys going out a decent bit, having a gym, eating out etc.

.
1. If you are going to go out a good amount you should probably just live in Patong since you then dont have to drive drunk or waste money on taxis every day. There is also decent gyms there. Kata has some night life, but all the places are pretty much **** and they get worse during low season. Also, there is no decent gyms in Kata. Living in Rawai would be very unconvenient if you enjoys going out(at least 18 km to Patong), and most girls dont want to travel that fare.

Use moneybookers when it is available again so the money cannot be traced so easily back to FTP.

Have any Americans living in Thailand been able to resume playing at Stars yet? If so, what information did they require verifying your location?

Hi,

Does anyone know what's the best way to cashout from pokerstars to Thailand?

I just tried entropay, which FAIL completely. Because they only allow you to cashout the amount you originally deposited. Which means that if you deposit 10$ to stars and you make 1000$, you still can withdraw only $10 nonetheless, ENTROPAY TOTALLY SUCKS.

Anyway, is wire transfer from pokerstars to Thai bank possible?

If you have experience before, please let me know. Thanks!

I don't think it is.

For that matter, I don't think you can even deposit in the first place from Thailand.

I'd love to be proven wrong on that, and if anybody has successfully deposited money onto stars or tilt from a Thai bank (with funds originating from a Thai bank I mean, doesn't need to be directly from the Thai bank.) then please let us know, and please, prove me wrong.

All I know is, when I tried to deposit on Stars from Thailand, I tried multiple methods and none of them worked.

It's unfortunate, because Thailand is a great place to live, travel, visit, whatever...it's just a great place period! Unfortunately though, they look down on gambling (the government and the king I mean, not the people, plenty of degenerate gamblers among the general Thai populace )

That's why I will probably end up choosing to go back to the Philippines or possibly Cambodia, instead of Thailand.

I'd love to go back to Thailand, and live there again, but it just seems to hard to play online poker there. Sigh!
