there is 3G in places like koh tao and koh phangan? even in phuket 3G is only on the west coast in small areas from what i have heard/read

in phuket i had bad results with 12call, while my friend said that true was "ok" in kata and patong

I got mine by going into the True Move shop, i doubt you can get it in 7/11. I got a monthly call/text/unlimted 3g plan for 599baht a month. All you need is your passport.

I think you can get it prepaid also, not sure on the prices though.

Which company is Happy? Was it 3G or Edge? If it's 3G then it should be way better than 600ms

jaya guesthouse right near the full moon beach next to the lake. the wifi from the restaurant downstairs was reachable from spots in the second floor room or on the balcony.

I ll leave phuket at the end of the month so my landlord should have at least one room available. It s not baller lifestyle, but if you want something very clean secure and cheap with all the usual services : cable tv, high speed wifi(very decent for a shared dsl in phuket, tho to play poker you better get a cdma card to be safe), key card, cctv , air con, hot water.
one small room like mine is 5K + electricity/water : my last bill was 600 considering i barely used air conditioning but i have a fan 24/7

that room is perfect for single grinder, i moved in with my gf that didnt mention she would bring ton and ton of cloths so it felt a bit messy with both our stuff, but for a single person it s really conveniant.

If you are 2 or want something bigger for whatever reason they have some room significantly bigger with a bigger fridgge for 6K

It s owned by 2 very nice old thais, they barely speak english but are very nice and helpfull something not that comon in phuket, so i d be happy to bring them some customers.

You have a gym a 7-11(obv) and tons of small thai restaurant at walking distance, you need a motorbike for everything else(you need one in phuket anyway)
I didnt pick the room my gf did, i didnt have all the info including that she would get me a cat for new year or i would have picked the bigger one obv.

hmm 5k seems a bit much for that place don't you think? I'm sure you can get it for 3800 too.

Maybe you can lower the price if you stay a long time , but it s full all the time, the vacancy sign stay 2 or 3 days most of time so i doubt they care much .
In 6 month in phuket the only places i saw for less were unfurnished and definitly not as clean and secure.
I've a friend renting in a bargirl building he is paying 3kish for something unfurnished(he had a bed and had to move out of his old place in a few days so he couldnt really chose) and that feel like a furnace most of time, one night a bargirl he was banging smashed his motorbike in front of his landlord window, the next morning his landlord and his wife were watching him when he tried to start his motorbike, they smiled showing him his flat tires and explained to him that it was the bargirl that did that.
So i was happy to pay 5k in a nice and safe building, anyway i doubt I ll come back to phuket so I dont really care to find something else at that point.

Yet another visa run question:

I have the two month tourist visa double entry which ends at the end of the month, to get a full two months of the second entry you need to fly in and out right? I have till april 25th I think on the expiration date on visa. I'm assuming that's to get the second entry and not just no more visa then.

probably be in bkk soonish(in kanchanaberi right now), I haven't been outside thailand yet. any recommendations on cool places? I wouldn't mind spending some time outside thailand especially if it's cheap and I can grind a little.

If you have a visa, whether you enter Thailand via plane or a landborder doesnt matter.

April 25th, is that the "must use before" date? Or the expiration date of your current entry?
If the former, then you must leave and reenter Thailand before that date to use it, otherwise it´s void.

So far I´ve been using CAT CDMA, as I live in a house without landline and was told that was my only option.

Now somebody tell me that I should be able to get 3BB (contrary to what 3BB have told me themselves previously).

From what i read if you want to do it for money you d be better in some other asian county like korea , if you do it because you like thailand you should be fine.

So im trying to get money out with moneybookers mastercard. I already realize ATMs give very bad rate so Im gonna try go to some bank today and do exchange there instead, have to give better rates then ATMs right?

I don't think you can make withdrawals at the counter of any thai banks with mastercard.
